Ah the mighty upcrate! Talking of the prompt and how vague it is, i have decided i am done bothering with it. Looking at what wins the monthly challenges i don't see any real connection to the prompt from the vast majority of the winners which i find frustrating. This month's winner also managed to showcase Upcrate's amazing lack of attention to detail. Wrong artist named as the winner- ugh!

This is why I've only ever done Artful, I find a quarterly box, which also has the option to see what the art type in it is so you can skip it, is far better for me. That hemp paper looked interesting.

I'm so sick of paint pens in scrawlr box. :( it seems ages since we had anything new and exciting.

I'm actually very tired of Scrawlrboxes... They have too little variety! I put all my Upcrate supplies in one box, all my Scrawlrbox supplies to another. Scrawlrbox had a pencil in almost every box I had received, and a (black) fineliner in most. There were several rubbers as well. Several paint pens. Upcrate had different watercolours, random coloured pencils, etc. Only a couple of pencils and fineliners (excluding their fineliner box). I also love that Upcrate gives us main brand supllies! This month the Liquitex paints really scored some points. Idk if Frisk is a real art supply brand (ie. lightfast colours where possible, good manufacturing standards etc.) but the markers seemed like the ones I got from some Chinese discount "no name" brand from Amazon. Yet to get my Scrawlrbox but I don't know if I have a use for these (I love paint markers, and have a lot of both high end and cheap markers so basic colours especially are well covered).

I have watched Kasey Golden’s Prompt videos since she started. I was so sad when she went on hiatus but she kept doing them on occasion like once every 3 or 4 months? But she just got going and has started posting regular prompt videos! I am super happy! 150’s out of the 500 prompts book! I am hopeful that she will get back to regular videos. I am wondering about paint levels of your markers? I am going to wait and see if you have troubles that most other Fisk users are going through? I have purchased several Scrawlrbox boxes as previously released boxes, but never subscribed as I just don’t appreciate surprise art supplies! I am enjoying watching your videos and listening to you. I am glad you are feeling well enough to travel and get to go on your trip! Honestly, both of these are a little meh! Acrylic is not my medium. I look at acrylic as sort of utilitarian. Like house paint. It's to touch stuff up. Or paint small craft things. I am honestly curious to see what you might think of Etsy craft mystery boxes. Maybe that might be fun. I am very curious to know how the help paper will react to watercolor maybe you can take one of the sheets and try a watercolor picture on it!

Yeah, I've stopped my Upcrate subscription because I don't like the way that they now do the "magazine". I was thinking about getting Scrawlr box but I'm not sure due to the money conversion rate between AUD and GBP/EUR.

Hi Gem, great unboxing. I stopped my Upcrate subscription when they moved to digital magazine and after seeing a few unboxings since I’m not unhappy with my decision. I have kept on with Scrawlrbox for the very reasons you brought up, more thought and care goes into the boxes. It’s easier to see this when you watch their monthly livestream on here (I’ve been at almost every one now) and they are asking what their subscribers want, listening to them and going over their thought process for that particular month’s box. I didn’t realise it was such a small team. Hope you’re enjoying your new home ❤

Ive recently unsubscribed from both upcrate as well as Paletteful, for similar but different reasons. I left paletteful not because the boxes were terrible (though some were for sure) but because i felt like i was beginning to get repeat products. Which was sad, because it wasnt BAD repeats, but repeats nonetheless. With upcrate, i had hoped more for brands that may be harder to get stateside, which they certainly did deliver on in several boxes, but not gonna lie, i was pretty disenchanted when one of my first boxes was blow pens 😂😂😂and losing the magazine really hurt as well, i enjoyed sitting and reading it before getting arty. but ultimately, even though i didnt have it long, it seemed to lack creativity, which is the antithesis of what i want from an art subscription box. Im now moving on to a sticker subscription box, and not gonna lie, im pretty stoked about it 😅

I’ve quit both of my art box subscriptions (Upcrate & Sketchbox). I think they are nice for new artists. But…I have a studio full of art supplies and I don’t need any more bloody pencils or pens! 😂 Now I’m using my money to go for specific supplies that I know that I’ll use and not just tuck away. Plus, saving money is a plus as well.✨

There's a QR Code inside the magazine for more information on the Supplies in the box. At least for the Frisk Markers. I'm actually getting to a point, where I'm considering to end my ScrawlrBox subscription next year, because I have so many art supplies and the prompts aren't really inspiring me lately. I feel like it's a waste of money and resources if I don't end up using the supplies I get every month. And haven't done any arting in a while, either. Just don't really feel like it.

The hemp paper from Hempa is the first thing I've ever bought from one of those 10% off codes from an Upcrate box. That paper is soo good. I'm in love with it. try pencils on it, Gem-Gem :)
