I love how you always let chickens out in the morning for a day's adventures. 😊🐓🐣🐔 They already have penty of space in their coop to enjoy but are given whole farm to roam. They are all very lucky chickens ❤

I was getting really nervous watching Crusoe take the cover off the hand saw which John didn’t seem to notice. 😮 Happily the next shot showed the saw on the roof out of Crusoes reach! He’s such a clever little boy so quick to learn. Soon he’ll be doing the carpentry! Love you guys. 😂

I boiled all my extra tomatoes, peeled the skins off, easy after boiling. I put them in the freezer and in the winter I made tomato-basil soup with milk, butter, salt and pepper to taste. It was so yummy..

Congratulations on hitting 150K Subscribers. It feels like last week you were passing 100K. You are so correct as how fast time goes by. You need to slow down occasionally and take in what you both have accomplished. Sawyer is growing so fast, and Crusoe is now a little independent man. Both are a credit to you. As a suggestion, a good site to watch for gardening is Hollis and Nancy Homestead. They have a large homestead in Florida, USA and he had to start with sandy soil that he successfully treated and has grown an abundance of crops. John has the carpentry skills that will allow for new ways of gardening on your Homestead that could be learned from Hollis and Nancy's Homestead site. You guys have done a remarkable job with your Homestead and I hope you continue to grow! I enjoy all your videos.

As an ex-head teacher there is no better way for them to learn! I am impressed with the amount of freedom they get from both of you. I never had that myself, and missed out on a lot of things! My wife has been setting up a garden as well and we are reaping the benefits of her work. I am handicapped and cannot help, but enjoy reading about yours and seeing the fruits of my wife’s labours. Have to agree with all the great comments above HOWEVER there were several moments I couldn’t watch and they all involved Crusoe. Work tools are just that, not toys but to have a child within reaching grabbing distance while cutting a watermelon is not a great look. Children are so quick and unpredictable - prevent the what ifs 😊

This year my fig tree started producing figs for the 1st time. I am so excited waiting for them to ripen & harvest! I decided to see if I could do anything with the multitude of leaves at the base of my tree. Turns out they have exceptional medicinal benefits & make a wonderful tea! I started making fig leaf sun tea & have fallen in love with its naturally sweet, light smokey taste. Just thought I'd share this info with you thinking you & Crusoe may enjoy making this delightful brew since you grow figs too!

Really wanted to just say that then I see sweet Cruscoe drop his much loved watermelon and wanted to say, when you are told to not think of a pink elephant, then that is exactly what we do see, in our mind. When a child is told, be careful not to drop it, that is also what they see, themselves dropping it. I used to say keep it tight in your arms or in mummy's basket, then he will see his watermelon to safety 🍉 much love ❤️ xx

Hi Newbys Whenever I buy a watermelon from the shop, I leave it whole in the fridge for about a week which helps ripen it up so it's sweeter! Maybe try that before cutting it. Love how Crusoe is speaking so well and his and Sawyer's enthusiasm 👏

Save ALL your seeds and dry them completely and you can plant more next season!

If you are going to store pumpkins, always leave the stem on. If you remove the stem, the pumpkin will start to decompose. If it has its umbilical cord attached, it'll last many months.

I am glad I have no direct neighbours, as I laughed quite loud watching Crusoe's excitement about the cut open water melon, so endlessly precious! Crusoe is good for the immune system! Thank you for sharing all of those beautiful moments of harvesting and accomplishments, cheers from sunny and quite warm Ireland (I just had some of my home grown tomatoes and a bit of kale in my pasta lunch, so so so nice and privileged tobe able to eat home grown food, my water melons are still in bloom, I planted them way too late, but they look beautiful, I had just planted so random seeds from a most delicious fruit)!

I cut the tomatoes into large pieces, roast at 350 for 1 1/2 hours. Then they are ready to put through a mill for tomato sauce put in the freezer for later.

In Korea it is polite to make noise while eating. It is a compliment to the host. It means the food is tasty. I think it is much more natural than mumbling unintelligible compliments through a stiff upper lip pressed on the lower one!

Love the coop…looks great. Also the garden has certainly grown and produced an abundance of food. Sometimes I worry seeing Caruso with the tools, because he is still so young. Taking the cover off the saw and playing with the drill were two examples. But, not letting him go get a knife was right on! Loved the boys enjoying their watermelon.

Watermelon from your own garden is like gold in the ground! In Canada a decent size one sold in the grocery store for around 10-12 dollars this year! What a treat to be able to go and harvest your own fruits and veggies! Kudos to you for your time and hard work !!❤

Have you sun dried any tomatoes as yet? They store well. The chicken coop, the gap you have created at the top of the door could be a place for critters to get in. Some netting would prevent that. I am so pleased you were able to go back and finish your projects you started. Keep safe all of you.

Old gardener here. Watermelons are sweeter if you pick the ones that are rounder, have wider gaps between the stripes and are yellow to orange on the soil side. Also tomatoes will get a mealy texture if you store them in the refrigerator.

We're enjoying 18degrees evening here in UK, well south anyway. Its a good September making most of warm evenings and sitting outside, pubs, gardens- I'm based in South Somerset - loving life. xx
