It has not been long since I have been trying to record video reactions. For me this was the first time that I found myself managing such a strong emotion and I hope that not having censored anything does not pass as a desire to exhibit my emotions (I'm not the type), but as a spontaneous reaction and natural. This is the power of music, which is capable of touching our souls in different and profound ways. I believe it's right not to hide your emotions. Thanks to all, peace, love and rock space.

I really appreciated his reaction because when I watch the movie the first time I literally started sobbing from this song and all the lyrics back. I can hear all the pain and the sadness and saying that you're fine when you're not and all the pressure you feel from your family to be someone great and to live up to the potential they have for you all the other reactions I saw, people just said they like the song and the beat but no one really considered the lyrics or the story because all they were saying was wow she's strong and I feel like that's not the main point. Maybe sad people recognize other sad people i guess fictional or real.

Lin-Manuel Miranda said that the song was inspired on his sister who was the strong one in the family and the pressure she felt at that time because she is the older. An awesome detail is when Luisa (the strong one) see her little sister scared on the red light room everything changes to a light blue and the donkeys make it more “funny or light” for her, so she doesn’t get scared.
@bibliophilelady6106
@bibliophilelady6106 2 года назад
It makes me sad for Luisa that Mirabel seems scared of her at the beginning when she is so considerate of Mirabel's feelings through the whole number. Any sister who can gently fix your glasses while trying to keep domino doors up in a tornado is not going to hurt you for bugging her a little.

@chronosclaimsall 2 года назад
@@bibliophilelady6106 I don't see it as her being scared of Luisa, I think she was scared to see everything that was happening around her and to hear Luisa say all these things that she wasn't aware of before. I mean let's be fair, she came to Luisa with the mindset of "What's wrong with the magic" and was just suddenly thrust into a world of all of Luisa's fears and insecurities. If you mean at the very beginning, where Luisa shouts "Nothing's wrong!" at her, I'm pretty sure Mirabel was just startled because the outburst was just out of nowhere and there was no prior indication that Luisa was upset with her (which she wasn't). After that she was just a bit confused in the first few lines of the song. I don't think Mirabel was ever scared of Luisa herself, especially since there's other little instances in the movie where we see them being close. If anything, I'd say the bond between them is the strongest sisterly bond in the family.

I'm the oldest child and I full on started bawling with this song. As soon as she said "Give it to your sister, your sister's older, give her all the heavy things we can't shoulder" I just couldn't stop crying. Had to pause to regain my composure. Disney’s been doing a lot of therapeutic stuff of late, you know? WandaVision is about the stages of grief. I think Loki was about trying to change yourself and how people view you while fighting that urge to return to the familiar. Spider-Man No Way Home was about trying to find your way when you feel alone. Now we get a movie where the overarching theme is taking care of your mental health, whether that means accepting that you have worth when you think you don’t, that you don’t have to hold the world on your shoulders and it’s ok to ask for help, or that other people’s views of you aren’t as important as how you view yourself.

For me, I related to the song because even though I'm the second youngest, nowadays I'm the only everyone goes to when they need to vent However I can never vent out my problems. @Sneakysneaky88
@Sneakysneaky88 2 года назад
Exactly. The entire song is about her struggles but it's also a tragic victory anthem for her. No matter the weight she always prevailed for her family like a true hero, but it interplays that no matter how unbreakable she is, that pain is unbearable. Just seeing her pleading, vulnerable expression as the rocks and weight stacks up and she prevents it from toppling onto her sister, yet still blasting out that beautiful voice in defiance? It's a hell of an emotional rollercoaster. Encanto is a wonderful film that touches on a tricky subject, but the music in it really steals the show. I *sobbed* at this song. I'm the youngest sister in my family, the baby. My mom passed away in December and my oldest sister is shouldering EVERYTHING. My heart breaks for her and my heart broke for Luisa here. I see so much of my sister in Luisa, and so much of myself in Mirabel in this part. I'm so happy you shared your reaction, because every other reaction video I've seen for this is people reacting to how badass Luisa is (and she is!). But no one really seems to understand the full gravity of this song. I'm so glad you do.

I'm so sorry for your loss and the stress your family is under. I hope thinge get better soon. I'm the youngest sib in my family and was the main caregiver for my elderly parents (Mom passed 9 years ago, Dad 5 years ago), and I remember that relentless crushing stress, wishing for just a day, a few hours to myself, but feeling guilty for being selfish that way. Since my parents are gone, I have often wondered if I have a purpose anymore. It didn't help when my erstwhile grief counselor called me a coward, and though that was years ago and I know how wrong she was, the words still hurt. My god, that was a dark, dark year for me. When Luisa sings "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service" it's a blow to my heart.

As the oldest of 4 other siblings, let me tell you I sobbed at this song. I was glad I was not in the theater because it was ugly crying. Sometimes I didn't feel like a sister...I felt like the live-in nanny. I'm from a traditional Mexican household and was raised by my Abuela when I was younger and we had our own family black sheep...so the arguments in this movie was pretty...oof. I don't want to use the word triggering, but I can't think of any other way to put it. It was almost like therapy. I've seen people who were not the eldest siblings, and people who didn't even have siblings relate to this song because everyone had had that moment in their life where expectations, responsibilities and pressure was put on them...often a bit too young. So don't be embarrassed by getting hit in the feelings. Disney is pretty good at that.

Even if you don't have siblings of your own this can, and mostly will, hit hard for everyone who's seen their parent, sibling, or anyone close to them deal with emotional pressure and expectations. ♥️ I can't help but cry whenever I hear this song because it reminds me so much of my older sister who basically raised me when she was only 14. Due to our rather big age gap we never got the "equal" treatment from our parents: She had to deal everything in the family, be the emotional support for her baby sister, me, and to this very day she's yet to receive enough appreciation from our mother for never breaking down/being there for the whole family. She could've said 'no' and left, but she stood strong and made sure to always be there for me. I don't have strong enough words for how much I love her and how much this song breaks my heart. Hopefully I get to see my sister soon, because damn I need a hug right now.

Leave it to Disney to make something that pulls on your heartstrings! This movie is full of very relatable family dynamics and personal anxieties. This song, in particular, really touched a lot of my own personal feelings and experiences. Even if you don't do it for the channel, you should still absolutely sit down and watch the whole movie at some point. It's wonderful.

Don't feel embarrassed, going into the movie I was not expecting to get emotional, but this song made me cry because it hits so hard bc I was that strong eldest sibling and rock of the family and still am and even if you are not an older sibling, you can still get emotional imagining the kind of pressure someone must go through to get to this point. Surface pressure isn't a bombastic song like we don't talk about bruno and it isn't grief stricken like dos oruguitas, but it hits on a more personal and emotional level. It is designed that way, which is why it's my favorite.

Children's movies have so many heavy messages behind their stories, most of the time we only understand them when we grow up. The lyrics hit a very deep place in my heart, cause I'm the older sister in a very complicated family, and there has been a lot of pressure, especially for the past 3 years. Don't be embarassed about it, it's alright to show emotion, even if society tells us that we should hide them

This song has always made me cry. As being the older sister i had to grow up way to fast, never got to enjoy my childhood. I was pretty much my sister mom since I was 11. I absorbed all the pain and pressure and carried all the burdens to protect my sister. I’m 25 now and my sister is 20 and she still tells me all the time how she viewed me as more of her mom than a sister. It’s extremely hard and this song touched me deep into my heart and described exactly how I feel.

Im the eldest sister and this song cut me deeeeeep. My little brother was living with me when I was in college because he had medical problems and I remember the pressure she was talking about in the song. Having to juggle school, rent, hospital visits for my brother and two jobs. When she says "Keep Going", I have vivid memories telling that to myself. Agh! Fantastic soundtrack.

Seeing you cry made me cry. It amazed me that you understood the meaning behind this song. It just shows that people expect to much from their kids and their children breaksuntill they can't anymore. I would know because my mom expected too much from me as her eldest daughter. This song always brings me in tears and seeing you react this way made me feel safe and secure that you know the pain we have to carry for our parents. Bless your soul❤️

as for me I was the middle child and my mother seeing both my elder sister and my younger brother both going the bad route making a mess of their lives, I had to be perfect to give and try to keep the family together. for us our family broke and stayed broken. the damage was too much my mother now learned but at the price of losing the connection to two of her children. i made up with my mother but the more we try to mend the broken piece with them the more they break it. hopefully they can live happy lives and someday we can mend those broken ties.

A very relatable song and a very relatable character too! She loves her family and does everything she can to try and help the family but as things keep piling on and piling on and she’s becoming overwhelmed but she would never admit she was getting overwhelmed because to her that would feel like she’s letting the family down so she slaps on a smile as a disguise as the burdens continue to pile on leaving her with this massive PRESSURE hidden just UNDER THE SURFACE. So very relatable. The part that hit even harder for me was the part where she sings, “and it’ll never stop” with that weak defeated voice. I recognize that moment, the moment where we’re stuck for so long in such a crappy situation with no clear end in sight and eventually I stop waiting for it to end and think it will never end, and this is my new normal. Probably about the worst feeling in the world! Fortunately the “new normal” often does end eventually, you just have to HANG ON A LITTLE LONGER.

"Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt and see if she can handle every family burden." that one got me. I want to cry every time I hear this song, but I end up laughing and choking the tears back down. Such an emotional song and the struggle that she goes through. You look at the lyrics and ignore the catchy tune, it's hard to believe that this is meant for kids. It deals with pretty serious stuff and later on in the move Luisa really does break under the pressure.

The first time I heard this song I was distracted by the dance and the funny donkeys, but I listened to it without the visuals, and boy.... being the oldest daughter has always been so hard for me. My mom always told me that I had to be a good example for my siblings, everything I did, they did too, so I was always in so much anxiety that I could do something and they got hurt or something. I was the one with responsibilities and expectations. still am. Even if we're all adults and they have their own mind and personalities, I still feel like I have to be perfect to set a good example. I had to deal with a lot of shit on my own from a very young age, because my parents told me I had to be strong for everyone. This song speaks volumes for me. Feeling like you're worthless if your not strong or helpful, Feeling like you have to save everyone. No cracks, no breaks, no mistakes. Even if I'm an adult now, I still feel like this, and always will.

I can hear all the pain and the sadness and saying that you're fine when you're not and all the pressure you feel from your family to be someone great and to live up to the potential they have for you. All the other reactions I saw, people just said they like the song and the beat but no one really considered the lyrics or the story because all they were saying was wow she's strong and I feel like that's not the main point. Maybe sad people recognize other sad people i guess fictional or real.

I feel like if he saw the part just after this where she's panting and Mirabel just hugs her he would have seriously just broke down crying because man, she loves her sister, she's worried after listening that she's taking on too much, she's realising the hidden stress she's going through The whole music video is a literal metaphor about how on the surface she acts fine and strong and unbothered but underneath she's just stressed and secretly wondering if her only purpose is what people see It's ok to cry, no matter how strong you think you need to be, crying is good, it's healthy, bottling things up like Luisa piles more weight on your shoulders and drags you down... Showing emotions doesn't make you less strong, it just makes you human, you don't have to carry the whole burden by yourself

You are the only person I've seen react to the house falling on her as strongly as I did. 💔😭 Too many reactors cheered at that part, like, "Oh, see, she can do it because she's *so strong* , yeah, Go Luisa!! 😃". ....but that's not the point. The song has a frantic edge, and Luisa's fighting and trying and fighting and trying, protecting everyone as much as she can; and, just when she manages to carry it all, the house falls, and it's just... heartbreaking. It makes you want to bat the rocks away somehow, like, 'No, no! Enough!' Because like you said: "Nobody really wants to fight Cerebus". And the point of the song is that it's hurting Luisa that she has to do so much, y'know? The point of the song is that no one should have to carry it all, or take on that kind of pressure. At least not alone. The animation, her voice, and the music all come together to bring that point across beautifully, and I'm glad to see that you understood that on a deep level.
