In my opinion, they got the core rules right when they first released the MESBG. It's just been polishing a gem since then.

I think the evil side of the box is the only let down for me - if the orcs had been some warg riders and Mordor orcs, I’d have ordered this already. Two reasons - remove the crossover with Pelennor fields box - more cavalry in the box would be a good thing from a rule-learning perspective. I’m a big fan of getting proper terrain in a starter box though - even reducing the model count to make room for it, it makes the box so much more useful as a beginner.

Super exciting! This game deserves more love from GW (more redesigned plastic minis would be perfect). More youtube coverage could help push GW in that direction.

No it wouldn't. It doesn't sell enough. That's why every single fucking 40k release space marines get a whole slew of new miniatures, books, and re-dos. It's why they redesigned fantasy into AoS as a new game - FAntasy made them no money.

@@BenjisHobbies not yet. I was going to wait for the Christmas release, but didn't think they'd start shipping so early. I have painted up my old Gothmogs, some morannons and the old Osgiliath terrain in anticipation however! Working on a troll ATM 😂

Defo a great starter set. Can’t wait to get my hands on it! as an existing sbg player even though I have a ton of Gondor but always wanted to have a city based themed Gondor army 😅

I’ve got a pretty big city based Minas Tirith army, so I’m either going to do these as Ithilien based warriors, or maybe a more ruined city 😊 Always nice to have some extra minis 😊

I cant wait for my copy. I ordered from imps gaming and have no delivery details as of yet (I’m checking 2 times a day haha) But i am absolutely amazed with this box. It got so much stick for not been worth it cos you got like 17 less models but the terrain massively makes up for it. Assuming the ruin kit will be the same as a rohan house (1 of each sprue side) for the same price) this box is amazing value and I will be buying a second like I did pelennor!

Absolutely! Four sprues of terrain is a LOT of plastic and personally I’d prefer to have some terrain rather than extra models in a ‘starter’ box. Terrain is definitely undervalued!

@@BenjisHobbies I finally got my set two days ago and am so happy with the terrain in person. Will be building it tonight I think 😬 More models we all already have for a starter set isn’t great imo. For a new player there is just enough to start a decent army and the booklet scenarios are perfect for new players from what i can see.

Need to try MESBG intesifies !!! But I can't for now, I said to myself I'd finish painting my Dwarves and Space Marines before tackling my Gondorians et Uruk Haï. So they will have to wait a little more.

If I didn't already have the Pellenor Field box, I would be very interested in one of these new boxes. But I think I have enough orcs and enough men of Rohan, so Osgiliath, Mordor, and Rohan boxes are kinda redundant.

only bad thing about mesbg is the Fight, if you have somebody who rolls above average they will always beat most players. because the above average roller will get to attack while the other player just has to stand there and die.

I mean, that could be said of any game though! If you roll above average then chances are you’re likely to win! Do you mean in relation to the higher fight value? Then yes, that’s true as you’ll win on ties, but chances are you’ll have more warriors in the fight as they’re cheaper to field.

@@BenjisHobbies i agree but lets say i play goblins its great that i can put 3 goblins on one of his guys. but all he has to do is roll a 6 and all 3 of my guys dont get to swing. thats 24 points of models that dont get to swing all because a 10 point model rolled a six. if fight phase was more like 40k the game would be a masterpiece.

I think that when you look at it purely in isolation like that then yes, it does feel a bit broken. However as soon as you add in things like banner re-rolls, spear supports, trapping etc it becomes a very different game than just the 1v1 (or 1v3) as in your example. Realistically though, that elf isn’t always going to roll a 6, so being trapped by 3 goblins isn’t a great place to be for that elf!

Please clarify a couple of points if you don’t mind. Is the hardback rule book included? I initially thought the other, soft back, book shown was the version included in the box but this appears to include only scenarios, unless I missed something. I’m also trying to work out why you said GW have “finally got the rules right after 20 years” if they haven’t changed. To my mind that suggests they didn’t need changing, in which case they’d already got them right.

It includes both the hardback rules AND the scenario and profile book. They’ve changed them slightly from the last edition, incorporating all of the minor changes and FAQs from the last four years, so essentially they’ve refined the last rulebook to make this one, so this is finally the ‘ultimate’ version of the rules - a culmination of 20 years of refinements!

At the moment, no. They took pre-orders which have been sent out but it’s not had an ‘official’ release yet.

@@xagric1840 honestly, you can’t go far wrong with this box. All the rules you’ll need to start, plus two decent starter armies plus some terrain in the box. Have a run through the first four scenarios and it’ll give you a good flavour of the game.
