You are missing the actual truth. The main theme is intergenerational trauma. And Intergenerational trauma can be mistaken for other types of traumas. Get this about 70% of the world’s population could be suffering Intergenerational trauma. And about 50% of that 70% are misdiagnosed as other traumas the remaining 35% of the 70% may never ever know if they have it. Intergenerational trauma is where one is forced to live one way and it becomes so ingrained into their minds that they force it onto their kids. Because of that their kids kids will be forced into that too. The sad thing that it is only a matter of time until someone breaks. Some researchers are now looking at past post stress disorder cases and found out that it might have been intergenerational trauma. The scary thing is that there is a 45% chance that you could be unknowingly suffering from it. And there is 55% chance that two or more of your friends and family are unknowingly suffering it.

Georgia you should also watch 'family therapist breaks down encanto family'. It talks about all the personality types on display in the movie. What I find very interesting about Luisa is that even while she has the 'strong one' personality type she is also a very caring big sister. At every point both in the song and the rest of the movie she either helps Mirabel and looks out for her. Warning her about the barrels she is dropping, fixing her glasses during the song, pulling her away from dangers in the song. She is a way better sister then Isabella who seems to only look down on Mirabel.

Exactly. Luisa and Isabella aren't allowed to make mistakes, they have to be perfect and robotic and selfless, and their self worth is based on how useful they are to others. We could see Mirabel giving into this at the beginning, with her excluding herself from the family song, to her overexertion with helping with the party set up. Luisa's song really opened Mirabel's eyes for sure, it helped her to be an advocate for her sisters during the big fight with Abuela

The pressure here might not be coming from Abuela directly, but Julieta. Pepa's kids don't impose that kind of perfection on themselves. Julieta is a loving and supportive parent but she's also been modeling this behavior for her daughters. Every time someone has the tiniest hurt Julieta jumps in with healing. After Mirabel sees the cracks Julieta takes the conversation to the kitchen so she can fix Mirabel's scratch without being asked or even really noticing that she's doing it. Luisa learned never to turn down even an implied request for help by watching her mother being the same way.
@Spectralyzed
@Spectralyzed 2 года назад
_None_ of them are allowed to make mistakes. Mirabel is told not to do anything because Abuela thinks she'll just make things worse. Pepa is told to keep her emotions in constantly. Bruno is frowned upon because he simply used his gift, and people didn't like the answers. They all are expected to keep this façade of perfection because Abuela is determined to keep up appearances 24/7.

As a third child and the youngest. In my family the oldest child got the most attention.The first child is always most exciting, while my parents kinda didn't bother as much by the point they had me. Television raised me. Nobody ever taught me anything.I had to learn everything myself. And to this day no one bothers to explain to me the most basic things I would NEED to know as a freaking adult to be able to normally function in society. Having aspergers doesn't help. I don't know what I don't know.
@EdonSerifi
@EdonSerifi 2 года назад
@@allmigthygoddess939 I think that is a second negativ side effect of the Patents putting so much pressure on their First child. Yes, they gets a lot of attention. But with that attention come a lot of expectations. For me that was having to got to college and getting a degree, nice Job etc. Beeing academicaly successfull. Doing something creative, something that i wanted, that went against that idea was simply.... Never an Option. My younger brother on the other Hand had all the options. He can do what He wants to do. Because the Patents already succeeded in parenting by having a successfull First child. Its two sides of the same coin in my opinion. Patents making Sure that their First child is 'successfull' but therefore having less time/Ressources to attend the other children... Giving them more options to choose from.

I actually don't relate to this song and I'm kind of ashamed of that fact. All my younger siblings just didn't need me, or at least didn't need me in the only ways I would have been able to help. They were always stronger, smarter, and more competent than I was. They don't really give it much thought but it bothers me. I already didn't have much success with other kids at school so add on not living up to my potential as a big sister and it's no wonder I have so little faith in my worth as a person.

I felt so so bad for Luisa when their house fell over her. She disappeared for a second, everything went silent and Mirabel looked so scared when it happened. It really seemed like she had reached one dangerous limit. And Yeah, that moment ended super fast because Luisa could actually lift the house, but when she did, she said "no mistakes", like, the house, the pressure was crushing her, but she still didn't allow herself to be vulnerable, instead, she pushed herself even harder. It's awful and I felt so sorry for her cause I've put myself in that same position in the past and I know how it feels. Thank you for making this video, your words are really helpful 🌼.

And then she immediately begins juggling it - the colours turn back from red to blue and it becomes entertainment again, because Mirabel was scared and even when trying to express her own emotions Luisa is still trying to *take away* the burden from her little sister.

The point where she turns her face away from Mirabel like she is ashamed to reveal this weakness to her. And when more weight falls onto her (Before the house) you see Mirabel jump up and have that panic moment that just screams "What do I do" because she wants to help Luisa but can't and then after the house drop it switches because she scared and made Mirabel worried about her and she is not used to that. She is not used to anyone worrying about her now.

There is a way to balance things, and if your plate is so full that you have no more spoons for others, THAT IS OKAY, TOO. As a big sister, I'm basically Luisa. I have always been expected to carry weight that even adults couldn't, even when I was 11 years old. When my grandmother died I was made to hold off on mourning properly so that way I could help my siblings, mom and other relatives to get through it. I didn’t properly grieve until I five years had gone by and I was in therapy. Now, I'm pulling away from the toxicity of my family and my girlfriend is there for me. She's been my support system for the last seven years. But, I don't think I'll ever fully break away from the mentality of *"I can handle it. I have to handle it, because no one else will."* through therapy though, I'm mapping out how I want to raise my own children. I don’t want them to go through what I did to the best of my ability, and I have to understand that I'm going to mess up, I'll make mistakes, but I can do my best to not put so much pressure on my children.
@sweettoothj3375
@sweettoothj3375 2 года назад
That I can handle it, I have to. I resonate with that too well, Im the baby of the family the last child but I'm the rock despite 5 brothers. I sacrifice alot for my family and I was raised to never ask anyone for anything if I didnt have I would do without. This song made me realise I m always wishing for someone to give me a hug and tell me it's gona be okay. Disney knows how to relate to people I'll give them that lol
@anaionescu8913
@anaionescu8913 2 года назад
I feel that, especially the point about your mourning. When my aunt died, who was basically like a mother, I had to stomach everything that I was feeling, be there for my mom and my other aunt, the sisters of the deceased, make sure everything was in order and be kind of a scapegoat for my dad, who's a very irritable, but rarely vulnerable person, who just pour out his anger onto others. I still have nightmares about that time, even though it's been almost 3 years.

My aunt died but I've been busy leaving myself behind to help everyone else grief because I have to be the emotional support for everyone because if I'm not no one else will be and now another family member died a week ago and I gotta tuffen up to help them get through this now to

While I, like thousands of others, relate so heavily to this song, my absolute favorite thing about it is that not once does Mirabel look afraid of Louisa. There are so many characters in media that are Louisa but everyone around them is just a little bit afraid of them *because* of their strength. They use the Louisa character for their strength but there's an underline of fear that keeps them from asking the Louisa about the Louisa's problems. But then here's Mirabel. Who asks her what's wrong. Granted at first it is about the magic but she asks in a way that speaks of concern of why Louisa herself is worried. And at the end once Louisa spills all her issues, Mirabel leans into her hug. All throughout the song Mirabel clings to Louisa, showing she is clearly unafraid of her sister and is actually relying on her and knows Louisa will keep her safe. Then she not only hugs her but Mirabel leans into it until Louisa picks her up and then she just lets Louisa cling to her. It's just so refreshing to see a Louisa type character in an actual loving family where, despite the super strength, they do not fear them. It's just so nice.

One thing I love about the art in this song is that even in her image spot, Luisa is helping in tiny ways. When they come off the sinking ship, she fixes Mirabel's glasses on her face. It's such an understatement moment, but it encapsulated the idea that Luisa can't not help, all the time, even for trivial things that people can fix themselves, like resetting your own glasses. I love this song and I hate how relatable it is, that dreadful feeling of inadequacy. Great video as always

I've been in therapy for five or six years now and I hugely struggled with external worth and not feeling I have intrinsic worth, I started therapy for both anxiety and falling chronically ill so I really struggled, but it finally fell into place in the past year and now I truly like me for me. It's really nice and honestly something I didn't think could happen. For all the people relating to this song I definitely recommend working on viewing yourself as a person in your own right, with a therapist if you can afford that. It's very hard to divorce worth from actions but it's great when you get there. I had the conversation "you don't have to save the world" with my therapist and I was like "but it needs saving and no one else is doing it, if I don't do it we're f'ed!" and like objectively now I can see that's ridiculous, but it was genuinely how I felt. You have to let bad things happen sometimes for your own health.

Hi Georgia! You make a great point about extrinsic self-esteem. You're right, it's not sustainable if it doesn't come from within. I learned this the hard way. Sometimes I've focused too much on productivity and results (and worrying about what others think) than enjoying what I do. I also agree, that the self-inflicted pressure and pushing oneself hard and not allowing room to feel worried, show vulnerability, etc takes a toll. And I totally agree, it takes courage to show vulnerability and to do something that you're scared about. And you're spot on, we all have limits and need to set boundaries. Your video spoke to me. I try to do too much sometimes. I can relate a lot to Luisa and to what you're saying too. I'm working on pressuring myself less, focusing more on enjoying life, taking care of myself, and setting boundaries. Excellent video, Georgia! You rock! PS. Your cosplay is awesome as always!

my first go to with her line of "pressure like a drip drip drip that'll never stop" is the infamous "chinese water torture"; and as the older sister under immense amounts of pressure, that line was the one that hit me first, because that's really what it feels like after long enough--even though that small little drop of water is grating on your nerves, eventually you just accept it as part of your life, that if it was going to stop it would have stopped by now, right? it breaks you, it gives you basically no hope for the future because you will have no peace as long as that drop is there.

I was throwing up and not sleeping or spending personal time for me, just killing my health. My wake up call wasn't people telling me to stop or that I need to do something for me, cause they kept asking me for stuff or telling me something needs done. People stopped telling me stuff needs done or asking me to do something. And one time I asked for something to do and was told Go lay down, that's what I need. Only once. Only thing that hurt more in that mindset than not trying to do everything, it was people not wanting my help and needing to be healthy enough actually help. And after a few months of doing stuff for me, sleeping and eating enough. I am finally starting to feel like being me is enough.

I think that Luisa smiling during almost the whole song while talking about so many hard things for her really shows how much she's looking out for Mirabel even while she's vulnerable, like keeping her hands over the reigns even though she's given them to Mirabel, I often see people under pressure who've been shamed for emotions and being weak struggle with smiling when they're sad or even crying, rewiring their reactions naturally,, it's very sad to think about, and the way Mirabel smiles back really shows how Luisa takes everything into consideration, even in her most vulnerable moments when she's supposed to be relaxed she's not a priority, the wellbeing of others is, the way she fixes Mirabel's glasses after they fall before the domino sequence really sets that in,,

Sometimes we do it not for the ego boost, but just because it breaks our heart to see everyone else suffering. In its own right, that makes it an even worse mindset to be in, because there isn't any validation or recognition to be had, so there isn't any positive feedback to our emotional state; it's just a downward spiral, because it feels like year after year it's just going from disaster to disaster, no matter how bad things get, or how badly we need a break...

I honestly thought Luisa NEEDED more of a dive into her and her story aside from just this song. The behind the scenes stuff really fleshed her out way more, and the deleted scene that was CRIMINALLY removed of hers dealt so much more with this idea of her being the "strong one" all the time, because Maribel goes into her room and it is all stone....everywhere! Nothing soft seen anywhere, even the pillows. But....she had a SECOND room inside that WAS all soft, cuddly, forgiving, and Luisa said this was what she wanted more than anything...to be able to be ALLOWED to be soft at times. But because of how people simply saw her physically, she felt she had the duty to put up that same outward appearance, and was very sad when that revelation was made.

I watched Encanto a couple days back with my family and I empathized with Luisa's character and song because I used to be that person till the pressure got to much. At the point that happened for me things started dropping off of me, I'd be holding and juggling a dozen or more responsibilities and someone would ask one more and one of the ones I was doing would fall to the wayside. It got to the point where I noticed the mess that was falling around me cause I couldn't hold it all and I felt terrible. Then because I felt terrible I could hold less and less till I was standing in a ruin of responsibilities that I had started neglecting and crying to myself. Then my family quietly started picking up the pieces and taking care of things, and that was a mix of emotions at first because yes, I could finally breath, but I lost my identity. As I worked through my emotions and finally came to a more healthy state I realize how much of my childhood I had lost because of was the responsible one, and I started figuring out where I would draw lines, and occasionally telling people "no" not because I had a real reason to say no that time but to practice doing so, as a reminder that I have the freedom to do so. now though I've got a little sister who is filling the role of responsible one, and I see some of what I went through in her. The rest of the family isn't putting as much on her as had been put on me, and she does say no sometimes, but she acts like a mom a lot and if something needs to happen she makes sure it happens. Nowadays I'm busy with work a fair amount, but I hope I can help her not become younger me, though I'm grateful that she has gotten past childhood before mantling the title.

As an only child, I am pushed into being a mix of the three sisters, and I end up leaning into a role of being the fixer for everything, not just the carer like Mirabel is. It is such a pressure! And now that my parents are older and disabled, needing help (and not having family in the area), I am forced into being their caregiver too. They don't take no for an answer, going so far as accusing me of lying when I cannot do something, or they try to guilt me into doing it anyway because "hiring someone else will cost money." I'm so tired of being put into situations I cannot assist in and in several cases getting hurt during because of my inexperience with it and their assumption that I will just be able to do it because I'm "young."

I feel that. It's part of why I had to move far enough away that my parents couldn't have me shoulder everything. Currently now they're struggling with health issues, and I'm beating myself up that I can't be there, and I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not superhuman and even if I was there I wouldn't actually be able to solve anything. It might not hurt to explain to them that hiring someone else isn't the end of the world. Yes it may cost money, but as said in the video you are only one person with limited resources. Finances cannot be allowed to win-out over quality of life. Also, if they guilt you, guilt them back: "Wouldn't you rather hire someone to do so that your child can spend more quality time with you?"

Just a quick note to tack on to this video. Other than just the song itself, if you look at how Luisa interacts with Mirabel throughout the song, you'll notice that Luisa is protecting Mirabel in all of these situations, exemplifying the amount of pressure she has, especially for her younger sister without any powers. The only time she lets go for a moment is in the breakdown, while she contemplates relaxation like a daydream briefly before going back to focusing on her pressures.
@heymint2093

I remember crying so much the first times I heard Luisa's song (yeah, it wasn't just one time) because I saw way too much of myself in it. The thought that nothing will be the best it can be if it's not you who's doing it, never giving yourself breaks and working to exhaustion on things that shouldn't even be your responsibilities to begin with, even if it's all rooted in wanting to help other people. I never knew how to set boundaries, like Luisa, and the more I did the more it was expected of me, all the extra help is taken for granted and you can't say no because in your head they'll get mad at you or call you weak and so you hide everything and help with a smile on your face because that's what you do best. I was lucky my family, teachers, and friends made me realize I was putting too much on myself and helped me build boundaries, but Luisa didn't have anyone who'd tell her her pain was valid before Mirabel and that's just heartbreaking.

As someone who embodies this pretty hard - I was the eldest child, was expected to be perfect constantly, was gifted, had to practically raise my brother and was blamed for everything he did wrong, etc., when I started setting boundaries and learning how to say no, my family and people I care about basically stopped speaking to me at all - like, if I wasn't going to carry the load of all their burdens, then they didn't have any use for me or my time. I felt very alone and abandoned, instead of relief or at ease without the burdens I'd been under, for years. It took years for me to be able to breathe and not be hurt by how they treated me. Therapy helped me to understand that my choices weren't 'be the hero' or 'lose them all'. That my choices included just being myself and letting them come in and out of my life at their whims, and that I could decide how much to accept - or not accept - as that happened. I'm a lot better now, but it took a long time and a lot of work to understand where those feelings came from.

This video hit me harder than I expected. I'm in a similar situation where I feel like I have to manage another person's life alongside my own. I'm in university, nearly finishing, and my younger sister has dropped out of school and seem like she will have a shit future. Still no one in the family cares about helping her, just letting her float along, and only noticing when they actually talk to her (which is rare). My parents will then blame all siblings for being bad kids in general and still do nothing about it. I feel like if I don't do it, no one will.

I came to realized this when I realized that her strength came from magic not her muscle, for her to actually get muscle she would have to push herself beyond her magic super strength and it said that her strength is strong enough to lift a mountain. So her muscle is basically decorative. So Instead of working out sense her power negate her need to do so, she could spend the time that she work out doing other things. I wonder of her working out to look like a body builder is simply so she can feel more better mentally when she look at herself in the mirror, like if your a skinny girl with super strength and constantly worry that your not strong enought then seeing yourself in the mirror as a skinny girl with no muscle would eat at you. Like their body builder who talk abody issue because when ever they look in the mirror they don’t think their Muscler or strong enought, causing them to abuse steroids. Then when they get bigger muscle they feel more confident.

As someone who grew up in a household with an emotionally/psychologically abusive parent, and as an eldest child, I related to this song so much. As a teenager I was frequently comforting my mom and younger brothers after my father had finished his tantrums and scared the shit out of everybody. Then when everybody became adults I was talking one brother down from suicide attempts and another from panic attacks, and reassuring my mom that it wasn't her fault. Meanwhile I had my own traumas I was neglecting, and working healthcare during a pandemic only added to them. And given how chronically short-staffed we are, trying to get time off to take care of *myself* is like pulling teeth. Needless to say, I knew exactly what Luisa's song was gonna be about before she even started singing and had to explain why it made me so sad.

Since Luisa's Mother (Julieta) was the eldest of the triplets AND her gift was a gift of healing. She would probably be under plenty of pressure having to help and heal others. That pressure could've been pushed onto her children which is why Luisa is probably never resting or saying no.
@starlette7820
@starlette7820 2 года назад
While I do agree with you that Luisa does mainly do this to herself, but I do think there is much blame to be put on Abuela since she is the one who puts the pressure on her family to use their gifts to better their community. When Antonio gets his gift one of the things she says to him is how they will talk about how he can use his new gift to help the community, and I have no doubt in my mind she instilled that thinking into Luisa too.

I would also like to mention that occasionally these personality types can derive from childhoods where the person needed to grow up and help others really quickly. Think like if an older sister had to raise their younger sibling because they’re parents were never around, if a child has elderly or sick parents they need to take care of, or if that child has parents with such high expectations and standards and little regard towards the child’s boundaries. For example I lived with my mother and next to my grandparents. My mother was apathetic and uninvolved, and my grandparents were both sickly. I’ve spent almost my entire life being a caretaker it’s just second nature

this kind of reminds me of this girl in my grade 7 class. chick was brilliant - 90% to 100% for EVERYTHING. one day, she got i think it was 84% for a geography test? she turned that shit face down and tried to avoid crying in front of everyone else. i asked her if she was okay and she just said "i didn't do too well" and i kind of wanted to smack her and tell her she was fricken brilliant but i also knew she was the kind of person who would see any comfort for her 'failure' as pity or that she was showing vulnerability. i didn't say anything and just told her to ask the teacher to remark it and hey, she always had the next test to make up for it because this didn't count for marks. i think about her a lot.

This related to me on a personal level. If you feel like this as well, ask yourself this - are you actually resolving problems by resolving them for others, or create more problems? One heck of a sentence, I know. But when you resolve problems in the stead of others, they will not be able to do it themselves, so what happens when you break down one day? And believe me - it WILL happen...

I had a friend put a huge amount of unachievable, non reachable expectation on me for college ; taking 6 classes at once for freshman year. And it made me feel anxious and overwhelmed but being the Leo personality type I am, I put my foot down and said “NO” and she got angry at me for denying her this insane expectation for me to burden and I told her I can’t handle that much work all at once and that it’s to much and would cause me to falter. And she then began to say you are capable, you are capable, you are capable, even after the fact i told her my brain isn’t like hers it can’t take on huge amounts of information and process it quickly, and my brain works a bit slower and at a slow pace, that’s just how dyslexic brains work. And she had the audacity to say “stop using you disability as an excuse.” And that is where I drew the line and cut her off. Because if she was willing to put my mental health on the line just to fulfill her satisfaction for some selfish expectation I wasn’t gonna let that happen. And it made me feel so good standing up for what I what and what I think is right for my health.

She was overwhelmed, my father had for treated because he was still mourning his first wife, and my younger brother, I am now remembering, had some serious accidents when he was little because I don’t think he was being watched. I found out From my much older siblings that I was always hovering over him. I ended up marrying someone who is disabled. I love him so much and have four grown children and 30 years of marriage. I'm the younger sibling and yes, it's true that the older ones always have to carry the problems of their siblings too. I truely believe that this is really hard and a mental and physical pressure, And I respect everybody who carries this burden. But as the younger one you always have to be as good as your older sibling. You get compared with them in everything you do and if you're not as perfect as them you get judged for it. It's really hard if you're expected to be like a person who's not you. I really don't want to offend anybody by saying that. I just wanted to say that it's also hard to be the younger. I, for example have an older brother, he's 17 and I'm 15. He always was a very intelligent boy, expecially in maths. And he also was and is sporty, nice, confident, funny and has the best grades you can have. My family was always very proud of him. But then, there's also me. I'm very bad at maths, the unsportiest girl you can find, shy as hell,, very introverted and I just have average grades. Compared to my brother I'm like a piece of garbage who wants to be like a beautiful flower. As the younger sibling my family expected from me to be as perfect as my brother. But I'm not as perfect as he is and I never will be as perfect as he is. But that's what I'm supposed to be if I want them to be as proud of me like they are of my brother. I really love my family and I want them to be proud of me, but it's just impossible for me to be someone who's just not me.

But not in the "hero" form, my wife has a disabling chronic autoimmune disorder, and my oldest ADD. I'm constantly juggling work and family to stay afloat. This song gives me somehow strength and even more acknowledgement. Now back to your video :) "Can I glow" means to me, is it ok to acknowledge it about me or is it asking for validation (which can be frowned upon, Catholic background) So for me the validation is not the reason, rather necessary and not finding an end to the struggle.
