That 350 is the cutest bike in the world. It's the "3 1/2" on the side panels that really makes it. Probably a nice ride too.

The Ducati 750 Sport. To my mind one of the most beautiful bikes built. Not the delicate breathless beauty of a 916, but aggressive muscular and lithe.

My favourite was the 750 SS. a bike so beautiful and that sounded so sweet that my dad a former soldier in the German motorcycle division before he switched to paratrooper allowed it to park out front on our sidewalk! My brother-in-law owned a Triumph 500 that was forbidden to park on any concrete around our house!! For all its problems at least the Ducati didn't leak!!!!! It was red and it was gorgeous and handled like a dream, scraping footpegs going around corners at speed!!

In 1987 we went thru Tecate and to Cabo, etc. I had a 1986 Moto Morini 501 Camel, friend had a 3 1/2 Moto Morini, two Honda Ascots and a Honda 500 dual sport. The Camel is a rare V twin dial sport.

Grande " Morini 3 e Mezzo"... veloce, leggera poca benzina...la 500 in proporzione consumava ancora meno. Ma la V7...è la V7! Per questo ho due Guzzi in garage..

I am a Guzzista with a California 1400. I like all the big twins presented here, but some of the claimed power and performance figures presented here are hilarious, proving only that in the 1970s Italian manufacturers had a good imagination. No, a Guzzi V7 Sport could not produce 70bhp. If it was properly tuned it might make just under 60hp on a good day. A Ducati 750GT could reach 200 km/h only if it was dropped from an airplane. On flat ground under its own power, the top speed was closer to 170-180km/h. They still look and sound fantastic even without the bogus claims.

I wish people would check their accuracy of things before making statements. I've been a Guzzi lover all my life, so I'm not a hater. But people lose their credibility when they just make things up. The V7 has always been a mild engine. Good bike, but no racer. According to Motorcyclist Magazine; (I knew this already, I just wanted an authoritative source), see below "In addition to new bore and stroke numbers, the Sport motor received lighter valve gear and con-rods and larger 30mm Dell’Orto carbs, all of which brought output up to 52 hp-from 40 hp." I love peoples interest in motorcycles...keep it up. You have a good site. Just check your facts. Thanks.

@neutronalchemist3241 4 года назад
The V7 Sport was simply the fastest (on a track) street-legal bike of its years, even without the optional disk brakes. It wasn't the most powerful, but in those years a great frame could still make the difference. Yeah. There was no way that engine could produce 70hp.
@johnedwards1685
@johnedwards1685 4 года назад
Over the years I had two 850 Le Mans. The first was standard, the second had a fair bit of tuning work (before I bought it) and Lafranconi exhausts. The standard one was lovely and would happily reach 125mph or so (if the speedo was to be believed). The second tuned one was just tremendous fun, very loud, storming midrange and music on the overrun that would make stone angels weep with gratitude. I took that one to the Isle of Man and had a fabulous time, it gave me my most memorable ride round the course. I think though that the standard UK 850 Le Mans was 71 horsepower. It had 36mm Dellorto carbs with bellmouths and high compression pistons. I would think that would make a bit more power than the V7.

Nice bike! I had a 1976 Benelli 750 Sei was the first production motorcycle with a 6-cylinder engine! 6 mufflers 3 on each side ,stacked on top of each other, it made for a really nice sound. It produced 76 bhp at 9,000 rpm, had a top speed of around 127 mph and was one of the smoothest European tourers. Wish I still had it.

@johncrowley5612 4 года назад
The belt drive Ducatis are indeed fine machines but 99% of Ducati enthusiasts would rate the bevel drive Ducatis as the most beautiful. They are certainly the most interesting from an engineering standpoint. The Ducati shown is a 750 Sport, the graphic erroneously refers to it as a 750 GT which is a lower compression engine with smaller carbs than the Sport. The video then omits the greatest Ducati of them all, the 750 Super Sport with 40mm. carbs and desmodric valve gear. The belt driven cam bikes are nowhere near as desirable as these bevel drive bikes.

I have a collection that includes a 750 Sei and 900 Benelli, a Moto Morini 500 Sport, and Dr. John's personal Moto Guzzi V7 Sport. No Ducati. The earlier 740 Sei Benelli has been a very nice bike. The 900 Benelli by far the most unreliable bike out of the 50 bikes in this collection. Big damage from broken timing chain tensioner. The Moto Morini 500 Sport is excellent. Less than half the size of the very nice 1992 Harley Davidson Daytona but faster and much better handling. Bit the Moto Guzzi V 7 Sport is the star. Have owned it for 40 years and it is still as reliable as a brick. Not with me ridding it, but back then Dr. John Wittner was national road race champion riding Moto Guzzi that he had prepared. Prepared so well that when he graduated medical school the Guzzi factory hired John to operate the Moto Guzzi factory race operation. During that time John and the Moto Guzzi team won the Daytona "Battle of the Twins" and the BMW and Ducati factory teams. The other writer was right that these bikes are faster than they seem. Thanks for the video. Hope you will do a longer one.

Was the specs on last bike (Green Moto guzzi) correct? It claimed 70 bhp. The 2018 model claims 58 bhp. Are we going backwards in this world?
@johnnzetrockk9404
@johnnzetrockk9404 4 года назад
yes, sadly now the business is paying less for cheap and poor quality components and in the process sacrificing engine performance due to those cheap materials, your favorite Japanese motorcycle most of its components are Chinese, ohh surprise !!!, if they wish they could make a 150cc motorcycle run like a 600, but that would ruin the business

We're not going backwards. The early V7 Sport had a "claimed" 70hp. That word is very important because back then Italian manufacturers made a lot of wild claims about the hp and performance of their bikes. It was completely made up, but at least it was entertaining. Just remember that it's just BS. The current bike is faster and more powerful than the original.

It's been a long time but I recall the peak being quite a bit higher, like 6300. But the thing had a real flat torque curve so you never cared about it. If you wanted more push, then downshift. If you wanted to go faster, then upshift.

When I started motorbiking in 1983 I owned a Yamaha RD 250 LC ( 4 L1 ) modified to 350- i it had 49 HP running 180 kph+ I smoked every of that italian made shit. Under an italian made parked motorbike was always a puddle of oil and gasoline and the lights and indicators hardly ever worked. With my RD - no issues. Later I bought and restored a wrecked Yamaha RD 500 LC. Used that until 2001. Than I bought Yamaha R1 RN 04. Still have it, running with no issues. Also have 1997 Yamaha XJR 1200. Speedo turned to 91000 kms today. Engine has been modified to FJR 1200 specs - 126 HP running 230 kph+. No issues ... Would like to see something italian made aircooled with more than 100 hp/ l lasting as long and still running strong. Not going to happen ...

No question that in terms of absolute dynamics Japanese bikes are the best and have been for a long time. People ride for different reasons though and smiles per mile are not something you can measure and put on a spec sheet. Character cannot be measure but it is this which gives more satisfaction than outright speed and efficiency.
