As one who's owned a number of Rats over the years, I think this actually sounds better. It's got all the grit and grind with more bite and more clarity. Extremely impressed.
I sincerely hope that Sonicake wont follow Donner's path in terms of using your vids all around :) Love your vids, you've made some truly amazing progress in terms of content quality over the years - and the early stuff was awesome already! Rock on Shane, greets for lefty community in Poland :)
Thanks for the kind words. I am always trying to make the videos better if I can :). I don't mind companies using my videos if they ask or organise it with me ahead of time. When they just download videos without asking and re-edit them to make you look like you are the face of their company, that's not cool. :) Rock on mate.
Donner actually has some decent pedals now. Seems like they're trying to step out of the "we just clone other pedals" and are now making pedals of their own design. Some of them being quite good, TBH. The Island Delay pedal and the other stereo delay pedal they have that's basically 2 delays in one pedal, each running to one channel of the "stereo" setting.
Not my cup of tea, but love the jam! I own couple of Sonicake pedals and they are well built and sound great. Cool video Shane and it was cool to see the Mendiola!! Cheers!
Really enjoy these "gear on a budget" pedals. With literally tons of them out there, it's good to see honest reviews on them along with hearing some great blues tones at the same time. I've found what I needed for my muddy at low volumes Epi in a Belcat Blues Drive pedal that really brings the lost treble back. I can't crank it up, but I do want good tone, so thanks for these videos!
I know this is a sponsored video and I normally dislike distortion pedals. However, I just bought this one ! My first distortion pedal. Awesome sound, of course it's probably your teriffic playing Shane. Thanks for the direct link. Blues On....💙 PS I do own a Keely mod Boss BD-2 but that's really not a distortion pedal.
I have Soniccake Twiggy blues 4 in 1 and Fazycream fuzz, both good quality for the price imo. I use the Twiggy blues with my 10 watt Vox pathfinder to give it a usuable overdrive, reverb delay and compression. Great low volume practice setup for 200 canadian dollars. I have been debating a RAT, an actual Proco is only 90 bucks though, not gonna break the bank itself.
Sounds great Shane. I have a pedal from another brand that seems to be exactly like this one under another name. Hopefully Sonicake are a better behaved company and will be a good alternative to the other brand that I will no longer support.
Double that out here according to the link, (plus shipping? didn't check). At $40...you simply can't go wrong. At $80 there are cheaper alternatives and known brands starting at not all that much more, so it's a different proposition here. Given it comes from China, I don't think there should be double+ price difference. That certainly well exceeds the exchange rate and obviously nothing to do with shipping. On that basis alone, if I was after a cheap pedal, (which I'm not), I'd look at cheaper variants. After all there's nothing secret about the circuit and they get churned out from these factories at very little cost.
Great review man. The thing I love about inexpensive clones is that even though they may not sound exactly like the original, they’re usually close enough that you can experiment to see what sound/color on your signal you like without breaking the bank. And, even if you did purchase an original, what are the odds that it will sound exactly the same from rig to rig anyways?? ✌🏻🎸🎶
LOL, I picked up a Sonicake Rockstage 4 in 1 from a local CashConverters real cheap. Really well built and is a cool unit plugged into a practice amp to just switch on and play. They're built like a brick dunny 😉 Great value cheers
Sounds great both at low and high gain, it has great sustain too. It sounds different than my JHS 3 Series Distortion though, which is based on The Rat. I don't know which one is based on which RAT but both sound great.
Did you open it up Shane? Pretty sure the word Mooer will be on the board. Not a bad thing though as the Mooer Black Secret is an excellent rat clone for the money. Still, it’s hilarious that there’s so many mini rat clones all using the Mooer board.
For shits and giggles, I just purchased this pedal from Sonicake for 28.00 US dollars! 39.99 minus 11% discount. I don't need this pedal but a discussion with another subscriber about cost in his area is significantly different.
@@texasbootlegger3752 Haha...and I'd likely buy it also for the heck of it for $30. Who knows just the small footprint may be a reason to find its way onto my board. Nice score. 😎 👆
I followed the UK link but the Rude Mouse wasn't there, other Sonicake pedals were though. I found the Rude Mouse on Sonicake's British eBay Shop though. I'm guessing it won't be too different from the Mooer Black Secret ? Another good budget option.
I’m guessing it is identical with the word “Mooer” on the board. There’s a bunch of Mooer clones (which is a rat clone itself of course hahaha) from these Chinese brands all using the Mooer board.
This video made me get one of these! And... unfortunately I'm entirely new to guitar and tried setting this up but couldn't even get it to turn on. Since it did not come with the 9v plug I used one I had a home... But it still won't turn on to matter what I press or do~ anyone with similar issues that could help me?
This or the even cheaper Dolomo D-11 that has one extra setting? The only Sonicake I have is the Dimension 5 multi-modulation pedal. I agree it seems to be built well ... but it's soooooo small that it's hard for me to move the controls. And forget about using my old eyes to read the scripts for the functions.
Dave gilmore uses the rat pedal , I don't think you'd get the same tones on this pedal at all , maybe better sticking to the rat if your after that sort of tone
