I am painting a fan art painting of Queen Amidala from The Phantom Menace. I'm using the method of drawing on the canvas directly and then spraying the canvas with a sealant and then paint over the drawing. This is something I learned from Cesar Santos.

You’ve got me in tears dear man. You are a gift. Your gift is a gift. I appreciate that you recognize the “old masters” (whatever that truly means), but more moved by what you personally have within you to offer the world and in the way you view and experience it. Capturing that is really all that matters. Absolutely stunning!

This is one of your best paintings, it is so YOU! It is your style, your eye for beauty and appreciation of the subject, your exquisite use of color and light, etc... Andrew, YOU are a modern master, so many of us agree with that fact. I want to learn to paint in the painterly realistic way that you do, not the old masters. Every thing you produce is breathtaking. I feel so fortunate to have found you and so thankful that you are sharing your gift with us. You are a diamond! : )

You had me in tears. I used to live in NZ when I was in my early teens and, sadly, have never been back. I became a painter when I was older and must say I really felt every brush mark you laid down. I would consider you a ‘New’ Master. Your journey. Love your painting and have subscribed.

Thanks for sharing. I haven't painted in a while for that very reason...too focused on the end outcome. My paintings aren't selling and I got so discouraged. However, when I forget about all that and just pai t what I want to, I am so much more fulfilled. These cids always seem to pop up at the right time to let me hear what I need to hear. Thank you for that.

I thank You, Andrew, every time I watch a video of Yours. You never fail to inspire. Your heart and mind combined is a beautiful painting itself. You also inspired me to make a palette table on wheels, very similar to the one you have. Thank you for that. I pray that you are in good health. This dark world needs your light. A really valuable message thank you Andrew. My tiny studio is my happy place, and right now I am painting flowers in acrylics, in my own style. Revamping and finishing a painting I began 7 years ago. 9 years ago, my brother died - he was my painting buddy and a superb, visionary artist with flowers, both realism and abstract. I miss him sorely, and have learned much from his paintings, but I still have my own style. Your Video has come at a special time for me and helped hugely. Today is the 9th anniversary of my Mum's death as well (my brother died in December 9 yrs ago) My Mum was also an excellent water color artist and loved critiquing my work. Thank you for continuing to share your experience and thoughts with us. Note, that I also do seascapes and landscapes - photo realistic.

I am reminded of my art teacher’s message to me: “detail adds interest!” For me, the best successes are when your vision can match your application. That is the ghost I’ve always chased. And there is, sometimes your vision does evolve within the composition. It is all about the journey. It can take you to new and exciting places. Another lesson from my teacher, “Paint what you see.” That in itself can be the hardest lesson.

Hi Andrew. I am en Plein air artist for many years. I always enjoy watching your videos. I learned this same lesson many years ago. I just relay the lesson to my students in a different way. I tell them if you always try to paint a masterpiece, you will never paint one. I also tell them that I am a plein air artist, because of two reasons. One is I love to be in the great outdoors. The other reason is I love to paint. If I get a great painting it is a bonus! If you think this way you will always keep growing as an artist, and maybe paint your masterpiece.

This was a special video for me. I get down on myself for being a slow, meticulous painter. Try as I might, I can’t paint loose. I do give up when I feel I have overworked it. I also grew up with Herefords and spent many lazy summer days under the trees with them. They are gentle and beautiful, and worthy of painting. I loved watching these come to life.

Andrew, all the way through art school in the 90s, the instructers hounded me over being too tight, being too representational, and even painting, which they said was a dead art form. When came across you, I immediately thought, that is how I dream to paint, and I am getting better every day, but I can just be the artist I am, but growing all the time. Each of the brush strokes you make. Are we learning experience for me. I'm fighting with a painting now, what you have said has been a great reminder. Thanks

With some who dabble in art, its about the outcome, because the mindset has become a race to the finish. When we see a near completed painting, and we sense an immaculate work of art, the anxious artists oft at times kicks in.

This painting turned out really great - especially after your changes. The play of light and shadow makes it beautiful. In my opinion you achieve this mostly with the details like single blades of grass while the old masters you are referring to might be doing this on a bigger scale.

The finished work is simply beautiful; I'm so glad you didn't give up on it....I cannot tell you how much I needed this video and these reminders. I think your thoughts on this are absolutely key to being authentic as an artist and to have that joy, but it's so easy to get caught up in extraneous "stuff," and that does finally suck the happiness out of the process. I sincerely thank you, Andrew.

Recently, I ran from a painting and hid from it for three days! I was getting up the grit to start from scratch…but when I returned…it was fine! Just that awkward stage and my up tight self criticism, I thought. But, during this inspirational video from you, I recognized some of the same self talk and comparisons that were truly the root issues. My goal is to become a professional painter, and when I sell my first one, you’re on my list to send some specie as tangible gratitude for the many solid tips and saved videos from you. Warm thanks in the meantime! J

I love your art Andrew! I do mostly digital art these days, but i would love to gest back to traditional and oils. You are HUUGE inspiration to me, and also reason i got into art in the first place! I cant wait to join your patreon and learn!!♥️♥️😍
