It's more than just for economic reasons; many people see what mass 3rd world migration is doing to Europe and they don't want to rear children in such an environment. I agree though, the primary reason is the economy.

Falling birthrates are not a problem if you want to stop pensions for the elderly and let them starve to death and if you want to see a big drop in GDP collapsing the economy as businesses cannot pay their bank loans with reduced economic activity. There are millions of ethnic Italians in South America whos ancestors immigrated there many decades ago. If Italy needs workers to boost its population, and preserve its culture, they should recruit or encourage these people to settle in Italy. I saw a report where small hospital in Sicily brought over doctors from Argentina (Italian ancestry)to work. The hospital was on verge of closing, but with the new doctors it was able to continue to operate. Japan, which is in a similar situation with its population, has brought over ethnic Japanese from Brazil and Peru, descendants of Japanese immigrants who left Japan.

In 2020, Argentina’s fertility rate - i.e. the expected number of offspring for every woman - fell to 1.55, the lowest number in history, even below countries like Sweden or Norway. Good luck seeking immigrants from a country without youth.

Europeans have this guilty complex, they rather to import people from countries that hate them and expect them to be subservient to them, I am ethnic italian, my both parents are italian, born in South America, moved to Italy when I was a teenager, as soon I completed 18 I left Italy, why? Bcs I was a foreigner in my own land, I faced discrimination not in the face2face as many other immigrants but hidden, so, if they want to take these “extra-Italians” back they need to learn how to treat them as equals.

They give them passports, they go to Spain for the language or UK and Germany for the money. They should force a language exam and a at least one year experience in Italy to allow them to have the passport, this would help a lot. I met lot of them and they were not able to speak any Italian but hold the passport,which is kinda weird.
@Hawkguyy
@Hawkguyy 20 дней назад
Yes. There are hundreds of Italian descendants on the American continent, including me. But many of them cannot afford the citizenship process or do not speak Italian. The Italian government could finance the process for families, provide free Italian courses for these families, incentives for these descendants to undertake business, etc. The language barrier and Italian bureaucracy make them prefer to go to countries like Spain, Portugal, Ireland, before the Brexit, the United Kingdom... Because they speak Portuguese, Spanish or English.

It's all pro ganda to force Mass Migration. As you rightly say Italy would be fine with 30m people. Of course the EURO is another mechanism to squeeze the Italian living conditions to be too high and wages not pay enough to support families in high living costs. remove EURO and devalue the Lira was always the solution in the past to make living conditions affordable and bring in investment and promote export. It's a massive con by the politicians on the people of Europe - been going on for decades. All while they bleat about sustainability: The best way to do that is to reduce population of consuming people back to lower numbers! In the interim AI will take on more productivity inevitably. Government spending is clearly massively out of control and the political institutions only care to prop up their power structures stealing the money off people via taxation without consent.

People love trying to use current economic conditions as the reason for the birth rates. Statistics suggest another story. Birth rates and marriage rates have been continually falling across the western world since at least the 1960s. At the same time, divorce rates have been rising. This is what happens when we alter the social roles of women and radically disrupt the dynamic of how pair bonding works. This is the result of decades of the cancer that is Feminism.

👏 exactly. Women in this paese, are homosexual. a huge portions, now label that as feminism, etc.
@greenlime8726
@greenlime8726 20 дней назад
The fact that women don’t depend from man as it used to be doesn’t make birth rates lower. It’s the economy, women are literally obliged to work in order to survive but it’s not what feminism is about, in a current economic system women don’t have a choice. And speaking about divorces and marriage, marriage as an institution actually encourages monogamy that leads to lower birth rates. If a divorce happen the probability you will have a new baby increases if you can afford it.
@jdm3072
@jdm3072 20 дней назад
@@greenlime8726 I completely disagree. Women not depending on men leads to one less incentive to associate with men. Pair bonding is no longer a necessity -- a fact that results in less opportunity for baby making. And indeed, women might be required to work due to our current economic conditions but you couldn't have used that lame excuse sixty years ago. Our current economy doesn't explain the lowering marriage rates and rising divorce rates in the 1960s. Also, research out of the University of Pennsylvania suggests married women are three percentage points more likely to have a child than their unmarried counterparts and are drastically less likely to have an abortion. Further other studies have clear correlations demonstrating that fertility rates fall when women’s education and incomes rise. A lack of income has never been seen to cause lowering fertility rates. It is often the most impoverished nations that have the highest birth rates. Rather, it seems that economic affluence is what drives down birth rates when people place material acquisition and personal life satisfaction above pair bonding, marriage, and producing children.

Fixing the population issue is simple: Make legal immigration of **desirable** foreigners easier, so that they can fill the job roles and integrate into the Italian culture... while also doing more to restrict uncontrolled immigration of those that drain resources, refuse to integrate into the culture, or pose a danger of increased criminality. Of course the same basic common sense is applicable to all western nations.

Funny thing is, that what happens but they go to the USA instead of Europe. Because think of this. Your a engineer, doctor and computer scientist in a third world nation and you can move. Moving to the EU isn’t bad since there’s a robust welfare system and it’s modern. But then what does that matter in relation to the USA. Healthcare cost a lot of money but that doesn’t matter when you can afford great insurance with your paycheck which is higher in the USA. For schooling you can just send them to costly public schools or private since in the USA you have money The EU is set up to work for lower/middle class people while America is for the higher class. The desirables would rather go to the USA because the draw backs don’t matter as much when you have money and you get to pay less taxes as a whole. Also our “culture” is easier to integrate. You guys scream and shout if you see Africans in Europe. Doesn’t matter if they are educated and have a job. You assume them to have welfare

Italians prefer quality of life, including health and longevity, over quantity. My grandparents in Sicily in WW2, under bombardments, in rural poor areas, had 5 children. Two - including my mother - migrated, to Australia. The other 3 who stayed only had 2 children, in total, and their 2 children only had one each. However, they have mobile phones, stylish clothes, large TVs, solariums, cars, cool lifestyles, one having moved to rich Como. So it's a choice. The population was 46 million in 1950, some 25% less. The decrease is not a problem, but the reduced number of young people is. Roberto Baggio, for example, born in 1967, was the sixth of eight children, so he would no longer be born. That said, Italy always was a patchwork of different city states / regions, at the cross-roads of north - south and east-west. The idea of "Italian" will change, with migrants from Africa and west Asia. Italy will persist, it's Europe's oldest civilisation, after Greece, and both will change, though Italy more, as Greece is more defined as a nation.

Uhm what? People here aren't having kids cause of the economy. It's not possible to move out of your parents' home cause they charge you 600-800 euros / month for a ROOM in cities like Milan, Rome, Florence, Bologna (where the jobs are). How can you expect to have intimacy with your partners while living with mom and dad? And migrants face the same problems once they come to Italy - stats show their birth rates plummet, too, once they settle. Moreover, the idea of shipping people into the country instead of making life bearable for us is disgusting, people aren't goods you take from other parts of the world to get a quick fix on structural problems! & newcomers would need better living standards anyway. Maybe we could start with doing something so that young people stop leaving Italy because we're forced to if we want to build careers, yeah?

La Dolce Vita (the economic growth from 60's to the 90's) in Italy is over and italians are seeking its benefits somewhere else. You're probably not thinking about a maid, a bricklayer, a plumber, a janitor, a nurse, cause these sorts of jobs are usually not fit for modern italians. Any south american not too picky can get a job in Italy in less than a month (most of those who migrate can't afford being picky at all). You're also not thinking a lot of people on the globe would be glad simply to buy a car, dress properly and enjoy healthcare instead of drinking the fanciest expresso or spending vacations in Ibiza. We're easy to please and not soft at the same time. Just like the italians who moved here one hundred years ago. Look at the amazing rise of brazilians in Portugal. From 100.000 people 10 years ago to 400.000 now. The minimal wage there is under 800 euro, rent alone consumes 500-600 euro, and people keep going, cause they enjoy good education, security, and can save some money to send home. Japan has over 200.000 brazilians and peruvians working in factories, with labor conditions much worse than in Europe and they still won't come back to South America (those who could, already did it). Italy (even South Italy) is no less than Portugal or Japan when it comes to income and oportunities. Germany, Sweden, Switzerland or Australia being rich doesn't mean Italy, Portugal, Spain or Croatia are poor, the world is way bigger than that.

I'm Italian and I remember very well all the stuff that went down in 2012 - it was not pretty & our GDP still hasn't gone back to its 2007 levels. Italy recorded 576k births in 2008 vs 379k in 2023. In the 2000s births were going up, until the crisis struck. Coincidence?

the two main reasons i see in the europe and united states and most of the countries with low birth rates is cost of living crises which is making raising the children difficult and the lack of life decipline, you see traditionally heathy capable adult people marry and then they have children but currently what happening is the age of women having children is very old then it used to be. it is biologically difficult for females to have children when they are past their prime the reason behind this is partly what i call modern feminism which very diffrent than feminism which it used to be ,currently the women are trying to be like men which is nothing wrong but the feminists need to understand the core diffrences between men and women.

Feminism isn’t the issue. What do you mean “trying to be like men”? Everybody wants success in life? To do something, to achieve big things. Everybody has dreams and hopes. It has nothing to do with you what one does with their life. It’s mostly the younger generation that don’t want to get married. It’s on both girls and guys. Young people just seem to care about status, wealth, fame, social media and followers.

@gravity8014 well what I mean by trying to be like men just means traditionally in the most cases women where responsible for keeping the family intact and men would work so that all the requirements of family would be fulfilled but now that women don't want to do that they used to and try to be as competitive as men are but the problem is the fundamental biological difference between men and women. the women can't marry at old age as men while doing the the jobs to provide for family and expect to have a healthy working family.

Oh my… your ideas about society and the family are outdated. Women as being nothing more than mothers and homemakers was the norm decades ago, but many of us want something more than that. Why so critical of women who want careers? Its not healthy or practical to be financially reliant on your spouse.
