Thing with Caicedo is he does best under pressure and in tight spaces. He's best in areas where he can draw in a defender or two and release the ball forward with a one touch or 2 touch pass. He's ability to turn is quite good as well. The reason Gallagher protecting Caicedo works is because he has the freedom to put himself in dangerous situations without getting caught cause he knew with enzo if he losses the ball we weren't getting it back 😂
And Enzo being a liability A midfield pivot is meant to protect each other just like Gallagher and Caicedo do Mark together Understand each others strengths and weaknesses and cover for each other But Enzo don’t mark He’s a star boy who just stroll around when not with the ball Leave everything for Caicedo to do Enzo is a liability that needs to be addressed
I truly believe that poch should be given more time. He has been performing well against the top clubs and most of the goals we conceded have been due to errors as well. Getting a new manager would be going through all the shit again. The way poch admires the players and the club should be appreciated as well. Give him some time and with the team we actually will have if everyone is fit he will be lethal
Poch is good at developing players. However he's not someone who'll bring results. In many games, his ingame management is questionnable. He's also too stubborn regarding some players. And at the end of the day, football is all about results, not about he tends to play well against big teams. What about the remaining other 12 to 15 teams of the league? We have to not only bring in someone who can develop youngsters, but also someone who is proactive enough during games.
I believe Gallagher and Enzo's best position is in a flat 433 , In Benfica and Palace they used to play the same and did amazing but given we play 4231 Both Galli and Enzo are not suited for no. 10 so pivot it is and Gallagher has done much better than Enzo.
BENSON! Guess what mate😂? We are comfortably top 4 this season on the XG table. That does mean something - it means that Poch has set us us well, we're just lacking with finishing in a lot of games. Especially earlier this season. Give it time
I was at the Brighton game in Philly last summer, everything you said about the tactics and speed at which we played was amazing. Despite the results and challenges to keep clean sheets this season, the one big praise has been how much we’ve improved going forward compared to even the “glory days” of just a few years ago when Jorginho was our top scorer for like 2 seasons straight💀
You have to say Enzo has been protected a lot this season. Gallagher and caicedo are far better together. I think this should be our base going into next season. Enzo needs to earn that shirt back for me he shouldn’t just be given it for his price tag
I agree there... But I would also like to see a Gallagher Enzo pivot and see how Enzo performs... Coz I remember in the 1st 3 matches before Caicedo, Enzo was playing well there and was even Man Of The Match against Liverpool... So it may just be that Caicedo and Enzo can't just play together and it ain't really any one of them's fault

If they play together, one will have to suffer for one to flourish but when played with Gallagher, he has the legs to cover for them and sit for them to join the attack. I think this has more to do with the types of players that have been on the field. When you have fullbacks like gusto and chilwell on the pitch with wingers like palmer and sterling, your wingers tend to cut inside and the fullbacks bomb down the pitch to hold the width and also cross into the box. However, you usually only push up with the fullbacks on one side at a time. When cucu and gusto were playing, you can see Poch was trying to continue this method but that is not cucurella's strength so often the attack would go down gusto's side. Now that gusto is out, we have shifted to holding the width with the wingers, sitting Gallagher and Palmer in the channels, inverting cucu to be a double pivot with Caicedo, and shifting to back three which suits Gilchrist is who a natural center back. Also, this allows Gallagher to push further up and press from the front without leaving Caicedo as the lone pivot. With the players we have currently available, this plays to everyone's strengths for the most part and that is why we are getting results. I think once Gusto is fit though, Poch will go back to pushing up the right side because gusto is amazing at it. Unfortunately, it will leave the midfield open again because Gallagher will still go forward to press from the front and Cucurella will have to shift to form a back three instead of inverting as part of a double pivot.

I've expected you to talk about that, didn't you see when Jackson should assisted Palmer and when Jackson scored the header Palmer didn't celebrate. We can’t forget that pep was gunning for cucu, he’s a la masia graduate. Played higher up and in the middle while at getafe, played lcb of a back 3 at times for brighton. He is incredibly versatile and played well last season until he got tonsillitis if my memory serves correct, lost weight and looked off the pace. But my point is that if pep wanted him he obviously had a plan to develop him, who’s to say he wasn’t planning to play him in the same areas as he’s playing now. I love chillwell, but if we aren’t going to proceed with a back 5 I would sell him and do everything in our power to convince maatsen to fight for a place in this youth revolution! COYB
Benson, it would have taken you never to realize this. Don’t you think if cuceralla was fit throughout the season, his inverted role would have been found out earlier? The thing is we are improving, which is what we all wanted to see. Bring back nkunku, James, lavia, Colwell, fofana, omari Hutchison, and a top attacker and goalkeeper and we will have champions league again next season.
Pochettino made some subtle adjustments: Primarily played with 3 CB's. Used the energy and speed of the inverted Cucurella and an inside left shifted to center right Mudryk. Not wide but closer to the action. Mudryk initially helped with some defending. He had a strong first half especially the first 15 mins. But unnecessary dribbling and turnovers let him down. When we moved the ball quickly without too many touches, we looked fluid and dangerous. Biggest surprise was Madueke helping Gilchrist to manage Son/Johnson. Once again most of our threats were from the right side. As Cucurella and Mudryk shifted over, squeezing the spaces. Tottenham had several good opportunities in the box from crosses but failed to capitalize. They stepped their game up in the second half. Threw them off canter with our second goal. Palmer showed his on ball intelligence, knowing when to link up, dribble, pass, shoot, slow the game down, change direction. Chalobah heading in from a cross and Jackson fastest to react to a pinged free kick rebound to header home. Whole team effort fir the shutout. Great for the subs: Gilchrist, Casadei, Acheampong, Taurianinen. Taste of victory, London derby rivalry.

Best feel of the season yesterday. To get a result, we did not need a last minute miracle (ManU at the Bridge), individual heroics (both games against City), a conglomerate of favorable circumstances (first game against Spurs), initial luck followed by the opponents' collapse (6:0 against Everton). No, this was a convincing victory of a team decimated with injuries, with a half of the players in starting lineup who have not had a regular game time during the season by any means. A team which, against all odds, produced determination, focus, tactical discipline, bravery, a collective will to win. Unlike the mentioned cases, this is repeatable. Yes, the boys looked a bit disjointed in a period of the second half, under the intensified high press by Spurs. But so did Arsenal a week ago, and they conceded two goals.
I really want the club to give poch time, the thing is chelsea we are never patient yet we were all here laughing at arsenal with mikel arteta when he was given even more time by signing him a new contract now here we are they are competing fot the Title, we really need to be patient.
Enzo tends to hold onto the ball too long and disrupts the momentum. And the reason he played through the pain is because he’s insecure of losing his place to another, if he wasn’t Argentinian like the gaffer he would be coming off the bench in many games
The reason Caicedo can't play his best is because he plays well in tight spaces drawing a defender and making a pass. Not necessarily an attacking mid or even an 8 but a brilliant ball playing deep midfielder similar to Kante at Leicester. With Enzo on the field, he can't put himself in the dangerous positions to succeed because he knows Enzos not gonna win the ball back for him if he loses it. Gallagher will. They suit eachother perfectly and having an amazing attacking mid in Cole palmer just balances everything out
For me Cucu has to play the LDM kind of role , similar to what Trent does. He can be easily disposed by strong wingers if he play as LB. Poch should put his hand on Mudryk shoulder and help him to improve. His man management needs to improve.
Youngest team in Prem (ever?) Injuries mean that almost every game has a different defence playing Lots of new players, new to Chelsea, new to London, New to U.K. Any manager would struggle to achieve success with those three issues. If Poch achieves 1. Chelsea scoring goals again ✔️2. Good cup performances ✔️ 3. European Qualification 🤔 then the season will have been a success despite the issues mentioned above.
@Benson I'd love to see a tier list from you at the end of the season of maybe the top X results/performances on the season vs. The worst. I'm especially interested to see how many of the best results are came later in the season, like this one, versus earlier. You got to admit even though it was at home, this was a better performance than what we eeked out at Tottenham when they were down two men for both the games even though the score line was better then.
To be fair, we all would've sold Cucurella in Jan. Poch has turned him into a Victor Moses like turnaround story. Dont need to be an elite manager to know pace on wings v Spurs high line would trouble them. Want to see more in game formation changes to suit team/opposition.
For me pochettino needs to go because of the loss to Arsenal. he had no business to change the midfield and get an injured enzo in. He should have stuck with mid field of the previous match that is gallagher and caicedo. We have given him enough of chances. If we manage to get amorin I am sorry pouch out.

The one thingI hate about Pochettino is the way he stifles the Brazilian youths. He need to play Washington and let us see for ourselves that he’s not good enough. This is why Man City was interested in Cucu. This is exactly how they play with their back just like they did with Cancelo. Cucu need to be used in that position. And let's admit it, when city is intersted in a player they are very good. Pep know what he does.

I wouldn't credit Mauricio for this, he's only playing this because of injuries, when everyone is fit, Enzo is coming right back. We've all known Caicedo plays better with Gallagher for sometime, it's impossible he hasn't noticed. He'd be criminally incompetent, but maybe because of the price tag he has to play Enzo

This Chelsea team needs a core. Robert Sanchez in goal at the start of the season, Thiago's silva's decline, Caicedo's poor form and lack of a clinical striker has contributed to this season's result. This team needs a new leader at the back, a new Kante and a clinical finisher.
Look, I would support poch to stay if he can win the late 4 games and some how fix the injury problem we have been having. Then stay, do what arsenal did. Try win the club World Cup next season or whatever, just don't give us another bad season

I will support any manager who gives every talented youths a chance no matter the ethnicity. If xabi Alonso was biased in his team selections he wouldn’t have won the bundesliga. This leverkusen team is a deep mixture of players from different cultural backgrounds who seem to support each other on the pitch, I suspect that Chelsea teams is divided into two or three gangs , that’s the reason this team isn’t doing well notice how cucurella and mudryk can’t gel it’s deliberate, then the black guys want to show the white ones that they can deliver the goods and then there’s people like Gallagher and Jackson who are neutral .
