Was surprised you didn’t mention pizzicato alla chitarra such as in Glazunov or Prokofiev D major violin concertos, or the rapid tapping pizzicato in Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade. The former might not be of much general use for most of us, but many more will play the latter… This was a nice collection of info that I’ve learned over the years, compressed into a compact package. I look forward to the LH pizz installment!
I'd say the super-soft straight vertical pizz that I mention somewhere in the middle would apply to that Scheherazade passage... at least that's what I do there!
This is GREAT! I have always dreaded long pizzicato passages in chamber and orchestra music because I didn't like my sound, and these ideas will help! I'm remembering how I dreaded the LONG pizz we had to play in Rimsky-Korsakov's "Russian Easter Overture." THANK YOU! 😊🎶
Hey, great videos! This is really a service to the violin-learning public. Incidentally, did you attend a National Symphony Orchestra workshop in the summer of 1993? If so, I think I remember you there. My name's Isaac, in case RU-vid doesn't show that.
Hi! I wanted to ask how you keep your right hand shape in form when playing a fast pizzicato passage. I'm currently working on Malagueña by Sarasate and there is this passage that alternates between pizzicato, left-hand pizz, and bowing that I can't quite get. Also thanks for such an informative video! I never knew violinists could have such freedom deciding the pizz sound!
What an amazing compilation of pure gold and fun! Can’t immagine of going this far. Thank you Nathan! P.S. What is Lakatos using, mandolin effect with 2 fingers?
