I've worked for Starship for a couple of years now. Usually I mix monitors for the band, but on this particular show, I head the pleasure of doing their FOH mix for the crowd, and it was one of the funnest shows I've gotten to mix with them. Glad you got to enjoy them!
AWESOME!!! I want to see Kool & The Gang myself. Fresh is one of my favorites from them along with a few other that I saw on this video, including Jungle Boogie!!! I saw Starship perform live twice at festivals in Cincy, and I actually got to meet Mickey Thomas and got an autograph CD from him. He was a very nice guy!!! You know, We Built This City gets a lot of hate, now what's up with that???? But at least we love it!!!
x That Kool & The Gang concert looked awesome, very Kool! lol x Really cool you worked at the historical society, that is an awesome buidling! x Two of my favorite music videos of all-time are "We Built This City" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship! o Interestingly there is a point in "We Built This City" where the statue of Abraham Lincoln becomes alive...just like the mannequin coming to life in the music video "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" ! o The largest city named after Abraham Lincoln is Lincoln, Nebraska, whose dollar theater (when it was running) was Star ship. † I went on a first date at Star Ship and we saw Dead Man On Campus, a film that starred doomed freshman Josh Miller.
Very interesting facts, as always! Sounds like you could argue that the "city" in the song is Lincoln, lol! I watched that music video again recently, and there are a few cities in it... Washington D.C. (for the Lincoln statue), Las Vegas, maybe New York City, and of course San Francisco (which most people say is the actual city the song is about.)
@@Our80sLife All of those totally make sense, the images in the video seem to point to that! The Golden Gate Bridge reference is what makes me think of San Francisco.
This is pretty cool. Kool and the Gang was a band that was pretty popular with my family. There was a period of 2-3 years where their song "Cherish" was the wedding song for my extended family. A couple years ago I re-listened to the album with that song and I got turned on to "emergency" after hating the heck out of it LOL EDIT Whoa the audio quality is NIIIIICE! Usually when ppl in the crowd record a concert you can't make out crap. Good job here.
Thank you!! We thought they put on a fantastic show! And thanks for that compliment about the video. We've started using lapel mics for the conversational parts, and it's made a huge difference! The music itself just sounded really good in person, so whoever did their sound should get credit for that.
Hi there! Wish we could, but we won't be able to travel to L.A. for the show. We had a blast at The Lost 80s in Dallas last year... sure wish it was closer to home, sigh. Have fun!!
