The only foreshadowing that showed Itachi was a good guy is that he left Sasuke alive and that he didn't torture Kakashi to death (just an irreversible coma, so even that point is heavily debatable) and that he only took out Kakashi after making sure Asuma and Kurenai could survive against Kisame. But yh, I honestly think it was a retcon and Kishimoto is just trying to save face. The foreshadowing is shit

You're right, I rewatched that fight and became a kurenai defender to. She clearly didn't know about itachi, she's a genjutsu specialist, she successfully threw itachi into genjutsu and what's wild is the broke out of that reverse genjutsu faster than anyone in the series

@@StayingAnti It was just a bad match up 😭 her strongest weapon is genjutsu, she's not an all rounder like Kakashi and Itachi. If you give her a fight against many of the ninja in the show she can dogwalk them with mindfucks. But you can't mindfuck The Mindfucker. And Itachi is one of the best ninja in the series, he's good with weapons, taijutsu, bullshit OP ninjutsu, and has magic genjutsu eyes that even in base form, make the user a genjutsu master. If Kurenai specialised in literally anything else she could've at least held off Itachi for a little like Asuma. But she specialised in the one thing Itachi was just automatically a master of. This was literally the worst matchup of all time. Kurenai would have a better chance fighting Killer Bee than Itachi because at least her specialty will work on him a little. She'll still lose obvs but at least he can't direct counter literally everything in her arsenal

They weren't being mistreated at that point they were just mad no one in the village wanted an Uchiha Hokage because of all the BS Obito/"Madara" and Madara himself committed. By time the 4th came to power they were pretty much being left alone. They had their own district, ran the police force, and lived in peace. The fact they wanted to stage a coup because one Hokage hated Uchiha and the rest just didn't care because they were doing well despite the mistreatment previously. Yeah Fugaku was supposed to be in the running for 4th Hokage according to the Uchiha, but with the bias and ego of the Uchiha I honestly doubt that was ever the case in actuality and they just came up with that to try and get people on their side. But again they were a large well off clan, their interests are not the same interests as the rest of the village. It's like if the Hyuga clan decided to stage a coup. It's a bunch of rich guys in a massive clan with immense power both physical and political crying they don't have more.
