@@EbefrenRevo Properly cooked italian food is almost guaranteed quality. But of course there are bad places even here. Then again, these guys look like competent foodies, so I'd guess they didn't just rush into the first tourist trap they met but were smart enough to ask for advice.
Everything looks fantastic, my parents are Italian, I was born in Australia bit I grew up with all he yummy pastas and home made creations. Awesome video guys
Thank you! Oh, that is so cool to hear. Is there a particular kind of pasta you've had at home that many other Australians likely haven't tried before?
Fitangie, Love Italy! Definitely the best country in Europe to visit. We visited Italy a lot this past year. Check out our last video and let us know what you think?
Thank you! We've been to Italy a few times now and everytime we go back we realize there is just so much more to see, do and eat. Would need a lifetime to cover it all.
Thank you! That is super exciting! Where do you plan to go? We have a lot of Italy content (from last year and newer videos from this year) and we'll be visiting Greece again as well.
The 2 euros each are for "coperto", wich includes the bread and the service. Remember that the "tip" is not a thing in italy, sure you can give the tip if you like, but it's not a thing for us. We just have the "coperto". Bye
BTW, that bread you had looks like Pane Altamura. It was the bread that Caesars would supply their armies with on the way to their campaigns of conquest. They said that it was the best bread for health and strength.
Orecchiette is the hypocoristic form of the italian word for "ears". It's a traditional variety of pasta from Puglia, but I think it's probably the most widespread regional variety all over Italy.
I think that "orechiette" (= spanish word "orejitas" ) is a modern name for "straccinates" (= spanish word "arrastrados"), I am italian's son, but i was born in Argentina, like Audrey's Father. My father introduce at my home the name "straccinates" when he arrives Argentina, at 1924. My sister Ana , make straccinates one by one these days. She is 87 years old. My father born at Trani, near Matera. Greetings friend
great !!! you are in italy 💓 we hope that we'll see a full guide of rome like London!! we are going to visit rome in november and that will be great!!!!
The huge portions in North America are one of the reasons why there are lots of overweight people. The other reason is a lot of food in North America is filled with chemicals & gross stuff.
great video, I was born not far from there, so I'm really happy that you appreciate so much our food. 😃 anyway, the service charge it's very common in Italy, like you find it in 99% of the restaurants because we don't use to tip as much as in the US, so they charge it for the bread and the service almost like a general tip. it's very unlikely to leave more than a couple of euros as a proper tip. 😉
I will miss you with your videos! Matera is third oldest city in the world, after Aleppo and Damasco, who certainly know where are! Basilicata and Molise are the less knowing Italian Regions, probably becuase there are small, and long time ago Molise was a part of Abruzzo, who is in the north of that two regions!
You are not supposed to tip in Italy! Only foreigners do... Italians don't. The price on the menu is what you are supposed to pay, no added taxes or tip. Waiters and cooks already receive a full salary, they don't live on tips. (from an Italian)
Davide Giri Not totally true, if the service is so good you can give a tip! (E direi che io la mancia al cameriere quando questo la meritava l'ho sempre data con molto piacere, anche perchè lo stipendio del cameriere è piuttosto basso)
That's not true. It's not expected for the client to tip (in the sense that no one considers it mandatory) but it's not that uncommon either, and if you appreciate the food and/or the service, it's surely appreciated by the waiters. I'm Italian and I leave some extra as a tip while paying any bill (again, IF I'm satisfied with what I got).
I think it is just called "Pane di Matera". When I was there in Septembre, most of the restaurants put one of those breads on a table outside their door. they are really proud of it. it always has a very strange shape. i didn't like it tho, but because it is part of their cuisine, i had to try it
The two euros they charged you is called "coperto", and it's actually for the cutlery, dishes, tablecloth and napkins you're using, but it is also for the bread.
You can see South Italy cuisine is complete different from Tuscany and North Italy? Not all Mediterranean countries use the same recipes, when someone states "Mediterranean cuisine" it means they share a lot of core ingredients but not necessarily recipes. There is no traditionally Mediterranean recipes, the traditional part equates to the recipe owner of a specific country not the group itself.
The traditional cuisine of North Italy, especially that of the Alpine regions, is not "Mediterranean", dominated by butter and and meat, especially pork, much more similar to the central European cuisine, however with excellent dishes. P.S. non ci siamo appropriati di niente, la nostra cucina non è mediterranea ed è eccellente, ma conosciamo i benefici della dieta mediterranea.
How do u guys order your food in europe we found in italy people didnt speak english amd menu wasnt in english or is just we were doing something wrong
Well, you can learn a few words in Italian, maybe...As you may know English is not the official language in Italy, so you might expect people not to speak it. What you did wrong is to expect anybody to speak your own language. My 2 cents...
I just read that apparently in some countries such as France and Italy, waiters rent tables from the restaurant which is why they charge a fee for sitting. That fee goes to the wait staff.
Hey Guys, I'm guessing you are having internet problems! I know how difficult that can be, I was a Qantas Flight Attendant for 20 years (Qantas is a major airline from Australia) and travelling the world can certainly be frustrating when trying to connect to the internet! I check everyday hoping for a new video. You said you were putting out 2 last weekend, which you did - and they were fabulous! But, you said you were putting out 4 during the week but, nothing! Are you able to perhaps send a quick video when you can't put out videos, because it just seems that they are coming out less and less frequently! Are you thinking of not vlogging anymore? I can imagine that it would take up a large portion of your life! I thought you may have found another social media platform. If you have could you please let us know because I'm guessing everyone would love to follow that. Wherever you are posting please let me know because I am a fan of your videos etc Currently searching RU-vid to find something that is remotely as good as your fabulous VLOGS to keep me entertained in the interim! You guys rock xxxx
Thank you very much! We really appreciate the concern. We've just been sick and traveling with family lately. Trying our best to catch up get back on schedule soon :)
Just wondering, since my last message 3 days ago, if you are still vlogging? I hope everything is okay. You said there would be 4 videos coming last week....but, nothing! Do you think you will be posting this week? I sent another message asking if, perhaps, you may have decided to give the game away for awhile and pursue other ventures. It's all good, but we would all just like to know (when I say "WE" I mean myself and all my travel friends who joined your page upon my suggestion) what your intentions might be! Cheers xx
Thank you very much! Really appreciate you checking in and your concern. It has just been a perfect storm of family travel (less time to edit/upload), some bad colds and slow internet. We'll be catching up soon and hopefully getting back to 3-4 videos a week.
Well, just know that you are doing a great job! Sickness, family, slow internet - that certainly makes sense! We all miss you heaps xx We look forward to your vlogs when you get the chance xxxx
You guys are so much fun! Found you recently looking for Hongkong videos! I was there in 87 for a ten day Oddesy! Was able to stay with a friend there from the states working for an electronic company! FREE RENT! That was back in my DRINKING days so you can imagine it helped arrange the Odessy! Haha! You were wondering about Netflix vids to watch. Here's my recommendations .......Silicon Valley A great comedy series.......Westworld a great scifi series.............stranger things.....strange scifi..........Narcos. A Pablo Escobar Story about the drug lord in Columbia!.........Surfwise....the story of a doctor quitting his profession and raising surfing kids in a motel home in the 60s...........I have other suggestions I'll think of later and send on. Hope you dig some of them. Also check out my channel for great music, science, travel, art, and odd videos I've saved from the great and mighty RU-vid. Google got a deal for 60 BILLION! Peace and LOVE ya'll ! ........
Since tipping is not the norm in Italy/Europe, this business of adding a service charge for sitting, may be the way they stack a server fee into the bill. Think about it. Makes the food menu read cheaper. Or maybe they really want a carry-out clientele?? I don't believe in tipping as a practice, but I live in US, so it is a given. I would love to live where, tipping is not an (expected) add-on charge; this sitting fee never happens; tax is not thrown on after the fact (at the end). Oh, to be where you know what you are paying, and the service is good because it has to be in the job, not just in trying to earn a tip. You are doing the traveling -- let me know where it is. ;)
Thank you for letting us know about that! One place that comes to mind is in South Korea where the price listed is what you pay and tipping is never expected. In fact, if you were to leave one you'd like have the waiter or owner running out after you to inform you lost money out of your wallet.
I admit it's a way to highen the bill. But in theory it usually includes the bread and the service. In practice, it's common everywhere in Italy and we don't leave 15% tips. If the service was good, you usually leave the change, 2-5 euro, on the table.
In italy Tip is not usual ( is optional ,for example if you want to reward a really great service ) normally you pay "coperto" ( and have bread free ) and done. the tip is always welcome but not required.
Always beautiful your videos. You can eat well all over the world, but if pasta in Italy I think it's a tradition. In Italy there are more than 300 types of pasta. these are only the best known : it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tipi_di_pasta ciao e complimenti per i vostri viaggi
Did you know that pasta was invented by China??, when Marco Polo came back from China after many of his trips he brought pasta to Italy and then Italians incorporate it in their gastronomy
You shouldn't tip in Europe, some people find it rude and condescending. They are persons with a job, they're not bums who you give your pocket change to..
Hernan Enriquez Well when the city is the 3rd oldest inhabited settlement in the world, you can't really expect it to look pristine now can you? I happen to think that its historical features make it beautiful
Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos I just saw it again on CNN on American TV. In the commercial Audrey is having a great time in Great Britain. London...At one point Audrey is pointing at a big sign that says BRIXIT or BREXIT or something like that.
