Italy's far-right government, led by PM Giorgia Meloni, recently made a change to its immigration policy. This involves a crackdown on residence permits for asylum seekers and an increase in deportation centres, in order to discourage illegal immigration. But the government also wants to increase the number of work visas for foreign workers from about 30 countries. The goal is to help alleviate chronic labour shortages, which affect various sectors of the eurozone's third-largest economy. Our correspondent reports.

Italy lacks uneducated, desperate and exploitable people, not workers. The problem is that italians have to be payed legally while migrants are happy to get paid anyway even of they evade taxes in doing so

Yes. If they really wanted things to go well for Italians and a lasting economy they would incentivize unions and births. They do not want that, for any European peoples anywhere in the world (US, Canada, Australia, Europe- it's all the same thing happening now). It's all up to European peoples now to decide their futures, because they have no real leaders, but most ordinary people have no sense.
