I also had many difficulties with my father, my whole life. He was a child during WWII and he suffered a lot. His father had died during the war when he (my father) was 4 years old. Growing up, he’d always say, “I don’t know how to be a father, because I didn’t have one.” Much of my narrative towards him is resentful, but I also work on changing the narrative. He would also drop everything to come and pick me up if I was in trouble. I’m sure he worried about me during the times we weren’t speaking. In his later years, he would make a big effort to get up and be ready to have Sunday breakfast, just with me, in a lovely restaurant. He knew I wanted to spend time with him, and he gave me as much time as he could. And he was an excellent listener. Thank you for this talk, dear Brother ❤ “It’s OK to cry” (speaking for myself)

"Nobody in your family will ever be perfect. So you have to pay attention to their diamonds." Thank you dear brother for opening up to us and teaching how to be vulnerable. That crying is very healing and we can rewrite our memories to change the narrative from different angles. We have the power to do that! Deep bow of gratitude 🙏 💜🌼

I appreciated this sharing and teaching. In watching this, I'm learning that I can nurture the memories that spring compassion and connection, and uproot or starve out the memories that inspire anger.. treat them as invasive weeds that cause nourishing plants to die. This means so much to me, thank you!

Oh how I wish I'd known about the Plum Village and your wonderful teachings 20 years ago. I miss my father, still keep in touch by phone, but haven't visited in years. I don't have as fond memories of my mother, but your assertion of everyone expresses love in different ways resonates with me. Perhaps in meditation the narrative can be rewritten and maybe a visit even take place. Thank you 🙏

Está bien llorar y es muy sanador pero no sé porque lo vemos como algo negativo o como un símbolo de debilidad. Gracias por esta charla.
