Brilliant vlog Rick, there are so many people that want to see you fail. I have had similar experience myself over the years. Money is one thing, but being a decent person is priceless and also respect people. You certainly don’t seem a backwards guy and pretty clued up on lots of different types of work. All haters need to start taking a look at their own lives before trying to bring others down. Basically a form of bullying in my opinion. You and Shelley seem to be real nice genuine people. Never a truer word than people who will try to put you down - at the end of the day they are jealous. They may have money and a flash lifestyle but not the courage to follow their dreams. Something many of us have done. We moved here at your age 20 years ago and have never regretted it for one minute.

I’m 75, trained as a hairdresser in my youth, had lots of jobs to fit in with bringing a family up and working to pay my mortgage off, which is the best feeling in the world! Whilst working in a very busy popular pub kitchen, which I loved, all be it poorly paid in those days, a waitress said to me ‘ why dont you get a proper job! That knocked me, we were all on the books, payed our insurances and taxes. I couldnt answer her. These things happen in life, always interesting to here yours and Shellys journey.
Wise words love listening to you,my family live on the island my dad had a hair dressing business first in the uk then in las galletas retired now but he is fortunate enough to qualify for British and Spanish pension that makes life a little more comfortable hopefully when the time comes you and Shelley will also ,keep up the good work mate .

Very cathartic that Rick. I’m sure the bloke who came out with the MacDonalds comment thought he was being funny but it was a disrespectful and ignorant comment. Thankfully he’s not a close friend. As others have said, peace and happiness equals success. I think the older you get, the less you tend to find other people’s opinions really count. Especially if they’re not close to you.
Enjoying your vlogs , living a totally different life in Tenerife, and the reality of it all . The hardworking hours put into it all . But the reality hit home when you said .The next 15 years to maintain it . ? I’m 58 and time has flown . Only thing I say now is . Enjoy life !
Nice Rick. Glad you are happy where you are. The older I get the more I worry about being left on the shelf and will I have enough later in life. As you say it’s up to you, nobody else can do it for you.

Rick I worked on the oil rigs in the North Sea in my early 20’s on very decent money but I wasn’t happy in my life. Fast forward I work for the NHS Scotland and absolutely love my job as I feel it makes a difference to people. I’m on I’d say average money but I’m so happy in life plus the pension is decent. You are a great guy Rick and should be proud of yourself. Btw people who look down on McDonald’s workers etc are not the nicest people I respect anyone who actually gets off their backside and provides for family. See you in July in new hoppys. Beers on me.
Yes we have been there!there is always someone to make a comment or a bit of a dig!just do what is right for you they can get on with their life..its not always as happy as it seems. Life is a roller coaster (shite song) but true. We have all woke up and cried at our life and our bank account. There have also been times when i have had too much money. We need to find the balance of life, between money and happiness. I tell my kids, we are are not all lucky enough to choose our career but what ever job you do be the best at it. Promotion and money will come. Some of the best jobs i have were also the lowest paid, but as long as i can pay the bills and buy a couple of pints am happy. or enough to buy Rolo some rock climbing boots and safety rope.
Well if that person thought your uniform made you look like you worked at Macdonalds, what did it say about the others that worked there. You normally find people that are so vocal and opinionated, they fall from a big height, wow they had no idea how desperate you could have been for having that job. I’d love to live in Tenerife in the hills and if that includes cleaning the loos in maccy ds I wouldn’t give a ?$!? Quality of life over money every day, of course to have both doing something that you love is a bonus
Hi Rick, Think we have all come across people in life like this bloke, I know I certainly have, being a cab driver fore 34 years, al be it working my way out of the car and into the office, "When are you going to get a proper job" heard so many times from not just friends but family as well. My thoughts were I am good at this and I am going to be the best I can at it, now I have a great position, 85+k a year mortgage paid new car 4 weeks holiday, always now in Tenerife BTW, respect from all my peers, and still apparently not in a proper job, sod them, I have proved to myself they were wrong. Coming over on Sunday 28th mate Hope I meet up with you and Shelly, would like to shake your hand and buy you a beer.

When i was young and started my apprenticeship in a factory in Birmingham a old bloke who worked there said to me save success and your life in how content you are. Even billionaires want more money, you will always want more money, if you have a house a car a nice little family, be content, and you'll be happy. My motto has always been, be happy with your little lot and take whatever comes your way as a bonus.

Haha I had been away from the stage for so long (nearly 16yrs then) so nerves were a jingling lol. Weather is cooler up here for sure but still nice. I still know the bloke and he is an arse in my opinion but things like that tend to spur me on rather than knock me back I suppose. Have a great week

Maybe the McDonalds comment was made to you because the guy thought you could do more. And perhaps thought you had the character to take it and spur you on. Which worked out correct!
