As a newcomer to tennis at 30yo I find your videos really insightful in a way that doesn’t detriment natural growth but encourage learning from different storys. I’ve competed at a pro level in 2 other sports but tennis is a different kettle of fish in terms of progression and involvement, and I hope to have the level of competence to come back to this comment 2 years from now and be able to say “I’ve got what is needed to be a respectable player” overall.
He’s not “a victim of his own success”. He’s a victim of his own volatility. He would also benefit greatly if his accompanying parent did not interfere with his coaching. That’s what coaches are paid to do.
At one point I also though Seb Korda alongwith Rune, Alcaraz and Sinner will be the new big 4. Today, I can't even imagine taking the names of other 2 in the same league as Alcaraz and Sinner....
In my opinium, we need players like Rune playing tennis. He was too hyped in 22-23, and i believe that was too hard for him mentally. He will get there by time. His game is improving a lot lately, and i love watching him being a threat to other players!
Please do a deep dive into seb Korda. He’s got incredible ground strokes, a good serve, and good hands. It seems weird he hasn’t exploded yet. He’s got an incredibly smooth game that’s very entertaining.
His forehand isn't a natural shot, though it can be great when it clicks. But already there are a lot of players coming through who are hitting huge. Draper, Fils etc. It's going to get a lot harder to compete at the top.
Great analysis. Victim of his early success, give the guy sometime to mature, thats alot of pressure for a very young man. I wish him the best. Personally I would like to see his mother relinquish control, but like you said parent/coach relationships are extremely complicated
Also. It’s hard for every player to mentally have to deal with the fact that sinner is still allowed to play. Every person who lost to that cheater I am sure feels sick about their tennis and what could or SHOULD have been.
Holger is so hard to root for, it’s so easy to kinda get into his bratty annoying attitude when he’s winning, but it’s so easy to hate it when he’s losing.
Obv their attitudes are very diffrent but I’m having problems rooting for ruud at the moment aswell, he seems so fine with loosing every important match he plays. Yes it’s nice how kind he is and stuff, but he needs to have an attitude more like runes where he actually shows that he cares about his matches, and he really needs to get a new coach, that’s what brought sinner to a new level aswell
The day Rune practices restraint it will be game over for everybody. At this moment he is too volatile and like you said, impatient. That is his biggest issue.
Rune is very talented and in the league of sinner and alcaraz , he is just not there mentally and the problem with coaching , he should stick to one coach and try to be consistent.
He’s getting the same treatment that shapo got where everyone says that they are the next big thing and then when they don’t perform everyone gets confused. What I’m trying to say is people should stop thrusting these expectations on people cause then they might crumble in the eye of expectation.
I think that, in addition to keeping a long term relation with Christensen as the base coach, a sports psychologist needs to be added permanently to the team. The guy needs a much better management of emotions during matches. This will help with shot selection, concentration, patiencd in and off the court... Is the mental part that needs to be tackled for him to be able to bring all his potential
He will probably be in the top5 for a while, but it is just his personality when it comes to why people are doubting on him. Because, Alcaraz and Sinner had 'grown up' so fast, and Rune should manage how to act like a mature tennis player. He is a huge potential, but still he will come nowhere as close as Alcaraz and Sinner in the future
Rune will get outpaced by his generation at this rate. Fils, Shelton, Musetti, Draper are nearly there and you definitely take them over Rune in any big match.
Can you please make a video on Tomic? And what your thoughts are about his comeback? His future? Do you see him making the top 100 in the world again? Top 50? Thanks.
For me, his technique looked like an overachieving junior player. Meaning swinging big and having good matchups. I think he is 80 ATP at best. That is ok, I still do not see him in control of any matches.
Getting rid of that snake oil salesman Mouratoglou and maybe his mother would be a good start. Hire a proper coach like Rick Macci or Brad Gilbert and listen what they have to say. Do not fire them after 2 months. And then he should figure out what his gameplan is, defence oriented like Murray, solid baseliner like Djokovic or aggressive like Federer? Kinda reminds me of Tsitsipas tbh, solid work ethic , but too fixated on his family ( mother in this case), his FH and return of serve are weaknesses and just talent is not gonna make up for it.
he's a soft spoken boy off the court, but shown rather ill manner on the court if he's losing.watched him play a few matches all notice he has physicality issue, still my second favourite Scandinavian in tennis😅
Although I find he has improved on court! Like his discussions with umpires are usually polite, especially compared to others. Also my second favorite Scandi player, super sweet off court, I hope he can do great things, he is still so young.
Bo Madsen rejoins Mew before we see Rune win any Masters 1000 title again. He's way too soft in the head and waved the white flag against Arthur Fils at Hamburg without even getting injured.
I think Rune should have a chat with Novak. Looks like only he can help this immensely talented player. IMO he is in the league of Alcaraz and Sinner, gamewise.
I wish Holger well, but I hope he doesn’t become the future of tennis unless he matures more as a person. I just don’t think he has the right attitude and ethical backbone to become a true champion or role model. Both Holger and Stefanos strike me as being quite similar in this regard: incredibly talented, hardworking, and ambitious, but flawed in their character and lacking kindness, humility, and solidarity. To put it bluntly, I just don’t get the sense that either of them are fundamentally good people. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not psychopaths and, obviously, they’re both well travelled and socially competent, but if you’ve ever seen interviews with Stefanos’ father or Holger’s Mom, Aneke, you’ll probably have picked up, as I did, on something uncomfortable and unconscientious about their personalities which seems to have been passed onto their children. Anyhow, I don’t expect Holger to reach his potential as a tennis player. I do, however, expect him to do very well in real estate once he’s retired.
Ur analysis is completely off becus u dont know the real reason, which is that he has been giving back all the gifts he was given in his breakthrough year like all the fake victories in his Paris win in 2021. Ochram razor. Dont invent complicated explanations when there is a simple one that also happens to be true. In 2025 he will again be allowed to play his best which he will do in the masters and slams. In the smaller tournaments he will continue to tank just like all the other top players. Ur welcome!
