Why don’t publishers put out their work-in-progress games, ridden with bugs and glitches, with a “rebate right”. If they haven’t eliminated, say, [70]% of bugs within [12] months, the early buyers are entitled to a [50]% credit? They get valuable glitch feedback from, what are effectively, cheap / free beta testers. Consumers get to play a game much sooner than otherwise. Potential for consumer fraud (i.e. play entire game, love it, but still request the rebate) can be mitigated by hiring an independent audit firm to verify that [70]% of bugs were removed. It also solves the discounted price problems with marketing and distribution (and consumer perception) of releasing cheaper betas, etc. No publicly listed publisher wants to put all those possible rebates into escrow but, again, it is vastly better than not getting any sale proceeds in the front door. I dunno, seems like a win-win-win.

As long as I can't get hold of a PS5, they can delay everything as far as I'm concerned. With the player base nowhere near what it could be w/o the hardware shortage, I can see devs more prone to give themselves extra time to polish the next gen builds.

I think that the first date announcements are always fake at this point, probably they are made to calm down the investors, something like "We can't say that we are going to lunch in two or three years, but we can say thet we will launch soon, and then delay it, and the investors would have invested so much time and money, that they will have to accept".

This isn't a shock, I fully expected it to be 2022. I do think Sony have been getting more disingenuous on release windows, keeping people hyped as long as possible and then pushing the goal posts back. Just be honest, I respect that more than fudging the lines.

Yeah, way back in mid 2020... that 'God of War is coming in 2021' title card never felt like an honest announcement. I could see Corey Barlog watching the same Sony showcase and spitting out his coffee when seeing that release date at the end.

The thing is Sony didn't even need to do that. They were going to sell every PS5 they made no matter what. But instead they told us all go out and buy a PS5 and you will play God of War and forbidden West in the first year. Turns out we're not getting either one

@@robk5437 Exactly. Those strange, nebulous dates for the next God of War, Gran Turismo, Horizon West, etc. didn't need to allude to 2021 releases to sell the console. The PS5 was gonna sell well regardless but hey, marketing people & advertising wings of a corporation can't help themselves. They rather reap in strong sales first and then make excuses down the line when reality catches up with the advertising campaigns.

@@husker6395 Demon Souls, Returnal & R&C may not be the right taste for some people. But yeah, they count.. they're something new & exclusive to the platform. And while its better than PS4's launch-year lineup, people might have been expecting too much for the PS5 launch year? Tho damn, the amount of Sony trolls i've heard from in the last 2 years about how "you don't buy a console to play old games" or "the other guy has no games" all sounds so hyperbolic & purposely-misleading... especially now.

Sony and other publishers are seeing that the next gen versions of new games are being sold exponentially more than the last gen version. It makes sense to delay these big AAA until the next gen consumer base is bigger

First wanted to say that your footage was blurry, but after closely looking at it, there are some real compression artefacts or bugs on your side.. Look at flat areas on your shirts, there are constantly little corners popping up and disappearing, hope thats not from my browser though

I won’t have a PS5 by the time Horizon comes out anyway so they can delay it as long as they want until then.🤷‍♂️ Forgot it’s coming out on PS4 also, but I still wouldn’t want to use my time on an inferior product when a reason for a lot of people to play Horizon is the outstanding graphical fidelity.

Initially, I felt the PS5 was launched too early because there are no games for it yet. But now, I'm thinking it'll be better in the long run because that will give Sony enough time to grow the user base of the PS5 before these next gen games start launching. The pandemic has caused shortages and slow downs everywhere so more time will give them the chance to build up stock and potentially double the user base by this point next year. And that will make them more likely to make next gen games exclusively next gen without the PS4 versions to bolster sales.

I have been questioning that games like Ratchet and Clank and Demon Souls cant run on PS4. The titan fall2 mission is a perfect example of these instant world changing feats being achieved on a PS4 and DS (with removal of the bells and whistles of course) could probably survive on a PS4. I'm not complaining that they're only PS5 but dishonesty has been a big part of this generation allready, especially after that "We believe in generations" crap and games that were supposedly meant to be only next gen being put on PS4 on the sly.

After playing Demons Souls for a bit this Spring, it most definitely could run on PS4. Yes, the resolution, textures, LOD and particle effects would all need to be scaled down appropriately (as well as the inclusion of loading screens) but its do-able. There's nothing inherent in Demons Souls gameplay-design or world-design that requires next-gen tech.

My ps5 fell in my lap around the holidays last year but it just collects dust. Outside of demon souls, none of the games have impressed me and it looks like nothing is even close to release. Plus, I’m tired of paying 70 for a game that I can’t return if I know in the first hour I don’t like it. I’m sticking with PC

Subscription Service makes sense for Microsoft since Windows is its space, in terms of exclusivity its bad for consoles. I have the PC hooked up to the TV and play with a controller there is 0 reason to pick up Xbox. It's only affordable because they can keep competitive, if Nintendo and PlayStation give up and go Digital you'll be looking at $90-100 a month for all three not including your Netflix and other services all pre order, trade ins, ownership, Second hand sales and return policies will be governed by Corporations and not by Australia Trade.

It's another lesson in hype. Don't believe gamers or marketing. Wait until its out there and has actual feedback. I even got into the "oh shit I gotta buy this PS5", watched the tweets on where to buy, etc. Actually found one and realized theres nothing I want to play on PS5 yet. Let someone else get it. I'll wait until Sony actually has a real reason to buy this console.

ps5 sold 10 millions... yeah... but how many of them were not bought by scalpers? Meaning, how many of those 10 millions got in the hands of the final consumer? Even all this time later, I am not too sure. In my circle I am still not finding people with ps5s and that's freaking strange since due to my job I know a lot of teenagers. They are not buying it, they can't find it at the original price. I don't know, the world is very big but... Ratchet and clank sold 1 million copies... just one million... such an amazing game, the first exclusive that truly exploits the new generation power... one million... where are those other 9 million people?

It sucks that horizon was delayed but its understandable and the fact that the competition launched with nothing and still has nothing with no confirmed release date for halo. Gamepass i can play off my phone, tablet, or pc why would ppl want to get a xbox if you can play anywhere.

I don't really get the people asking for last gen versions. I mean I did just get a ps5 on ebay for 560, but even if I didn't I would have just waited because I don't wanna have an inferior version of a game as a first impression. I even would have waited on Elden Ring if I didn't get one till then. And about the xbox stuff. Game pass isn't as attractive to me cause I wanna own physical copies whenever possible, but given the fact that xbox is actually releasing exclusives this gen I think I'm gonna safe up for a series x sometime next year. Forza looks way more fun than gran tourismo, I don't wanna miss out on the bethesda stuff, and most certainly not on the Kojima game either, Stalker 2 could be really cool and I don't think I can live without Scorn.

Theres a dozen indies on there that I discovered that, in other circumstances, i would have walked right past since its the usual, "they're indie games, prolly not worth the $25-30 price tag and i spend too much on $60 releases as it is." And this benefits other big games as well. Like, was I gonna buy Outriders, MLB the Show, Flight Sim, Psychonauts 2, Age of Empires, Forza or Halo this year? I can 100% tell you they were never in my budget. But now that those games (& others) are on Game Pass... i'll 100% atleast try them out.

CDPR did the exact same thing. Multiple delays for optimization and it was still a mess.

Delays are a good thing. Let everyone take their time and make an excellent product. Hopefully it’s a legit delay and not going to end up like Avengers, Anthem or Cyberpunk.

Even when they said this and GoW would be out this year, I never believed it. Not in a cynical way, just thought it seemed way too early. Elden Ring will keep me busy anyways.

cyberpunk was delayed multiple times. delays don't mean anything for quality, just that the game is coming later than expected.

I wish I bought a Series X and not the PS5. I didn't buy the PS5 because of their exclusives.. Although I absolutely wanted to play the Demons Souls Remake. All of Sony's other titles I could careless.. I keep hearing from developers that Sony is just hard to work with.. They aren't bothering to reach out and secure a multitude of titles I really wanted on the PS5 platform.. I'm watching many good titles being scooped up by both Xbox and Nintendo. Not to mention Sony's software is more difficult to work with.. And then, there's the PSN. 🤦🏼‍♂️
