In this episode, I am trying the ultimate king of the off-road motorcycle sports: ENDURO! And well, was that a bit more difficult than I anticipated. The tall, aggressive enduro bike threw me off a few times, so I switched to an electric KTM Freeride. With that lower and easier bike, it was still technical and difficult but a lot more manageable!
For this episode I went to Belgium, and met up with Thierry Klutz, who has been riding enduro for 37 years and competed in all the major world championships. It was amazing to get taught by such a legend in this motorsports!! He also brought Tim Louis with him, a young talent who just switched from motocross to enduro and starts riding enduro championships this year. The two of them really pulled me through this! If you want to know more about Thierry - check out www.fmwb.be/stages-moto-pour-... or www.sport-adeps.be/index.php?i... (both in French!).
This is also the last episode of season 4 (FOR NOW!). The Netherlands has been in a lockdown for a few weeks now, and still is.. So the episodes I still had planned, had to be cancelled unfortunately until further notice. I am going to use this time off RU-vid to further work on my new website, which is going to replace my current blog www.itchyboots.com. I hope it will be ready in February. Then I will also let you know what my travel plans will be, because I WILL resume my journey soon again. Life has to go on. LET'S GO!

I started enduro in England when I was 50 (17 years ago) and steep downhills frightened the life out of me. But my instructor taught me that downhill is better because (one way or another!) you'll always get to the bottom. Steep uphills .... no guarantee you'll get to the top. So .... no fear, back brake and sit as near to the rear mudguard as possible. You were brilliant. My favourite video to date and I have seen them all.

Jack, this is so true. I was so fearful when I started riding trials last year with all things downhill, mostly because I didn't trust the skinny front wheel. Now going downhill is so much easier for me than doing uphills, as you say there is no guarantee of getting up. And my worst crash so far has been a failed uphill.
@chr11sf
@chr11sf 3 года назад
You should be using more bias to the front brake on downhills...perhaps a little rear if necessary but its too easy to lock the rear if using rear brake and slide and that's not good!.....sit back, front brake and use the engine.

Noraly, you are a trooper! When your butt lands on a pointy rock (5:43) I could not help but wince and let a swear word out. And that's just me watching. "Oh, I'm okay" would not be the words out of my mouth if it were my butt hitting the rocks. But they were yours. Your constant smile and quick little giggles are reminders of how to deal with a little pain, adversity, and life in general.

Today is March 31, 2023 and I have just watched this video. You asked for a comment if anyone has ever ridden enduro, Yes. Near where I grew up, Pontiac Michigan, we had an area we called Box Canyon that was near the Clinton river. There was swampy marshy bogs as well as lush wooded areas. AND there was "the hill." It was not straight up, but is was daunting to run up or down it. A light weight bike with long shock travel, the most aggressive tires and a 250 CC 2 cycle engine that was not to "peaky" was the supreme setup for me. I was never pro, I didn't need a Kidney belt, but I did my share of scrambling through mud, swamp, slippery river rocks, woods and clay hill climbing. But as all things seem to do, it ended. In 1973 or so, someone bought the property to build a huge enclosed sports arena on it and we were kicked out. Whenever we came back after the no trespassing signs went up the police showed up to catch us and ticket anybody who endeavored to keep riding on the property. Finally the bulldozers showed up and removed the hill, filled in the swampy stuff and manicured the edge of the river. In 1975 it became the Pontiac Silver Dome sports arena. that "Dome" housed the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Loins. But, as with all things; in 2017 it was demolished to make room for Amazon executive offices and fulfillment centers. ben/ michigan

I had a small Yamaha Enduro, and did my best to keep up with them, but they had way more riding experience then I had. It was very hard riding so I just resolved to stick to road riding. Kudos to you Noraly for giving it a try and sticking it out.

If off-road riding has been stressful every time, I suspect you had a bad set up. It’s easy for that to happen. If the seat is too high, there’s too much power, or you’re on the wrong tires, it can be nerve-racking. If you’re on a good learning bike, with the right tires for the terrain, and it’s not too hard of a trail, it should be really fun! Not stressful. 😃

I live in the U.S. in the N.E. part of the state of Missouri. We have a motocross track about 20 miles west of here. There are several converted mines that are used for enduro, trail riding and 4 wheel drive mudding about 35 miles north of here. The best is across the Mississippi River in Illinois. Just happened on this episode after binging a bunch of Itchy Boots season 5 and 6. I can relate to the difficulty of the concepts of keeping the bike in control in the technical sections. I was invited to run a private enduro course with my bone stock TTR-225 (NOT a great setup for enduro), which I thought after 15 years of trail riding would be a piece of cake. I learned more about this kind of riding in an hour on that course than in all of the other riding experience combined. Most important was low tire pressure, second was setup when approaching an obstacle. I dropped the bike a bunch of times, bent and broke things on the bike but fortunately kept my body parts in tact. I felt that experience as you did it in this video - part of what makes your channel so successful IMO.

As a student I rode trails with friends nearly every weekend for about 4 years. Rode several "enduro" trails, but few places as rocky as some of the sections in this video. Also did one or two fairly deep water crossings. It is hard and a very good workout. Thanks to this video, all those great memories came flooding back. Feeling extremely nostalgic now. Noraly, with this video, I have now watched every episode on your channel. In the past 4 months I think I have watched a Netflix movie 3 times, much preferring to be entertained by you. You are an extremely special person. Thank you so very much for the hours and hours of work you have put in to make it possible for so many to enjoy your epic adventures. Now I have to wait for your notifications to come in as you post your next instalments of your season 5 adventure. Can't wait!!! Stay safe and keep on with your envious life style.

Itchy boots nailed Wallonia. 💪👍. I found you months ago when you picked up your Honda. You came back as a recommendation 4 days before Xmas and I started watching. Then your Xmas video came out with the delivery’s around Utrecht. From that moment I watched every single video so far. Maybe the wrong way round but never mind. Just finished series one tonight. You have given 637k people something. Each person who has subscribed to your channel has related to you in one way or another. You are not just a motorcycle vlogger that is for sure. You have restored my faith in human nature. Thankyou from England for all your hard work. goede gezondheid to you and your family in these hard times. 👌😊

That was like my weekly ride out on the lanes of the UK. I was impressed how you took to the Electric Bike. I do feel the instructor assumed too much of your riding ability in the beginning and took you on to hard technical section without any form of instruction as to how best to approach them.

That was like being thrown in the lake to learn how to swim the first time; not much in the way of instruction, just survival instinct. I thought that big rock had gotten you on the first fall. You did really great, though. Don't worry, we'll still be here waiting for your next adventure when get back !!
