The disappointment I’ve had from that announcement is just immense. They tried being to ambitious with something that didn’t need to be that ambitious to begin with. Just a 4v4 basic arena style game with new maps and last of us 2 style gameplay and just evolve it from there especially if they were going live service. Apparently rumors were it was gonna be a BR or extraction shooter when it didn’t need to be that.

Some people will never understand the vibes with factions back in 2013, I remember watching you, nick eh 30, and *xshoT -who still plays btw* all of you grinding and creating the best online community i have ever been apart of, this sucks truly but just know we will still stand by you KingSancho I also would watch a channel called MGM or something that had 2 dudes who took shifts playing factions, this game made me so competetive unlike any other game I played before.

Man this was actually heartbreaking, I was there watching you and nick eh 30's tips and tricks video, they made me so much better at factions. Factions was my go to escape when life wasn't going well in high school, this was by far the best multiplayer community and experience and I will forever be sad when I think about the missed opportunity of this game.

Its simplicity was its beauty. At the end of the day the game came down you playing smarter than the other team. Using teamwork and tactics to win. All I ever wanted was a simple, barebones refresh. Sad it was grown to a scale that ended up being unachievable.

There’s no reason to cancel the game If their vision of the game became too ambitious for them to feasibly work on that and they’re single player experiences at the same time, then dial back the ambition and release some thing that isn’t as huge. But to cancel it altogether is really a slap in the face to their huge Factions Fanbase.

What a let down. End of an era. Always followed you from the factions content back then and got a chance to meet you at PAX South. You for sure influenced my passion for the game. Forever thankful Sancho.

Why in the world did it need to be a Live-Service game. Bungie’s involvement and Sony’s push for live-service ultimately sank this game. What a shame.

I’m absolutely heartbroken and can’t still believe we won’t see a glimpse of what ND was working on. I keep telling myself maybe one day we’ll get to see some new iteration of Factions… Thank you Sancho for 10 years of love, laughter and fun. You were one of the main reasons I got hooked to Factions, watching your tips and tricks videos and wanted to be like you. The amount of great memories and friendships I made throughout the years with Factions are countless. Thank you Sancho and all supporters of TLoU Factions MP 💚

Factions used to bring out the very worst and very best of me, it helped me fight depression as it could make me both angry and happy within minutes. It was like a really good drug I guess. A shitty day would become less shitty when kicking out those asses in Factions. Hearing this news made me even more depressed in a way. Thank you Sancho for covering Factions for years and sharing your thoughts with the community. You're right, even if it's over, we've BEEN here, we've experienced it. Nobody can take that from us

We Were There. You did a great job representing the community, it feels like we're all in mourning right now. Factions 2 felt so close, but seeing it succumb to the games-as-a-service trend was one of the worst ways to see it go.

Factions is where I met really dope people like yourself:,) I made actual friends who are like family to me & we still speak to this day. I’ve been playing this since 2013. It’s still one of the best & strategic multiplayer games I’ve ever played. Nothing can compare to what factions once was. This really is The Last of Us…

This was the only possible thing that could redeem the steaming pile of shit that TLOU2 was. Completely bullshit the way they have handled this franchise ever since the sequel was announced. I am not even mad anymore, I stopped expecting good things so long ago

Your are not alone, bro. I myself am extremely bummed out too. If I remember correctly I believe I saw another video of yours in the past years ago where you didn't take the revelation that Part II wouldn't release with a Factions mode very lightly either, the feeling was mutual there too. People can make fun of us Factions Fans and we'll be fine (it's all background noise of the Internet) but the fact that we're sad over video games as opposed to some other severe phenomena out there is a testament to how well we have things and that we should not take such luxuries for granted. There's always worse news out there. I'll still remain hopeful, I can only hope whatever money we provide to Sony and Naughty Dog that eventually we get anything to scratch that Factions vibe itch we've been having for ages now (like No Return, non GAAS MP, or Part III even, hell even in-game TLOU cosmetics in other MP games). Game on, dude. We all deserve a good time.

It's insane that the vibe i got on Twitter after seeing a lot of chatter on The Last of Us Factions was a bit off last night. That feeling of anxiety, that something wasn't right. I waited to read the article from Naughty Dog in order to record my genuine reaction, but knew the news wasn't good. I am still very gutted by this news, dude. I'm heart broken and crushed. I thought this was the opportunity to bring the community back and to have my shot with all the big dogs (you, Nick, Rolando, etc.) Turns out I was wrong, we'll never play it, sadly. I have so much respect for you, Sancho. You've inspired me in so many ways I can't describe. We were ALL there for The Last of Us and its IP. We've spend countless hours on Factions. I feel your pain, dude. Hopefully we get to see the project in SOME capacity, but I highly doubt it. Great video as always, brother. Love and respect!

What annoys me is that a lot of people brushed off Factions 1 and were happy Factions 2 was cancelled. Shame on you all for celebrating a missing feature that we were promised and it was an amazing feature at that. Yes majority of people only played TLOU2 for the story but there was a dedicated community that played Factions on PS3 and PS4. Factions 2 had so much potential to be Playstation's next big multiplayer game and I can guarantee you that the Factions community would have supported the game. We didn't get a MP for TLOU Remake and now they are adding a rogue lite mode in TLOU2 without coop? Cmon man

Yeah this one hurts. Been playing Factions since the PS3 days. I've been watching your videos since 2014 Sancho. This sucks for everyone. There is really nothing like Factions. I love Fortnite, Dead by Daylight, etc because they fulfill a niche. Factions fulfills another niche. Not every game needs to make Fortnite money, not every game CAN make Fortnite money. Sigh. I'm just gonna play factions until the servers close. We really didn't want too much from a sequel, just new maps + guns. We'd all take expansion packs for Factions 1 at this point 🤷‍♀. Thanks for being THE Factions guy after all these years Sancho. It's been a joy to see how far you and Nick have come after Factions' heyday came and went. Bless you and your family man.

This is really really sad. TLOU faction is easily my most played online PVP game.....beating Halo 3 which is insane in its own right. I could speak at length to my experiences and to why Factions was SO good, at this point the people here already know so it goes without saying. I am extremely disappointed in Naughty Dog for this, definitely the end of this particular style of arena 3rd person shooter. The campaign made me love TLOU, the PVP kept me coming back for YEARS and YEARS. Sadge. Love your content Sancho those faction videos were informational and hella entertaining. Best of luck m8.

Thank you Sancho. I too was there from every moment you spoke of in the video. Playing the original Factions in 2013 was an incredible life altering feeling. I met one of by best friends from playing factions. We had been waiting for so long and to have this happen is heartbreaking.

I personally think Naughty Dog company has not been doing great. they been having layoffs, disgruntled employees leaving after finished projects. Stuff like that can affect these decisions.

I'm someone who hasn't been on this channel for years when I kept up with your daily factions videos. With the recent news and seeing youtube recommending this video to me, I feel like it's fate that I'm now back to express my condolences 😞

Most anticipated game for me in the last two years. This news really broke my spirit, Im depressed. No one want this live service at all, all we want it Faction like in the first part just with new maps and new mechanics from Part 2.

I just found out that they cancelled The Last Of Us Online / Factions 2. I find it hard to believe that Sony can’t throw more money at Naughty Dog to create a second division to handle JUST THIS GAME. I literally have been paying for PlayStation online for years JUST to play Factions. This seems pennywise and pound foolish and a blunder of magnificent proportions. This hit me hard.

And just like that, I'm not buying another Naughty Dog game. I'm voting with my wallet. If they insisted on doing Single Player their way, we felt they'd do right by the fans and give us the fan-perfect Factions. Love to the fans should always be in the budget.

This is a complete blow to the chest man. Been there since 2013 on PS3 and ever since. All good things must come to an end, I will continue to play Factions 1 for as long as god gives me life! Factions for life!!

After reading the tweets and seeing the reactions, I'm truly baffled why ND, with it's 10+ year history of making flawed but quaint MP experiences, would try to go about making a Live Service "Forever game". I don't know what's worse; that Sony execs might have pushed this business model onto them, or that ND came to this result entirely of their own volition...

Saddest news ever. I have purchased everything Uncharted & TLOU, but factions is what I loved most. Sad to say I’m boycotting Naughty Dog. I’ve been lied too by this company. Even if TLOU 3 comes out, if it has no multiplayer im not touching that game.

thank you for BEING THERE Sancho West. I went through some tough times in 2013-2014 and thanks to your youtube videos on TLOU Factions and the game itself, made those dark days a bit brighter. When in darkness, look for the light... and you were shining bright brother for which a whole lotta love and respect! Now I know Naughty Dog knows they made a brilliant single player, I've never before or again played a game that not only captured your mind but your heart aswell. But you can only play a single player so many times. Now Factions, well... 10 years running! Need I say more. No I did not play all those 10 years. But I know people did. What I can say, is that I never before nor after played ANY multiplayer game for more than a few weeks. Factions I played for years. My girlfriend at the time even preferred watching the gameplay over TV or anything else. What an absolute brilliant creation you made Naught Dog, and thank you for all the glorious moments of not being contronted with stress or hurt but just enjoy playing. And thank you Sancho West, for it was the combined experience of that game with all the content you created, the tips&tricks which taught me so much, and of course the Friday Faaaaaaaaaaan Loadout which got me to check the calendar, the ONLY thing that got me to check the calendar and truly the only show I watched as a routine in that time of my life. I am so grateful for your commitment to entertain us, educate us and be the voice of all of us towards Naughty Dog to make heard our wish to have a TLOU Factions 2. This is how i felt when ND stopped supporting UC4 multiplayer in just 2 years

Just heard about the cancellation today, TLOU factions was my favorite multiplayer experience when I was younger. There truly was nothing like it. I would've purchased TLOU2 solely for another factions multiplayer, but was disappointed when there was none included. I still remember the excitement I felt when I heard a standalone multiplayer factions game was coming one day, but sadly that day will never come. Wish this wasn't the case.

Been playing Factions for the best part of a decade. I would watch Sancho’s Friday Fan Loadouts and try out new things in Supply Raid/Interrogation. I would religiously spend hours just in lobbies playing Factions with friends and just have the best time online. Hearing this news…I’m devastated, like it hasn’t set in properly but just seeing that Factions 2 has been cancelled…just no words. At least we still have OG Factions…the best online multiplayer game I’ve ever played

Sancho all's I gotta say is thank you. In 2013 I was still in HS I still play factions to this day. There's only 3 games I play online it's BF1 COD (any of the free ones PS plus drops) and of course TLOU Factions I haven't been able to play any other online game and love it as much as I do factions you were the best TLOU RU-vidr of the time and all these years later I've always wondered and hoped to come back to your channel to see how you would cover TLOU2 it's a sad moment but hopefully with the next game we'll see.

It hurt me that they released TLOU on PC without Factions MP specially since I no longer own consoles

The new game didn't need live service if the foundations for it were as good as the devs that worked on it say. OG Factions is a testament to that as it's still decently active 10 years later even though the updates for it stopped long ago. Sticking to their guns on what they've done before instead of trying to go with the GaaS trend was the way - it wasn't wrong for them to dream in itself, but now that dream is dead. We'll always respect everything that the devs, and you, did for us.

the fact that they are saying it would hinder their studio from making good single player games is true, but its also a sorry excuse. You're telling me that it took them all this time to figure out that it would take a lot of resources to keep the game running? Wouldn't you think that would be something they would discuss at the beginning of the process? Leaks already came out and said Bungie/Sony shut it down due to the fact that it most likely would have died as it didn't have anything to keep players playing the game over an extended period of time.

You have my support, and I do care. TLOU Factions was almost my life for a very long time. It's the ONLY multiplayer I come back to visit. When other blockbuster games came and went, Factions stayed.

It was my favorite. especially before some of the op weapon dlc’s It seems that best case scenario naughty dog may have pushed back against Sony pressure/mandatory games as a service Bull shit. Maybe they could t release it the way they wanted so they are pulling the plug.

We fans just wanted factions with tlou2 animations and maps. That's it! We didn't ask for something revolutionary... But it's easier to keep remastering and remaking their games over and over and over I'm not a multi-player guy at all. I'm 32 and factions was the only multi-player game I actually played and sank countless hours

@SachoWest Bro, you need to reach them. It can't be over. Now we have to stand up as a community. You found the perfect words to describe what WE ALL feel like right now. Tell them that we only want a 4vs4 Mode with Part 2 mechanics. It's possible, as you said. For many of us OG Factions was more than just a game. It was a passion, almost a lifestyle. Personally, I met my gf in this game. Also many friends that became kinda part of the family aswell. You will never hear storys like this about other Multiplayers, let alone the experience itself. As a community we deserve better than this and I am sure that YOU are the one who can fix this. But if we give up, its over. We are all sad about this news, but NaughtyDog always cared about their Community. They will listen, they see the feedback. But we need a voice... thats you ❤ Thanks for the amazing memorys 🙏🏼

We were there with you Sancho, all the way. It’s hard to say goodbye, I found my best friend through factions. Over 8 years we talked everyday. He passed away last January. In his tribute I made a TLOU tattoo and placed it on my forearm. I’ll never forget the happiness the game brought us for all those years. Thank you Sancho for your dedication and I wish you the best in your endeavors.

It is sad that factions 2 is cancelled and part 1 was probably the best game ive played, and it is sad that they let us down with this but we just gotta live with it and move on. Factions 1 🐐

For someone with no investment in TLOU's MP, this was a great video to show how much it mattered to the loyal fans. There are so many players looking forward to this that are left with nothing now. That's kind of a rough deal after waiting years. Ambition is great but maybe they should've just made improvements on what worked and called it a day. Seems like basically the same mode with more maps/tweaks would've made a lot of people happy.

End of an era

I used to love Factions, but cheaters have ruined the experience with wall hacks and aimbots. There seem to be no penalties, so most don't even try to hide the fact that they're cheating.

I never had a problem getting in a game... SO WHY SHUT IT DOWN? no factions in 2. I'm done with they games.

I played factions since day one and im still in denial that its not coming out. Even started playing again last year to start warming up. It's the game that got my wife into gaming and it's still so much fun and sweaty. I know factions 2 was so grimey but im gonna bother them for tlou 3. We can't let it end like this.

The only thing they had to do was remake the original maps and add new ones eventually, add new paid cosmetics, guns, more maps. The original MP is still popular. Someone got greedy and decided it could be bigger. It could turn into the next Fortnight.

Totally weird..felt unreal almost a dream. Like I was busy with everything (as were others) and the news popped up- didnt know what to really let out/it was also like i was expecting it to happen. But im not gonna lie i did almost forget it was still in "development". We're all waiting patiently, that was key, but the patience let to unevitable disappointment.

They just need to bring back UC3 multiplayer

Been playing TLOU factions since the game released in 2013 and i was beyond excited for this project. I know it wasn't going to be like DayZ or H1Z1 one when it first dropped but damn I wanted to see something cool in the style of The last of Us. I really miss factions, especially playing with a well oiled team. RIP

The single player only people, is the reason they feel they don’t need online gaming. You attract introverted people, who only wants to be challenged by mpc’s. You didn’t attract or don’t attract hardcore online players. You never promoted online gaming. Rockstar is number one for a reason and mainly because they help players connect with friends on a daily. They wasted all the resources for remasters, but couldn’t do it for an online game. What are we paying for nowadays? What’s the use for PSN? The remakes can’t slow them down, but not a fresh online experience??? They said they making 3 need games.

Factions is a good time with friends. As someone that LOVES a good PVE and Teamwork based PVP game mode, I was looking forward to this and it's pretty disappointing that it was canceled. Especially after they got our hopes up for it. It's just so disappointing for the Factions community.

My hope is it will be in part 3 as factions, but just a standalone mp and not a live service factions.

I don't think whatever they were making was what we wanted anyway. All we wanted was classic 4v4 multiplayer. We didn't need an open world, a story or coop. We just wanted to play Factions with all of the improvements to gameplay that Last of Us 2 had. I played Factions a few days ago and it is still an amazing game, it's incredibly frustrating and disappointing that Naughty Dog won't give us more of what we love. They could surely have made it for the remaster and included it in that rather than this rogue lite mode they've added....or in addition to it.

We were there.

I started my ND multiplayer experience with UC2, hiding in Temple because I couldn't keep up with everyone else. Then UC3 emerged which was amazing fun. The pinnacle was TLOU Factions, playing a strategic MP that focused on more than just how fast your fingers moved. When ND announced that Factions 2 wasn't shipping with TLOU2, I was frustrated and angry. We'd waited so long. TLOU2 made up for that loss but there was still hope and there was still a gap in my gaming. I really thought that they would make it happen. Even in 2020, I wondered how far off Factions 2 could really be if they'd planned to ship it. For it to be canceled is heartwrenching. As you say Sancho, we were there and we're here. We loved that game. All I wanted was a slightly updated version with new maps, controls and maybe a couple of new modes (co-op horde and BR would have been amazing). I wonder if ND let it get too big or they were pressured to go in the GaaS direction. Such a shame and not sure that anything will come close to that Factions vibe.

What to say.... I feel for the ppl whose hard work will never be seen. I came here bc I knew Sancho would have something to say. I hope that the somber emotion that was presented was and will be countered with the firey "what the f***" that I personally felt...... A 10 year betrayal will be hard to ignore, is all I am saying. Naughty Dog fans are some of the most patient players out there, and thats because we know that when ND releases something, its going to be GREAT, not just good. Every single player game they've released AND every multiplayer mode they've released is speical and an aspiration for quality across the entire industry. That's why I think the biggest mistake that they can make is to give up on a project. Every person who put 100, 500, 1000+ hours into OG factions knew that this mode was going to be great, a gem of quality and fun in a multiplayer industry that is saturated with derivative design and monetization. Imo, multiplayer games are overall just horrible right now, completely divorced from the idea of being FUN, and obsessed with being a hamster wheel with an addictive monetization system. This is the only multiplayer game I have been excited for in years. And once again, we all KNOW that Factions 2 would have been great. The word disappointed is an understatement. My hope is that the years of work they've put in will be put to good use elsewhere because Naughty Dog is still the greatest game studio of all time.

Man.. it's SO heartbreaking to hear... And their reasoning is definitely a valid one, and i agree with them if that's the only reason. But i have SO many questions man. like, i genuinely don't think anyone expected factions 2 to be getting constant huge updates like gta online or something. we knew that'd cost them too much, and I'm sure they knew as well. so why is it only so far in development that they realized it's not worth it? i think what happened is sony and bungie [with the jason schreier article that came out earlier this year] realizing they can't overmonetize it forever, instead of making it a one time purchase for 60/70$ like perhaps the original idea was. because trying to fit in a battle pass and stuff like that would require constant new content being injected. And it sucks so much man.. Reading the dev's tweets about it, it sounds like they had a genuinely great game on their hands. the first factions was literally THE most fun multiplayer game I've ever played, ever.. I really think we could've had something amazing if sony/bungie would have accepted it as what it is instead of trying to make it fortnite 2 or something. but idk, it's still just a guess, hopefully soon we'll hear more about what was going on behind the scenes. but it's over now.
