It still works...if you knock it right! (An Evening with the RF-3100) In this episode, I pull my Panasonic RF-3100 out of storage. It works...but just barely, it seems.
Dried out electrolytic capacitors in the AC power filter section. Find the power transformer and the wires coming out should run to a board or a section of the board that contain the circuit your looking for. Check for swollen capacitors and replace those first. If none are found then replace them all in that section. That static is also due to aged capacitors. It's age deserves a total recap. I recently aquired this same model and I'm currently working up the doodah to do a recap job on it along with a few other vintage radios in my collection. In the mean time you might get better performance by running it from DC power. 73
A huge part of the joy of watching your channel is the search. Not finding anything isn't a problem - the journey and your enjoyment of it is the best bit.
Hello. Probably late to the party as this video is 9 months old. But Mikes Radio Repair in PA a youtuber would be my choice especially as he is in your general neck of the woods. I emailed him once and he responded quickly.
Hello Dear Radio Friend, Thanks for sharing your video, I have a little Vintage Collection too, it's very nice. What is antenna of RF-3100 Pse ? 73's, to you from F-15413 Bernard & SWL Flamby in JN38IT little and beautiful City of Dieuze France. See you soon, Bye !
made it. my Realistic DX-440 has promptly kicked the bucket after my very first foray into SW. the cheapo D cells i'd put in it looked crispy when i took them out - i suspect they fried its guts. no more antiques for me. i'm getting a new device. (i'll still find a way to destroy it, but it'll be less sad.)
Have you watched Jordan Pier on here? He repairs radios. I'm wondering if the vacuum sucked dust into any mechanical pieces and that's why it sounds more crackly now.
Nice radio! Good to see you RD! I repair my own radios but don't usually have time to fix other people's stuff. Having said that, I'd be happy to help you try to troubleshoot and repair that radio yourself. Feel free to DM or email me if you'd like to chat about it. I'm guessing you might just have a bad solder joint someplace.
