Why not add snail bait, if available to you, to the top a few weeks before you bring them in?? Will have to be sure it’s safe for “nuisance”. Looks like your shelves can be rearranged, taken apart and add on to others to add more space for “more plants”.
Great considerations. My cymbidiums tolerated nights in the 30 to 35 degrees F range. Brother, in the spring they produced voluminous blooms. The cold did not seem to bother the plants.
Hi, Roger! Those Cymbidiums are very happy giants!😊 I had only one with green flowers with a touch of very dark red (Cymbidium Valley Zenith). It was a gift and huge, so I promised myself I would not get another one, just like you used to say back at your old place, when you only had Hannah's. But lo and behold, last weekend I went to a garden center and surrendered to the delicate beauty of two not-so-huge Cymbidiums with awfully pretty blooms One Cymbidium Poethic Ghost and a Cymbidium Palace Pearl "Marie"! 😁
I have just checked the temperatures and we had 2 degrees at night. I have left my cymbidiyms out 🤦♀️🤦♀️. Hopefully they are OK. They are spiking like mad tho
Winters here are far to cold and wet for orchids to stay outside. Some are ok for about 5 months of the year but the weather becomes too risky outside of end of May to beginning of October.
It was originally built for my Bonsai trees but they went onto more 'purpose-built' staging. Once it's back in and in place with the orchids on, it will fit in better.
I may have a re-think. But for the moment, I can't think of a better way than on a moveable set of shelves. My main worry is not having plants in direct line from the heater.
Can't wait to see the results of your Bloom feed. I've yet to buy any but that's mostly cause I have only a box for my fertilisers, insecticide and other related products. Not sure how true it is (being out of touch due to not keeping fb account, tik-tok etc) but it feels like there are plant growth booster trends that come in waves via ppl more connected to mainstream media. I've come by several of such products via my mother who has, generous and loving as she is, bought them to me as well. Some of the products that made a wave are region restricted due to the company not even producing outside of it. So I'm wondering if that's the case elsewhere as well. And new product will cause a new wave and trend among growers. xD But maybe I'm just being too cynical about all of this.
The thing that comes in waves most often is the different media. One very popular RU-vidr only has to change and many others follow suit. What people forget is the quite different environments which means what works for one could turn into a disaster for another.
