In which we hear about the consequences of exceeding the designed torsional forces in pump mounting pegs by messing about with things we don't understand.

As far as I understand the very very early pressure control tractors didn't have a pressure relief valve in the pump and relied on the pressure control system. Shortly into production someone realised it was silly having 2 different pumps for the pressure control and non pressure control models so the relief valve version was fitted to both pressure control and standard models effectively giving the pressure control machines 2 relief valves. In the late 60s or early 70s when the mk3 major hydraulic redesign took place the pressure control system was integrated into the pump more than the earlier version and was again used as the sole pressure relief valve even on tractors not fitted with pressure control. However nothing to stop your genius going into the pressure control system and winding it up to the point of causing the damage shown here...

Thank you for that, I have learned something today! This did originally have pressure control. Maybe when they removed the pump they just didn't bother to fit a prv. Thanks for watching and please keep commenting.

Yep. that original lift cover must have been a Pressure control one and because the new one is a later cover is didnt have the Pressure control setup and they didnt put on on the pump because they didnt know probably.

Hard to believe someone would pull a stunt like that. Hope the drive shaft and bearings are still good as well as the pump casing. I’ve been reinstalling the ipto clutch and hydraulic pumps on the 590 today . Both relief valves in place !

Remember we bought a second hand 135 that the hydraulics didn't work on the farm got it really cheaply 👍 discovered that the standpipe that fits into the port just below and to the right of the seat had been removed and when replaced had not been inserted into the pump 😳 excellent video as always 👍

I would have thought an engineer would have removed the original spec relief valve and replaced it with a higher rated relief valve rather than blanking the port with a bolt. I am no engineer (bodger is much nearer) and that is what I would have considered or looked for an uprated pump. Imagine the tell tale bang from the backend when those pins broke or if the pump housing had cracked. Interesting stuff when following someone else into the guts of a machine!
@ClarenceFudWeasel

@Tomcat71

That pump is setup for the early pressure control lift covers, after they got a used cover that was newer, it didnt have the pressure relief setup and they probably didnt even realize that system WAS the relief valve. Bit of a shade tree type mistake, but an honest one if you dont know how the system works and are just a parts changer.

Is this video for a Massey Ferguson MF135 ? I have to change the relief valve on my tractor. I think the spring in the relief valve is broken. Could you make a video how to change the engine oil pump on a MF135 ?

On a similar-ish theme..........our old 575 if lifting say a heavy McHale bale it sounds like a bag of rattles under the cab floor when the load is stationary........but not when it is lifting or indeed lowering......or indeed if you shift the diverter valve to ext1 or 2. Lifts fine but sounds like shite with a bale on, moreso with hot oil. At tickover it might be rattling like twice per second. Might that suggest the lift cylinder is wobbling about a bit or could it be pump related. Doesn't sound like the blow off valve and in fairness it shouldn't be popping unless it has failed and broken the spring. Dowel pins are pretty new maybe about 250 hours. Can I drain the oil to the bottom of the RH inspection plate and have a peer into it with the engine running and a weight on the back to ascertain what is making the racket. Relief valve can be replaced through the side cover I would imagine with a bit of fiddling and or modifying spanners to reach in there

Sorry for the obvious question, and no offence intended, but have you got the position control lever at the Constant Pumping setting? It's right at the top of the UP section of the quadrant.
@g00167015
@g00167015 2 года назад
No, I was (very badly) trying to say that if I lifted the heavy bale and then put the tractor in constant pumping AND ext1 (my loader valve chest is on this)........then there was no noise in keeping the heavy load stationery. Lifting the bale three inches or indeed twenty-three inches off the ground will be silent just until it comes stationary, whereupon the rattle would start. No noise when the lift is moving, just when it is stationary with a heavy load. With let us say the wet heavy McHale bale on, the rattle goes away when: A) you move the position lever down or up a bit so the lift isn't stationary. B) you divert the pump output to the spool valves
@ClarenceFudWeasel
@ClarenceFudWeasel 2 года назад
@@g00167015 That sounds very much like the control valve is out of adjustment and it thinks you are in constant pumping when the lever just says up. Constant pumping does make a loud rattle because it is only supposed to be used with Ext 1 or Ext 2 circuits where there is a return line, such as going through a spool block. The position control lever behaves like a spool valve controlling the lift cylinder. If the cylinder drops, (worn rings, internal leakage etc.) the a cam on this inside of lift arm moves the position of the control cam and opens the control valve momentarily to put some more oil into the lift cylinder to put the load back where it was.
@g00167015
@g00167015 2 года назад
@@ClarenceFudWeasel The quadrant on the outside is setup as per the service manual, ie going to constant pumping rotates the cross shaft about another 1/8" or perhaps 3/16" from memory. Plus at any rate I have a stop peg at the up-position and have to push the quadrant lever around it to go near constant pumping. As I mentioned, even if I just lift 2" off the ground and come stationary, it'll rattle......., with heavy weight on, that is. Question is can the necessary adjustments be done through the side panel or will the top cover need opening. Through the side might be a bit fiddly and require bending or modifying wrenches but that is no problem. Am I right in saying my 575 will have a mk3 pump, so it doesn't have the small relief valve as in your video, but instead the pressure control valve which is a slightly larger assembly. Can the fasteners or adjustments screws for this be accessed through the side cover, as the assembly itself will be small enough to fit through the side cover should it need to come out. This will be handier than removing the cab floor, cross member, connections and hoses, plus a generous layer of shite in order to open the top cover. Thank you for your help.
@g00167015
@g00167015 2 года назад
If my understanding of the 500 series service-manual (workshop bible) is correct........the two main adjustments on the control valve assembly are 1)the limit-screw which sticks out the back (supposed to be 14mm height to the head of the setscrew) 2) The setscrew which adjusts the tension in the relief valve, accessible by swapping the rearmost bolt on the selector valve for one with a hole drilled through its length.

@@agrilineproducts7430 The labor to shred will likely prevent that concept in the US. The roll of bubble wrap is simply too convenient & fast. We did see crumpled newspaper in years past, however daily newsprint has fallen to digital technology. We are told that cardboard is recycled here, however in what form that takes is never really defined. Thanks for weighing in on this matter.

Would the parts have been slightly over rated back in 65 in case the pressure release valve failed

The valves rarely stick shut, generally they stick open and you lose pressure. But you are right, the parts are over-engineered, but this is long term abuse. Thanks for watching.
