► Marcia Reale was the Italian anthem until 1946. The succeeding parts such as Giovinezza are secondary anthems throughout the existence of Fascist Italy. However, La Leggenda del Piave was the official national anthem of Italy from 1943 to 1944, and afterward, Marcia Reale again became the national anthem until the abolition of the Italian monarchy in 1946. The Sardinian anthem also served as the de jure anthem of Italy until 1946, specifically to honor the royal family.
