On that point on expectations it speaks a lot that for me personally I've been more worried about disappointing those around me than failing myself

So many of us can relate to that. If choosing what you want comes at their disappointment, then do it anyway! We can't impress everyone

Would you advice someone to switch degrees from accounting directly to CIMA with all other factors determined.

Yes, definitely. The Accounting background will also help you when you do CIMA
