Thanks, I should add there are many similarities to "planet of the vampires" by Mario bava too, the ship designs, alien signals, giant alien skeletons, lots of stuff!!❤

Ridley Scott forgot to mention the visual style of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" for certain scenes. "Alien" owes to a lot of different films. "Alien" is a sci-fi/horror masterpiece and "It! The Terror From Beyond Space" is a fun 1950's sci-fi B movie classic. Enjoyed this video and love both of these films. Thanks!

IT the Terror from Beyond Space and The Thing from Another World are 2 of my favorite 50s sci fi movies. Didn't realize till much later that Alien was inspired by the 2 classic sci fi movies of the 50s. One if the actors in It was Dabs Greer he was in everything from The Adventures of Superman to The Green Mile as the older version of Tom Hanks character.

@worry2much Thank you so much for your comment. I never put it together that the actor that portrayed an older version of Tom Hanks in the green mile was in the Adventures of Superman. That's some great Movie/TV trivia. I watched the Adventures of Superman all he time when I was a kid. Thank you for that nugget of wisdom, thats very interesting. Nice work. Glad you bring up VOYAGE OF THE SPACE BEAGLE. It surely influenced O'Bannon and the writers of IT! You were 9 when you first saw ALIEN? I was quite a bit older and it scared me so much, I went back two more times in one week to see it again. ALIEN remains one of my top favorites. (By the way "The Necronomicon" (Necro: Dead, Nomicon: name, was invented by H.P. Lovecraft)

@jaymacintyre1777 Thank you for your comment it is greatly appreciated. Yes sir, I was 9 when I first saw Alien, and I had mentioned the Jump Scare Scene from Alien in this video. And that was no joke for me. The first time I saw that I jumped right out of my seat. And later, even though you know its coming, I still get surprised by it. Personally, I never read The Space Beagle. I did read through the plot and synopsis when I was making this video and it seems like a book I would really enjoy. I talk about movies and TV shows a lot on this channel, but every now and then there is a book that bridges the gap, especially for this specific video, that needs to be incorporated or you wind up leaving a big hole in your research. I did something similar on my "Top 10 1950s Part 2" video where I brought up the book "After Worlds Collide" as the sequel to "When Worlds Collide". It is a true sequel, but it was never made into a movie. So that gap had to be filled with the book version. That would have been a great movie had it been made. Thank you so much for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a great day. Mike

@rikspector Rik, welcome back to the channel my friend, and as always thank you so much for your comment and your continued support of our channel. I hadn't seen "IT" in years, so a couple of days before I started making this video I sat down and watched it again. And for me, that movie is still fun, and a great movie to fill up 1 hour and 6 minutes of a rainy afternoon. The movie is actually pretty short, but for being short, it keeps you going. Check it out if you get the chance. I'm not sure if its on RU-vid, I would suspect it is. I know for sure you can rent it on Amazon Prime. As far as the Alien franchise goes, for me Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986) are the hallmarks of the franchise. The Alien movies, in my opinion, have never reached the level of horror they did in Alien, and the level of action the they did in Aliens. That's why I'm pretty excited for the upcoming Alien Romulus, and the idea of getting back to the Alien roots. Also, we just launched a second Sci-Fi and More channel to follow movie news, general Sci-Fi News, and events involving Sci-Fi. We call the channel, the "Cosmic Corps Chronicle", I've attached the link below. I only have a couple of videos there currently, but I only launched it yesterday. The face of "IT!" reminded me of the face of a vampire bat. Parts (especially the tail) of the xenomorph in "Alien" brought to my mind of fossilized dinosaur bones. When I first heard the story behind "Alien," I thought, "Okay, the story was borrowed from "IT! The Terror from Beyond Space." That was alright by me. I liked both films. Thanks, Scifi and More.

@denverprator5806 Thank you for your comment, and we hope you enjoyed our video. There is a lot of truth to that statement. And it's not unique to Sci-Fi. I mean if you think about it, there are really only so many stories you can tell before you are "Taking or Copying" something that has already been done and putting your spin or your story to that particular idea. Me personally, I'm all for it, so long as it is done well. If people were so hung up on ideas being recycled by numerous movie makes, screenplays and artists, we would have a mere fraction of the Sci-Fi movies we have today. Excellent comment. Again thank you, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi coming soon. Have a great day. Mike

I was terrorized and traumatized as I watched "It The Terror From Beyond Space" ...at 6 years old in 1965... ...then thrilled reading about "Beowulf And Grendel" and "Theseus And The Minotaur" myths... ...during my tweens and early teens... ...found the Giger album cover for Emmerson, Lake, and Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" unsettling (as a dumb kid skipping off to get high in the afternoon)... ...and was totally blown away by "Alien", watching in the theatres at 20 yrs old... ...reminding me that no matter how "grown up" I thought I'd become... ...a well done horror movie still has the power to shock and traumatize, no matter grown we like to think we are. LOL🤣

@GordonBeckles Thank you for your comment, and I hope you enjoyed our video. I totally forgot about the ELP Giger Album cover, and your right that album cover is unsettling. I had not seen "IT" in years, so a couple of days before I made this video I rewatched it just so I could be thorough and I have to say, watching that movie in my 50's today was still just as great as the first time I saw it. If your a fan of that movie I feel like it will always be near and dear for fans, even though it hasn't really aged well. My mom took me to see Alien when I was 11. I loved everything about it. That also doesn't seem so bad when you consider she took me to The Exorcist when I was 5. I really like Edward Cahn's "It", but my favorite of his would have to be Invasion of the Saucer Men. It came with extra cheese... :) I was going to go to bat for Dan O'Bannon here, but someone already beat me to it on the thread it seems. @indyspotes3310 Welcome back to the channel my friend, and as always thank you for your comments, they are greatly appreciated. Invasion of the Saucer Men was just a fun movie. That is an interesting one though. Depending on who you talk to, people either love it or hate it. I just think its fun to watch. There was so much that I could have added regarding Dan O'Bannon in this video, but you start to get pressed against the wall for time. A lot of my videos are 25-35 minutes long. Far longer than most attention spans. So you have to cut corners I guess. But not to the point that you that you damage the research that you have in it. I would rather leave something out, in place of having false facts. And I'm not perfect, nor am I a professional film maker. I just enjoy Sci-Fi, and making these videos just because I'm a fan. In Voyage of the Space Beagle , it is a creature later in the story called Ixtl which resembles the alien story more; including the business with the eggs. Coeurl is more like the salt vampire from star trek, if anything - only instead of salt it needs potassium (phosphorous in the original story Black Destroyer).

You give entirely too much credit to Scott, it was Dan O'Bannon Ronald Shusett who drove the story and look of the film. O'Bannon hired Ron Cobb, french artist Jean Giraud (Mobius) and who brought HR Geiger to the attention of Scott to create the look of not only the Alien, the derelict and the LV-426 planetoid, which in the original version was a dying plant with a dead ancient civilization. As they struggled to come up with the look for what would later be dubbed the Xenomorph, O'Bannon who had worked on a unproduced Dune film with Geiger and had fallen in love with his work, took a copy of the Necronomicon to Scott to show him what it should look like.

IT!, Alien, and The Thing are all movies thrown on top of the same skeleton. I've examined them many times and find the similarities are too great to ignore. And that's ok! Writers since the dawn of the written word have used other writers as inspiration for their work, and when they come up with something spectacular, it works! It doesn't work if they lack talent or do a blatant ripoff, and audiences generally know it.
@scifiandmore

@NathanTarantlawriter Thank you for your comment it is greatly appreciated. I absolutely agree with your assessment, and in fact I just replied to another similar comment regarding this subject, and I am all for the reutilization of ideas if they are done properly and proper thought has been put into them to make something unique. I had done a three part series on Battlestar Galactica, and in that series I pointed out the 2oth Century Fox/George Lucas lawsuit against Battlestar Galactica for plagiarism and stealing ideas from Star Wars to use n Battlestar Galactica. In that particular case, and this is the best description I had ever hear regarding this idea of alleged reused ideas, was that the court had ruled in the initial ruling that there was no plagiarism or stealing of ideas because the premiss for both franchises fell under the "Intellectual Abstract" and it is in fact that "Abstract" that could be show going back to the 1930's with the old Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials. I love that your dad took you to see Alien. My mum took me to see that and The Incredible Melting Man. She knew they were a bit too 'old' for me, but she had a very open mind for such things as that👽🤖🪐

@jonathanmartin-ives8665 Thank you for your comment. Thats great that your Mom took you to see Alien. My mom was not a big movie goer. I think the last movie I saw with my mom was Herbie Goes Bananas in 1980. A long time ago. But my father and I would watch the original Star Trek series in the early 1970's on this little beat up old black and white television, and that, more than anything else, is probably what got me hooked on Science Fiction. Well that, and then Star Wars, Star Trek the motion picture, Alien, Planet of the Apes, Space 1999, the Six Million Dollar Man, literally everything science fiction that Glen Larson put together in the 70's-80's. So I was at the right age to be brainwashed by all the science fiction bombarding me, lol. But I loved it and still do. I actually just found the 1979 Flash Gordon Cartoon I used to watch when I was a kid and watched a couple of the episodes just to be nostalgic. It is still fun to watch even in my 50's, lol. Again, thank you for your comment, it is greatly appreciated. And stay tuned, there is more Sci-Fi on the way. Have a great day. Mike
