If he wants to study in the UK, use the legal student routes, as the original commenter mentioned. But either way, as a non-EU person he's gonna be paying extortionate university fees. It's already expensive for UK citizens. Places like Belgium are actually much more affordable for non-EU people. I have brief experience applying there. Ireland and the UK are very expensive for non-EU applicants. I think a better idea would be to just study a skill that is valued in the marketplace at a Nigerian college, then apply for a skilled worker visa in the EU or UK.

I would agree with you. It took me 5 years to come legally to Europe. It took my parents 10 years to move here legally. 1st time my dad was refused because he had… too much of education. What? We all work and never asked for government help. Now I have a Muslim neighbor. He came as a refugee. In 4 years here he NEVER worked. They have free housing, money from the government every month and he just got a new BMW. His wife does not work but pops babies every year. All they do is spend time outside with other Muslim families who are also spending time on government assistants. And they hate the European laws. They wish it was a Muslim state. But it’s free money here so… they relaxing we pay taxes.

The problem there is the young people do not want those kind of jobs because they have been raised in an education system that now virtually only focuses on either high end engineering design or general white collar careers and not much in between. Just like the U.K has been doing since the 90’s. The decline has nothing to do with lack of immigration. 125 million people on an island chain similar in size to the UK is not suffering from a lack of people especially as the retirement age in every country is increasing. They are suffering from a lack of money to pay all the pensions and a culture (like the West) that has made manual work seem something of the past. What needs correcting there is education system and career propaganda. Too many administration jobs, lawyers and accountants and not enough people to do the actual work. Japan is notorious (I go there regularly) for unnecessary administration and top heavy organisations. It needs a good reshuffle not an influx of more people.

Now it's turned into a slick operation. Even progressive institutions like the UN and EU state that 50% of arrivals aren't genuine asylum seekers. I knew once a few boats made it over safely that would be it. It gave implicit legitimacy and created a new route. When they sent pictures home of their hotel it was a perfect advertisement and word spread around. Why pay for a visa and have to sort out our own accommodation? When you can pay a few thousand euros throw away your passport and get free accommodation and meals. Paying the French to try and defend a 600 mile coastline is ridiculous. The numbers will simply increase exponentially. Australia is regarded as a democratic and upstanding country. Turning back the boats hasn't changed this. They still have a lot of immigration. We should really educate them at home that "the good life" does not exist anywhere. We should also be incentivizing measures against desertification like the green belt in Senegal, country from which immigration has decreased because we are trying to create a sustainable common future.

Nigeria has an average fertility rate of 6 children per women. Their population is ~200 million now but by 2100 if you look at demographic projections, it’s expected to increase to 700 million (basically the population of all of Europe). How exactly is it possible to help Nigeria support this populace at a standard of living high enough that they won’t rather come to Europe? And that’s just Nigeria, in Niger it’s even worse, 7 kids per women. Africa has a population of 1 billion right now, it’s expected to explode to 4 billion by 2100. Meanwhile, Europe minus Russia is 600 million and since people are having less than 2 children (replacement levels) the population is shrinking, will likely be 300-500 million by 2100. So, 300 million people support 4 billion? All this is an extreme example, but just my way of showing you your suggestion isn’t long term viable. Europe will have to protect Europe, and not by absorbing migrants - 1 billion to 4 billion in population, there’s not going to be enough jobs, there will be hundreds of millions who will come to Europe if access is open to them. Europe can’t demographically take all that, not without demographically transforming itself and destroying its identity in the process. Not to mention the insane economic burden.

A couple of counter points: “Why don’t they unify for change?” This seems very naive. Look at what happened in Syria as an example of people doing this. “If they don’t follow the process for legal migration…” One problem is that legal migration is totally overwhelmed by numbers too, unable to process in large enough numbers (although this varies a little country to country).

@@30yoboomer To start with, those on Polish/Belarus boarder they were NOT refugees: they were tourists flown from Iraq, Turkey to Belarus. They were of no risk of drowning, in terrestrial boarder. During the incident with Belarus a few immigrants passed and reached Germany. That when Poland closed borders with Belarus. Similarly USA do patrol the border with Mexico, but still some do manage to pass.

If they are refugees they can apply for asylum in Tunisia/Egypt/Morocca, and several other african countries. Europe has to protect its border, it is as simple as that. yes - that's because under EU law migrants have to claim asylum in their first point of entry. The UK is no longer in europe so can no longer return them.

France and Italy are in EU. UK is not in EU anymore. Do note also, *terrestrial borders are different from maritime boarders,* nobody is in risk of drowning in terrestrial boarder and they can be blocked on the spot.

@@lv3609 We don't have to abide by the rules of the ECHR, it can be ignored. We are fully entitled to fill an RAF transport plane and dump them back. It is illegal to enter the UK without a passport. It is illegal to arrive in the UK through unofficial entry points.
