It's not about being more black..It's about being able to walk down the street without wondering if a cop is gonna role up on you if someone is gonna get offended because you're in a area some Karen feels you don't belong..It's about walking on the ground your ancestors were born on It's about finally feeling whole and completely at peace with self and the world around you.. This may not make since to anyone 😉 Other than myself. SORRY!!

American culture is very existential. Everything is translated in terms of what is practical. That’s one thing a lot of AAs will struggle with when on the continent. Africans are predominantly spiritual and it sometimes seem that they don’t mind being poorer… they do though. Just wanted to point that out.

,As an African that has lived in America for 27 years I just got this to say,400 years of separation is a killer emotionally,but a least you have put this curiosity to bed,how you move forward is entirely up to you good luck and thank you for taking the time to address these feelings
@kikikeel7695
@kikikeel7695 Год назад
@Amara Dumbuya, I don't think it should be that way. We shouldn't make ourselves mental prisoners. We should rather make our ancestors proud for what they went through. The European Americans there have more or less cut ties with their European relatives and made American their home. Most of us living today have no real experience of the hardships 200 to 400 years ago. It's good that Some Americans are embracing their continent of origin but we need to start moving forward in a positive manner and make our ancestors proud. We shouldn't lock ourselves in a period that is long gone and no longer exist.

I think she meant the spiritual climate was electric. In deed the Ghanaian & African Christian experience has taken a turn from the culture and put the people in a terrible dependence on "miracle & prosperity gospel" to the extent that few in the ministry become creative/innovative, and the pastors/bishops extorting the wealth & women. More churches than factories?

Black Americans don’t feel they belong anywhere, in America or in Ghana etc. it’s simply because they don’t wanna just accept the fact that Ghanaians are different from them culturally and we do things differently, also, we also went through colonialism and white supremacy. Just go to Ghana and leave your American expectations and enjoy the vibes. You will be going back to your America. Am just tired of all the unfair comparisons when we are just 65 years removed from British rule. Finally, just because you are black and from America doesn’t mean you won’t be seen differently. Even within Ghana we have differences and also on the continent. When a Nigerian comes to Ghana he or she feels differently. It’s normal so Ghanaians aren’t trying to make you black Americans feel unwelcome intentionally

You are entitled to your perspective but please don't presume to speak for Black Americans. We have several wonderful cultures that developed in the Americas with unique languages, foods, spiritual practices and even phenotypes that are African babsed but 500 years removed from the African continent. Gullah/Geechee culture, Dismal Swamp cult, Creole culture in New Orleans, Black Seminole and Cherokee Freedmen culture and even cowboy culture - yes that was ours first. I have traveled, studied and lived in various places throughout the African continent. I loved some places and absolutely detested others. Make no mistakes though that I know where I belong. As do most African Americans.

@@GeeBee212 I think we do speak for each other intentionally and not so sometimes. However, I would say if someone tells someone else to not speak for African Americans, then such person needs to swallow their own advice. That's our problem as Black people period. No matter the continents, a large portion tend to want to tear each other down instead of uplift over simple trivial things that don't matter. I believe if a person wants to travel to Africa and or most black Caribbean countries, then they need to and whatever reality or expectations they have, it will be up to them to make their analysis for themselves. They may grow and they may not. Its best to let an individual decide for themself.

Mjadala mkubwa (great discussion)! First, Black people in the United States should drop the term 'Black American' and pick an African (Bantu) name for the (collective) group, e.g., Maboma ('many villages' < Kiswahili). The "Black American" term does nothing to denote that the associated person is of African origin. In fact, the term "Black American" sounds like someone who is classified as an appendage culturally , ethnically and philosophically to the American, the name that the white colonizers, who founded the eventual United States, gave themselves. Second, develop an Africa linkage/engagement plan. Just thinking outside the box!

For one thing you are wrong, the white man did not give us that title… Secondly, most of us nowadays prefer the title ADOS or FBA as a way to identify us… Last but not least, nobody can tell us what they think we should do, that is up to us not anyone else…

I have a problem with the title of this video, if you are black how can you be more black? Also black is not a race its a color and it's a color that your oppressor allowed you to call your self. I have a question, why is it so hard for(black) people in America to identify with Africa?
@avianthony6149
@avianthony6149 2 года назад
Cause they dont want to identify themselves with poverty..Africa is poor and America is rich..im African American..im proud to be refer as such..it connects me to African roots and also my American roots..not all slave master oppresses their slaves..

"black is not a race its a color and it's a color that your oppressor allowed you to call your self." Nigeria is a geo-political state that the oppressor created. Nigerian is what the oppressor allowed them to call themselves. What's the difference?

You recent postings (and other YT vloggers living in Ghana) suggest that it's often very lonely living in Ghana, not for America necessarily but for your own people. It's very clear that the expat community there is very much fractured into cliques, from scammers hustling fellow BAs, to religious zealots forming cult-like communities, Ghana looks like a whole mess. And then layer in Ghana's intrinsic issues, it's a lot. It seems like you need a break from it all for awhile, you honestly don't seem very happy. And I think it may be even more lonely in the future as BA are moving away from Pan Africanism. Being on the continent you may not realize the conversations happening here. The romanticism w/ Africa is lifting, a lot of folks recognize America as our Motherland of our ethnicity. We are American, we are America, we are the promise, the hope expressed in our founding documents. There's an emerging or re-emerging sense of being proud to have built this country and claiming not asking or pleading our piece of it. BAs are turning away from the continent for all the reasons you've been sharing in videos over the past 5 months. We're already home.
