This episode is dedicated to the beauty and decadence of the fig. Come into the garden in Tuscany as we pick fresh sweet figs and then into my cucina to bake the most easy and delicious almond, olive oil and fig cake for summer. I have made it all bilingual so you can learn Italian and follow along with the phrases on screen. Hope you enjoy it. You can find many more videos on my channel about how I learned Italian and moved to Italy. Making these episodes alone is very time consuming and expensive and if you would like to support my work, you can find my Patreon page here:

You can find my recipes and other information on moving to Italy, learning Italian or my filmmaking equipment on my website:

Happy weekend! Recipe is now here on my site www.kylieflavell.com/index.php/2021/08/28/gluten-free-fig-almond-olive-oil-cake/ Nature also gifted us snakes in the house this week - my greatest phobia.😣And they all (yes, there are many!) seem to hide in different parts of the kitchen. So between the figs leaves and the serpenti it was quite a mythical biblical experience baking these cakes. One stayed right in front of the oven precisely when I needed to take the cake out - the only thing greater than my fear of snakes is my fear of a dry overcooked cake! 🙈😂

There’s definitely something to your videos that dominates all our senses with this tranquility and transcends us to a place that we can only dream. You’re making a fig tart, (which looks delicious btw) and you managed to do just that 💁🏻‍♀️…that’s just incredible! Never let this go, it’s definitely more than just making videos with you… much more! 🙏🏼😘

Once again..pure beauty! I grew up where food was only seasonal and not brought in from all over the world. There is something special about longing for that first watermelon of the season or springs first sweet pea. Deprivation and memory are powerful in our enjoyment.

Kylie, thank you for sharing your Friday evening with us. You put so much love ❤ into your baking I feel that I am with you in the kitchen. I can almost smell the warm cakes right out of the oven. I hope your snake problem does not continue. Outside they are welcome part of nature, in your home not so much. Over the years I have had mice, bats, squirrels and a family of raccoons. I just had to wait until they moved out. Take care and have a nice weekend.

Awesome cake Kylie. We have already made so much fig compote, dried fig, fig puree (which we also freeze), and also fig candy and syrup. You can never have too many figs. Figs is one of the healthiest "fruit" in the world. About the snakes - you do not need to be afraid (only cautious), most of them is not poisonous. :)

In the states, only in the south have I seen some of the most excellent fig trees. Figs are finicky, they grow where they choose. It’s the very best southern tradition to use the whole fruit in preserving. Wash the fruit, keep it whole , and add only sugar. Eating this on a hot biscuit on a cold winter day is one of my fondest food memories. I found purely by accident a glorious fig tree in that crazy city of Portland, Oregon. It was a beautiful September day, and it had just rained, leaving the ripe figs freshly washed. Reaching up , picking them to eat fresh off the trees yet another fond food memory.

The metaphors you and Guido presented at the opening are so true of life. To enjoy the moment while you can because it will end as everything does but then come again anew in a new time, space, season and seem the same but different in the same way. Something I am learning in other aspects of my life. That things will change but you will come back wiser. Fruits and trees are the constant in our lives and this world or us would not survive without them. Also with fruit depending on the fruit you can eat to your heart's content so that's always a plus ☺️🤭 I need to get into figs more they have alot of benefits and are lovely to eat when in season and ripe. Now I want cake haha and it's nearly 1am in London. It reminds me of your Apple tart episode when you reflected on fruit, love that episode it's so therapeutic for me as is your hummus episode. Guess I find watching you cook calms me down or keeps me company when I'm down which is lovely so thank you hun. XxxX

Minor comment: The UK term "cornflour" in the recipe refers to "corn starch" and that's what we need here. It is different from actual corn flour (US) / fine corn meal / maize flour (UK).
