It's time for a corker of an episode! As travel on the suburban network of the city that likes to say it's the real capital of Ireland! But those trains, they look a but like sprinters! Or Pacers!! Don't they?
Vicki and Geoff are travelling to 198 railway stations in Ireland and Northern Ireland!
All The Stations - Ireland sees the duo exploring the length and breadth of the Iarnród Éireann and Northern Ireland Railways networks. Along the way, they'll meet the communities connected to the lines, interview local people and those who work on the railways, to find out about their experiences of travelling by train.
To The Book! "The Railway Adventures" is published by September Publishing and was released in October 2018. It accompanies the 2017 'All The Stations' adventure, when we travelled to all 2,563 railway stations in Great Britain. Available here: www.amzn.com/1910463876
You can see a progress map and station count on the website: www.allthestations.co.uk/

Including the only one who ever extensively photographed her inside. An Irish monk who had spent some time in England in early 1912 and rode home on the Titanic. He quite liked it aboard and wouldn't have minded to go on to New York, but couldn't persuade his superiors to allow him the vacation in America.

The trifecta, three videos from Geoff in one day! The April Fool's vids on Londonist and his own channel plus this latest installment of ATS. Thanks for doing these, I've been fascinated with railways in general and use them whenever I'm traveling. It allows you to see aspects of the area that you don't notice when going by car. This series is a highlight of my day. Thanks from Seattle!

There is a 'pacer' of sorts in Ireland. I think it was one of the prototypes. Is owned by NIR (Translink) but based at the preserved railway in downpatrick. Unfortunately downpatrick is not on the main rail network.

It's going to get boring if we all keep saying; 'Great episode guys.' What Is worth saying is; just how beautiful such a lot of Ireland is and how proud they are of their stations. Another 'incidentally' for you; the tender that would have taken the passengers out to Titanic from Cobh (then called Queenstown) were the PS Ireland and the PS America. Just one passenger got off the Titanic at Cobh and that was Priest and notable photographer, Fr Frank Browne.

@@erik_griswold in Belfast, you have the remains of the slipways where the Titanic and sister ship the Britannic-i think-were fitted out. As well as the aforesaid Museum, the SS Nomadic (the tender) is located a short distance away. However the Titanic Quarter rail station is a short walking distance away. Passenger liners like the Titanic rarely took on passengers in Belfast and usually any long distance liners usually left from Liverpool or Glasgow.

Well done on your railway adventure through Ireland, it's great fun to follow. Athlone is probably unique as a provincial town in that it had two railway stations operated by two competing companies.
@richiehoyt8487
@richiehoyt8487 3 года назад
Actually, I always wondered about that (well, in the back of my mind...) Why there was so much disused apparent platform in Athlone; I suppose I assumed the town's central geographical position and possibly it's proximity to the canal network and the Shannon gave it an importance not suggested by its size... Now I know.
