To this day I’m still confused on why some people in the hawks front office thought sticking two dudes together who are most effective with the ball in their hands and are statues off ball was a good idea
@@bean9045dj just isn’t a good defensive Sg. Trae has been way better defensively. Not good but better. Just both mid to low at defense IN THEIR CURRENT POSITION. Dj is a great defensive pg not sg. Too small
@@histericalcheese1028honestly DJ isn’t a good defender either way bc he plays passing lanes way too often and leaves his teammates is bad spots. Fact is ownership pushed for this trade and they are trash. That’s why Travis quit his job 😂. Trae needs a big man like Jaxson Hayes. DJ a midrange assassin but that’s not what this team needed. They need Kevin back bc he helped space the floor better.
Trae Young is the opposite of a player that can thrive under Popovich. He’s a chucker that plays absolutely zero defense. I get that he’s a decent playmaker and a good passer but he would have to play a lot smarter in San Antonio for it to work.
The hawks made it to the conference finals in a year everyone was hurt. That’s why the bucks and hawks all of a sudden can no longer win bc the year these two teams were good literally all the stars in the east and west were injured.
Yeah you are better off drafting Sheppard or Topic and not having a PG that is going to have the ball dominance that Trae demands. Wemby is going to need the ball as much as possible.
Trae is the problem...his heart and head is not at Atlanta anymore... Let Dejounte run the show and build around him....existing role players are quite good
@@carsonog333 when trae was injured he was out only player to run the offense with. His stats were inflated. Trae hasn’t had that same freedom all season. Not the same situation. DJ is less of a 1st option than trae though both aren’t. I thought that was easy to realise but some fans I’ve seen are crazy
@@histericalcheese1028oh WOW his stats were inflated ? Well duhh if trae young shoots 30+ attempts no one gets to shoot. Trae is a ball hog who was willing to lose to keep the title
As a Celtics fan, I want to than Atlanta for the 2 games a few weeks ago where the hawks came back from 30 and then beat the Celtics again back to back with the Celtics on like 4 days rest. Even though the Celtics lost, I liked those games, the hawks put on a show and it was the most interesting the Celtics have been in months with such a huge lead on everybody in the East.
@@wintervolcano5266 it’s not disrespect to state an obvious truth 😆 I don’t know if a player that their team plays better and has a better win/loss record without them qualifies as “one of the best”
@@RealFlankenBerry a man who averages 25 points a game with 10 assists is absolutely one of the best in the league, geniuses like urself love to cherry pick ur facts and bs ur way to not give players their flowers. Fact is if a player can play that well at that level they absolutely are one of the best
@@wintervolcano5266 stating the win/loss and for example the +/- of the last couple games being -35 and -27 for Trae…. Is not cherry picking. Hawks won more games with Trae OUT than him playing. Cherry pick that. But hey! He almost got a triple double with points assists and turnovers in the regular season finale!
@@RealFlankenBerry, stats can’t measure everything. Trae represents a lot to a lot of people including myself. Magic Johnsosn isn’t a leader in assists but you won’t say John Stockton is a better passer right?
@@mynk_coatz lol y'all bring up that fluke playoff run like it's a damn championship. But I guess when your team is trash you got to hold on to anything that remotely resembles success.
Atlanta has talent that is no debate but for the past 2 years it has always been the defensive talent and that has been shown against a bulls team that is not a good offensive team shot 42% from 3 against a team that has always been bad at point of attack. DJ is a dawg but he is a primary guard next to a primary guard and DJ has been pretty much a doughnut in terms of running an offense compared to Trae, also Kobe Bufkin can be that DJ replacement. If you build around a smaller guard that is not a + defender, you should not have a team full of undersized players that are defensively challenged. They are bottom 3 in height. Assuming Atlanta has 2 picks in the draft, Donovan Clingan should be a top priority since he has size, it allows them to move off Capela and spend on a perimeter defender. The other first can be used on another forward defender because Atlanta is desperate for size and point of attack defenders.
Trae is not a franchise player. Would be good for Hawks to trade him to Spurs and get their 2 picks back. Otherwise, Hawks will be number 8-10 lottery again next year and Spurs will just use their pick.
Agree that Atlanta need to make changes this off-season. Think best is trade Young and Cepela and keep the remaining core. They might end up the same seeding next season but with more cap flexibility.
I’d try to unload Trae, Capela, and Bogdan this offseason for as many young players, expiring contracts, and draft assets as they can. Id even try to move Hunter, but I’m not sure if he’d have a market. I’d plan on building around Dejounte, Jalen, Onyeka, and the other young guys as my long term pieces. I think that’s a coherent core that you could build around and be competitive in 2-3 years.
I think Trae's unwillingness to play offball has been THE issue here. One of the reasons GSW worked so well in their hayday is cause Curry was always looking for an open shot when Draymond had the ball. The system could be so much more effective if there is always a threat of Trae coming off a screen for a 3 and Dejounte using his energy playmaking and defending more.
Good video but every good competitive team has a stretch 4 that is great at hitting threes and defense like Porzingis, Chet, and Wemby. I think Hawks need Lauri Markkeanean.
I really think Atlanta could actually turn this around pretty quickly. They can’t bottom out without control of their first rounders for the next three years. Trade Trae and reshuffle around Murray.
That ATLA conference finals run wasn't really very impressive. They got god draws, Knicks and Philly I think, and those were easy wins, one was that game that broke Ben Simmons. It wasn't some impressive run ll and they've been like .500 since for years.
I'm totally sure the front office now is clueless. All the offseason moves last year backfired. You got the owner and his son pulling all the strings now.
Honestly, for how the Spurs play, they probably just would prefer to get Dejounte Murray back I mean I don’t think they wanna guard that can’t play defense they already have Tre Jones also, it might just be a San Antonio thing, but Dejounte Murray played excellent defense when he was on the Spurs
@@Jayse bloke averages 35% from three and can't play defense. Not sure what you mean by "generational passer" but there are a couple of other blokes in this generation who can pass just as well. He's a good player, but if you want to win a ring, you don't want him on your team. Maybe if he was 6 inches taller.
Trae and DJ have to figure out how to play together, and I believe they will. It takes time to get used to playing a different style than you’re accustomed to. The one player who most definitely needs to be traded is DeAndre Hunter. People seem to forget that he was drafted higher than Trae, which means he was supposed to be just as good or better than Trae. Neither one happened. But hardly anyone mentions DeAndre Hunter’s name when they talk about what’s wrong with the Hawks.
They should trade trae for sure, Trae will get you much more value then dejounte on the market and you could build around the haul of assets you trade trae for and dejounte and Jalen Johnson.
the game not even over and he posted this... yeah this dude definitely pre-films both scenarios before the game so he can post one as soon as it is over haha. respect the grind.
Trading Trae to the Spurs sounds nicer than it actually is. In the court him and Wemby will be unstoppable but his antics are not gonna be tolerated there. I would trade him anyways if I’m the hawks and start a full rebuild because clearly this one didn’t work.
I have no idea where this idea Trae is all star guy came from. The man shoots 30% from three for his playoff career. He shoots 35% from three for his regular season career. Both sub league average. Does he have assists? Sure, but he also has like 5 turnovers a game. A ratio of 2 assist to 1 turnover is very bad. And we haven't even gotten to his awful defense. The team that buys into Trae Young is buying into the play in
Yeah he was bad this game and the boxscore doesn't really tell the whole story, his defense is beyond terrible all he did was try and swipe at guys and didn't even make an effort to get back into play he was literally walking at times. He had 5 quick turnovers which put them in a hole they tried to get out of the whole game, soon as they were coming back he came in and immediately the lead shot back up again
Love your channels.. ? How to you feel sbout the kings this past season? An are chance to make the finals. I don't think we can beat the top 2 teams in the East or West, but i hope we can make it to the West finals even the 2nd round honestly I'm just happy we made it the pass few seasons
They just went to the conference finals a couple of seasons ago then they traded their core players and fired their coach. Looks like a management issue isn't it? If Trae wants to be there then they should keep him and trade Murray. They should keep Trae and Jalen Johnson, get an All-NBA perimeter defender like Jeremi Grant or Mikal Bridges and get a star big man. If Trae wants to leave then they should just start a rebuild.
A quick fix for the Hawks goes like this for me........Get an athletic center somehow like Nick Claxton and move Okongu to the 4 & JJ to the 3, that way you have solid rim protection, much better rebounding, better overall defense & still really good pick & roll options!!! Unlike most, I didn't expect much from the Hawks thus year, cause they did NOTHING this off-season and after they could NOT get Siakam in a trade, I knew this season was doomed!!! Has Trae & Dejounte worked.....NO; but I believe they can once Quinn puts an offense in that suits them both. Lastly, Trae is a liability on defense, but they new that when drafting him, hence the idea of having a bigger more formidable front court; however, his offensive skillset is next level and Murray proved this year that he could definitely be a Robin to Trae's Batman or Pippen to Jordan.......NOT at all suggesting they are near their level, but you get the gist. JJ working on his game and a young active Big man and the Hawks will be just fine
The problem with the hawks is CONSTANT change every season. I thought it was a Trae Young problem but no. We shouldn’t have gotten rid of red velvet. We need at least one good vet to help push the rookies. The fact we had the longest rain in constant playoffs placement then it went away shows something went terribly wrong
Luckily for Atlanta still has its 2024 first round pick, but for the next 3 seasons San Antonio has control over their picks thanks to the Dejounte Murray trade - the Spurs own Atlanta's 2025 and 27 picks and have rights to swap pick in 2026. And to think - the Hawks traded all of that (+ Danillo Gallinari and a 1st round pick in 2023 which was oddly Charlotte's pick which turned into Brandon Miller) just to be 7-seed at best. Atlanta and Brooklyn are cautionary tales on why throwing away your future to contend now can backfire fast
I'm a Twolves fan, and we went for Djounte and lost to the Hawks. Than we went for Rudy and got him. I remember national media clowning us SO hard, worst trade ever, while congratulating the Hawks. Hindsight is 20/20
Both of them would work but I just think either Trae or DJ has to sacrifice and come off the bench bc neither one of them are effective without the ball in their hands. I bet money that Snyder will have a conversation with both of them and depending on the responses to that role will determine whether or not the Hawks trade either Young or DJ. One thing is for sure though and that is Clint Capella needs to go.
Doesn't matter that the game was still on. Dude watched the Hawks the entire season. It's been over. It didn't come down to the final game with a few minutes left. The team's personnel was mishandled, leadership nonexistent and we see the result.
There's a really good defender in this draft, sadly he can't shoot his name is Ryan Dunn, if Hawks by some miracle land a top 4 pick I'd take Clingan and move on from Capela. I'd only take Dunn if they have the Kings pick, I wouldn't take him with the Hawks pick.
Golden State Warriors need to be aggressive and going for Trae Young this off-season because if not, he’ll ultimately end up in San Antonio. I’m calling it right now.
