As a Finn, I find it easy to get along with Swedes. They are friendly, well-educated, and generally hold positive views about Finns. I have great respect for genuine Swedes.

As a Finn, I have a lot of positive thoughts about Swedes. My mother’s sister and brother were placed in foster families in Sweden during the difficult period after the wars in the 1940s. They were 5 and 6 years old at the time. So they are my uncle and aunt. My uncle came back to Finland, but aunt stayed in Sweden for the rest of her life. She married a Swedish man and now I have three cousins living in Sweden. Foster parents lovingly raised these ”war children” as if they were their own. Tusen tack, Sverige 🙏❤️ Btw, Swedish as spoken in Sweden sounds very beautiful, sonorous and soft. I really like it. Also Swedes are dear neighbors of us 🇫🇮🤍💙💛🇸🇪

What gets on the Italians' nerves about those French must Asterix the Gaul'? I guess this Kummeli sketch says it all about that stereotypical Swedish joyfulness: "Kummeli The World in Flames". Swedes have traditionally been referred as Gladstone Ganders for having such good fortune with everything. Donald Duck on the other hand is very popular in Finland. Regarding those "blond Swedes", I guess it says something about those stereotypes that there are actually more blondes among the Finns than there are among the Swedes. For a longer version on those stereotypes, here's a Swedish show. In that show Swedes E.g. claim that Finns don't like to travel, but in reality Finns travel more than any other nation: "Partaj - Jarmo Bastuklubben". on Saab: "The story of the 1986 Saab 90 - made in Finland". Unilever bought Ingman in 2011. That's how that, originally Swedish GB Glace's logo, became associated with it. Finland was the eastern part of Sweden for nearly 500 years, so some similarities can be expected: "What is the difference between Swedish and Finnish food?".

I think Sweds are more important to us than we are for Sweds. If we(Finns) think Scandinavia we think Sweden, if we think Nordics we think us with Sweden. Sweden is big brother to us, big brother who has taken care of us. specially in times when we were a bit lost like after russia invaded all the Baltics and we didn't belong to anywhere anymore. We know about Swedish royal family and many feel them our own. We know the language and therefore we know the culture. We are strong partners in security in North. I am from Turku (Åbo) living in Tampere. Tampere is extremely non-swedish speaking city in Finland. There is video about swedish speaking people in Finland : "Living in two languages in Finland - BBC World Service " or "Swedish in Finland - thisisFINLANDtube" Take care, Mauro.

7:19 Sure it is a good thing to learn a new language... But the problem with mandatory to learn Swedish is that that those that live at the eastern side of Finland are closer to Russia, so they would benefit more about having a choice wether they learn Russian or Swedish. AND another 'problem' in mandatory Swedish in my opinion is that we are also learning English. Well, the problem is that when there are people like me, that struggled to learn at all English... And then having to learn also Swedish in middle school... It was really messy for me. It got me struggling really much, no matter how I tried.. So, sorry, yeah, I think that maybe it would be better to have English as mandatory to learn (as it is more useful/universal around the world) and then have the ability choose between few languages you want to study. Just saying as my opinion.

Interesting to know that Italy has the same kind of relationship with France 😄 As you said, it does seem to be similiar situations everywhere, makes it feel like really small world. We are used to think that people from different countries are so different. Yeah there are different nuances and different cultural things we are used to, but after all, we are all so surprisingly much the same. 🤔

I've always wondered this: Sweden is our neighbor, but for some unknown reason, I've never personally known a single Swede. I've been to Sweden a few times, but much more often I've only been passing through to Norway or Denmark. Is it the case that Sweden (or my assumption of Sweden) is too similar to Finland to be interesting?

As a Swede I don't argree with the girl saying that Swedes don't accknowledge the rivalry. First of all we have the Swedish-Finnish games and that is ALL rivialry with Finland. And when it comes to ice-hockey it's very important to win over Finland. Sometimes more important than winning the championship. And I know that the Finns have the same feelings.

Finns and swedes. We have a very different view of our shared history. The Swedes' point of view is that they have saved us in time. The view of us Finns is that they once conquered us against the will of the people. In addition, they tried to eradicate the Finnish language during that time. This different view makes some Finns angry. Swedes, on the other hand, are careful with Finns, because they are afraid of us because of the wars and the traumas left by them. Think we are badass and grazy. And we are but only in good and nice way. But many Swedes have therefore never even been to Finland so they dont really even know. And are therefore in the wrong belief about this. Almost every Finn has been to Sweden so. But overall, we are very similar countries among ourselves. Like Italy and Spain with each other.

And I agree about that Finn's in 70 's living in Sweden. Swedes hated Finn's back then and behav really bad for Finn's, like they would be better person's. Or maybe it was just that afraid. Anyway, my parent lived in Sweden back 70's and they have told the same thing what that guy told. But I think it is even little different nowadays.

Finnish person here. My understanding is that the stereotype is from after mid-1900s (maybe 1960s or 1970s). It's based on Sweden having been ahead of Finland in understanding and tolerating normal human sexuality. Gay people were much more accepted in Sweden in those days, and us Finns were still generally weirded out by it. Naturally many gay Finns found life was better in Sweden and migrated, so there was this image of Sweden being "more gay". Of course the Swedish language _does_ sound kind of funny to a Finn who hasn't gotten used to hearing it, which also contributed to the stereotype. Regardless of all the above, Sweden is a wonderful neighbor and has been for a long time!

Questions were asked only in one city (Helsinki) and is not correlating all opinions, especially the younger people or those living outback, hate swedish people more. Did have that same hate in my youth, but not anymore. That youth hate probably comes from mandatory Sweden classes we need to participate for 3 years in school as a minimum. Few decades later and living in outback, no sweden= no hate😂
