I love how you’re raising your boys to be brave. My father-in-law always told me, please don’t kill the adventure in your son, don’t make him afraid of everything. I took that to heart even when it made my momma’s heart want to scream nooo! He had lots of bumps and scrapes (nothing terrible) but he survived it all. He’s 29 now and tells everyone he had the best childhood and has so many stories to tell everyone. It makes my heart smile to hear him say that. I think I did okay. And I know you guys are doing okay as well.

I agree with your father in law and you totally. I am now 74 yrs old. I do not have many trophies to display to the world of my achievements. But I can say that I fractured my bones of my adventurous life which I don’t regret at all. Through all those daring pursuits I have learnt a lot in life. My wife and I raised our son and daughter giving them lots of freedom like the Newbys. Now they are raising their children giving them the same life. Love and care in raising your children is not restricting their lives by saying no, no. You may have broken bones in the process but you learn how to live your lives to the full.

Merry Christmas’The Newby’s’ from Scotland. I rarely comment but that was lovely. I have the honour of watching my grandchildren opening their presents on Christmas morning but , from choice, spend the rest of my day alone. A tradition I started my first Christmas as a widow but this year, 5 years later, I am really looking forward to my own space in what has been a very busy year. Wishing everyone who is reading my comment a very merry Christmas and happy 2024 when it arrives. Next year, at 67 I’m being BRAVE and off to EXPLORE Europe by train (which is BIG to me) thanks Newby’s 😊

That was so wonderful to watch the baby up on the bench we could see an accident about to happen but I was so rpbusy looking at the scenery and table when he stepped down and just got up haha . Tough little boys . I raised 3@and yes you have to let them climb and get muddy and jump in puddles ! ❤

Hi Newbys, this episode was so fun to watch! My family and I decorate the tree with the ornaments we purchased during our trips. Each place we visit we buy an ornament. John, I have to admit at first zooming in on you I did think you were Tara and wondered what she did to her hair and then you turned around. It was funny! So good job. Tara, God bless you (sneezing). My parents were very poor when they were young. They made Christmas ornaments out of walnut shells. They cracked them in half took out the nut and glued them back together and painted them red. They did not have green ribbon so they used blue. They always put them on the tree together. I found some glass gold walnuts and gave them to them for their 50th Anniversary. They are also put on the tree together. As with every year this year I am happy to say, was the same as all the others in the past, some 59 years later.

Oh, yes, definitely a treehouse! What a super nice thing for the boys. I am sure that they will love it. Growing up in Africa, I had a tree platform in a large mango tree. That was my happy, dreaming place where I could read my books, observe the animals and simply be at peace with the whole world!

🎉❤ I am a mother who did Christmas ornaments as you spoke! Also we had grandparents purchase an ornament of something special in their life they shared with them- like soccer teams, first job, gift of grades. All the other stuff! My children love sharing with their kids now, their story through ornaments! You will love it!

Was so good to see how you were celebrating the holiday. I was watching Crusoe response to the fireworks . The look on his face was priceless. Very happy to see you having a plant-based dinner 😊🌲. I just made Wellington for hubby’s 50th surprise party and everyone was not plant based but absolutely loved it 🥰. I also make hollandaise from raw cashews, garlic powder, lemon juice, tumeric, & Dijon mustard, pinch salt and 1/2 cup water. Then pour on top your hot food. Merry Christmas to you all…we ❤️ you! PS - I love your sweater!

Wow, thank you for that Christmas special. The Mushroom Wellington looked fabulous! I think I may have to try that when I go home to stay with my Mom in Colorado. She is vegan and I think would love it! Crusoe's face watching the fireworks was adorable. He was memorized. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

I love that ornament tradition! As my children are already adults, it’s too late to start for their childhood memories, but I would love to do it for the grandbabies to come someday. Your children will have the best reminders of their travels and of the times that were “Ooh! So lovely!” Merry Christmas to you all from sunny Southern California!

It’s a wonderful tradition to decorate the tree together, we always loved it with our boys ( now men ). I’ve kept all the decks they made at school as children too.
