The issue is TRAINING. I watch many other homestead goat farms with LGD. They are a livestock GUARDIAN dog not a HERD dog like a Collie for sheep or cattle. The ALPHA should be KYLE . Hercules SHOULD NOT be allowed to RUN things! An LGD is meant to GUARD the goats from PREDATORS. Bad behavior is an LGD allowed to chase a goat at ALL! An LGD chasing down a goat is reprimanded with LEAVE IT! They don't need to be chased or herded. They do need a dog capable of being able to run off Coyotes! That ain't likely with Hercules penned up that small enclosure either. He can bark all he wants .Coyotes aren't gonna run off until Kyle comes out with a .22 "long iron" I have relatives with farms as well. Dinnertable discussions impart much knowledge on these things. I'm over 70 yrs old As old land starts being turned more and more into suburban subdivisions encroaching wildlife habitats, Coyotes are coming into these communities snatching mini pet dogs let out in the back yard to poo and pee and even roaming kitty kitty.

I agree, but they are inexperienced and just figuring things out. Dogs are pack animals and K&S don't seem to grasp that concept yet. Hercules is spoiled, which is a shame, because he is of a breed that needs firmness and not coddling. Love and spoiling are two different things.

@@irenehaugen6143 I agree with both of you and have mentioned my concerns about their dogs' behaviors. In the most recent video (solid foundation) they mentioned that they can't brush Herc because he will bite. I left a comment which they did not care for, tried to explain my concerns in a reply to their reply, but hope they can see that they are the problem. My dogs were spoiled but they also knew who was in charge...me. I am not a hater, just trying to offer advice.

Enjoyed the video Kyle and Shanon. Herc and Bruno will take a little bit. I remember the dog out at Chad's first property and he got a dog and took it there and later on he brought Smokie. So he turned out to get mean to Smokie and it didn't end well for that dog. Nothing that Smokie did but the other dog wouldn't let her eat etc. That dog got mean.

What I learned in dog rescue was, Herc at 3 is a young adult in human terms, a year is like a 7-9 yr old, 2 yrs teenager. We rescued our big furrbaby at a yr old, she had been through some things, we took her to a trainer to learn how to do it ourselves. We had to do sooooo much repeat, start over many, many times, do it everyday, but 8 mos of training for several important behaviors has paid off for 12 years so far! The trainer told us HAS to be consistent or we will be completely starting at 0 every time! You can try walking them down the road together everyday just to bond some before other training. Hope Herc & Bruno become best friends & partners (in crime!). 🤗❤️🐾

Yes for sure, any training HAS to be consistent! Our furrbaby we took to a trainer to learn how to train ourselves, even though it was very frustrating to repeat & start over soooo many times, for many things A lot of patience, but 8 mos of training paid off for the last 12 years! ❤️🐾

My suggestion would be to keep some of that ash to put in part of the run, because they love to take baths in it. The ash kills mights on them and helps keep their skin healthy.

I know this must drive Shanon crazy, So here is the recipe to kill weeds especially in the long drive way, :) Fill a container with 1 gallon of white vinegar. Add one tablespoon of dish soap to the vinegar. Optional: Pour in 1 cup of salt.Apr 5, 2024

I would encourage you all to watch some of the videos of The Cog Hill Farm's chicken tractor video to get an idea about the most effective nesting box/egg retrieval system I've ever seen. I know it's not a chicken tractor, but just for the the nesting box and how easy it is for them to gather clean eggs. I'm super impressed and I think you will be too Shanon and Kyle.

Kyle, I have a 20x 16 foot house with a floor of wood but it is covered in heavy vinyl panels and the walls all the way to the ceiling which is 10 feet tall with a slant roof and there’s also a drain hole in the floor so I can pressure wash the inside of the chicken coop out and I have eight nesting boxes hanging on the walls and in front of each window. There is a 4 foot roosting pole in front of three windows and a crossed the chicken house is two roosting poles which it’s a 8 feet. a crossed and the run itself is the 20’ x 25’ and it also has a door on the outside run +2 doors on the building itself for easier cleaning but I also have 30 chickens😊😊❤❤❤😂😂

Have you thought of a french drain, splitting just above the coop and then to either side of the coop .You could dig that in no time if you still have use of the excavator. Was watching you petting Herc and it occurred to me that you can't really see the breadth and depth of his chest unless he's on his back, very impressive! ❤

Kyle put in a French drain around your water wall side when you put in the base rock. Use that 6” black corrugated pipe and bury it in the rock/gravel and guide where you want the water to flow.

Shanon you can plant plants in your straw nails, just make you a hole little compost and plant. Tomatoes, peppers, watermelon and strawberries do great.Shanon get a bucket of ash for each of your garden beds and mix it in. Call Matt to come hammer a few nails.

I think You all are doing a great job introducing Hercules and Bruno, the only thing I would've done differently is put them together when you first brought Bruno home. Most Dogs will not hurt small/young pups, that way Hercules would have seen Bruno as another animal to protect. Instead of a threat to his herd.

❤ now that they met, each take 1 dog, 6ft apart on leash, and WALK them at same time so they accept each other as part of Your Pack. They learn they have to behave as You are pack leader showing them. The walking actually makes them "fall in line". There is no reason to allow a bite. You show Herc he has to listen to you. Be strong, that's what it takes to be pack leader. ❤

As for Herc's and Bruno's introduction and interaction, not only is Bruno learning his boundaries and respect for Herc, but Herc can also see that you guys are protective over little Bruno, and that like you said, Kyle, you are the Alpha male on the farm, and Shannon is the Alpha female, you two are the Alpha Team, and Herc has to respect Bruno's presence, just as he respects Nala's. In time Herc might also find a friend in Bruno who he can play and rough house with and who has the energy to do so.

Kyle & Shannon, I think you do a marvelous job of training all the animals. Your multi generation goats get along, Herc & Nalla get along, both dogs and goats get along with the birds....Bruno will be in the mix as well as soon as the light bulb goes of in his head that Herc is King on Shady Acres.
