Gaighat is a town in the Udayapur District in the Sagarmatha Zone of southeastern Nepal. It serves as the administrative headquarters of Udayapur District. The town is located near the confluence of the Triyuga and Tawa rivers, in the Inner Terai region of Nepal, which lies between the Chure Hills and the Mahabharat Range.
Gaighat is a growing urban center and is connected to other major towns and cities in Nepal through roads. Agriculture is the primary economic activity, with paddy, maize, wheat, and other crops commonly cultivated. Gaighat also has markets, schools, hospitals, and basic infrastructure, making it a regional hub for surrounding rural areas.
The Triyuga Valley, in which Gaighat is situated, is known for its scenic beauty and is a starting point for exploring other regions like the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. The area reflects a mix of cultural influences, with various ethnic groups residing in the region.
