Lets talk niacinamide and how in 2024 it might just be over for niacinamide serums when it comes to our skincare routines. 35% drop in niacinamide serum sales, what is going on
Hey guys and welcome back to Mad About Skin where in this video we are talking niacinamide and what is going on with niacinamide serums when it comes to our skin care routines.
2024 has been a rough year for niacinamide with sales falling and some brands pulling their niacinamide serums from shelves or reformulating their niacinamide serums, but what's going on.
Niacinamide has been the bestselling skincare ingredient for the past 5 years and the ordinary niacinamide 10 + zinc 1 was at one point the most popular skincare product ever. The ordinary niacinamide has been falling sharply in sales na popularity in the past 12 months so lets talk way that might be.
In this video I want to share with you my updated thoughts on niacinamide, how to use niacinamide and the best niacinamide serums 2024
I would love to know what you think of niacinamide and whether you think it has a future in our skin care routine so let me know in the comments below.
If you enjoyed this style of video when please let me know by giving it a big thumbs up and a like below.

I love Niacinamide BUT I find that the "brightening" claims are vastly overstated, and the pore shrinking and sensitivity are quite understated.

100% agree!! For my aging, oily skin with large pores, niacinamide really helps! My favorite way to use it is in the Farmacy 10% Niacinamide Mask--it's a lovely overnight treatment!

I've been using the Ordinary's Niacinamide serum every single day since it launched, and it has 100% shrunk my pores and also my skin is no longer crazy oily. I also have noticed that my skin does have a radiance to it, which I attribute to the Niacinamide serum. I personally experience zero sensitivity so I'm one of the lucky ones. I also make sure no of my other skincare products contain this ingredient.

❤ The Ordinary’sNiacin serum is a staple for me, i used to suffer with blepharitis and my eyelids were so oily that the oil would run into my eyes and sting them by lunch time - bear in mind I never put moisturiser on my eyelids this was all natural oils. The Ordinary serum on my eyelids was a game changer…I no longer have greasy eyelids or oils stinging my eyes…they stay matte all day. I have had zero irritation on my eyelids but I apply very sparingly. I hope they keep selling it.

Is that when you get those weird wee blisters on the inside of your eyelids? Cos I keep getting them esp when I’ve slept badly
@Denise-ki9ii
@Denise-ki9ii Месяц назад
@@littlemy1773 i didnt have blisters but did get a lot of styes at one point on the lower rim of the eye - looks a bit like a whitehead on the rim of the eye. Blepharitis is often linked to rosacea which I had as well. Might want to check with your doctor if you get blisters a lot round your eyes, there can be lots of causes.
@Denise-ki9ii
@Denise-ki9ii Месяц назад
@@lovejoy7 for me it was definitely the natural oils produced on my eyelids. I tried wipes, make up blotting paper, sprays designed for the eyes….anything I could think of to stop them getting oily but the Ordinary Niacin serum is what stopped oils running into my eyes. I used to wake up in the night with stinging, blurry eyes and have to go wash my face to get rid of the oils. By lunch time at work oils would be doing the same to my eyes…my eyelids were that oily. That serum has saved me so much distress and discomfort. My eyelids stay matte all day. So many products claim to be life changing…this one genuinely was for me.

Do try Nacomi cosmetics Peptides 10% serum. It has Mateixyl 3000 - 4%; Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide - 2% and Matrixyl Morphomics - 3%. It is surprisingly cheap because it is Polish cosmetics and brand without advertisement. In Serbia the price for this one is 10€. I take care about myself, especially because I have Hashimoto's and I am dealing with sustainable development and climate change. My latest article was about influence of climate change on human skin. So I know what bad filler can do. And cosmetics is more expensive every morning.

I love industry trend videos! As you say, I think the problem is that it's in too many products. It's the kind of product that (for me) is great only in moderation. I haven't even tried The Ordinary's 10% serum, but I used Glossier's 5% serum for a few months. It was lovely at the beginning, but I began to notice a bit of irritation over time. I worried about stacking niacinamide in too many products, as it was already in several products other than that!

I love the ingredient analysis and trends that you do. They’re so informative. In addition to high dosing Niacinamide in a brand we didn’t realize how much Niacinamide was being incorporated across many our products. Therefore, we were using way too much niacinamide. So I’m good that a lot of brands have begun taking it out of their products.

❤I comment when you ask for it in the video, so I have not seen the rest yet. I was using the TO niacinamide, but I stopped when I started hearing that it is not formulated at the optimal concentration, and seeing videos where it is pointed out that 2-5% niacinamide, the concentration tested in most studies, is already present in many products, including some I regularly use. A few months later I decided to get back to it to finish the bottle and I remembered why I had continued using it. For me it works very well, especially to give a uniform skin texture with less visible pores. After experimenting a bit I realized that this has to be a staple for me and now I go directly for the large bottle, products that promise much more for a higher price (both from the Ordinary and other brands) have delivered much less! For a serum with 2% concentration I would recommend the Beauty of Joseon alpha arbutin, it has both and it is really nice.

I ❤ Niacinamide. When I had a super simple skincare routine I used TO Niacinamide 10% and it did wonders for my oily skin. However when I began exploring more products it started to cause irritation probably because of overload of Niacinamide in other products. I now get my fix from Numbuzin 5 vitamin conc at 5% in the am and Skin 1004 Brightening ampoule at 4% in the evening. I love your sunscreen and now I know why ❤xx

❤ I use a separate 10% niacinamide serum, but not The Ordinary. For some reason the formulation of that is just too tacky and foamy no matter how I use it, and it makes my skin prickle. Simple’s niacinamide 10%, however? Chef’s kiss for me. It’s 10% niacinamide and 1% panthenol, in a nice milky, emulsion-like texture that genuinely does soften the skin and absorb really well. I use it 15 mins before applying tretinoin, and it’s the only way I can tolerate tret - I now “only” get a mild windburn feel the next day instead of wild peeling and irritation. It’s really worth checking out.

A cautious ❤ from me. Niacinamide seems to be the top ingredient in every skin care product. It's great for my skin if it's in a lower dose in one or two products in my routine, like in MAS antioxidant and suscreen, but too much more than that and my skin goes back to being red and inflamed 😢. I'll watch the video now. 😂

❤ I have to have my niacinamide! And I think the 10% concentration might have more to do with the downward sales of The Ordinary. As Dr. Drey says, they pushed the concentration to the point of irritation and then added zinc to combat that. I use the Kiehl’s 5% and also look for it in some of my other products as well

For me, niacinamide at less than 10% doesn't do anything. But in the Aroma Zone 10% Niacinamide + copper + zinc and the Inkey list 10%, it has really done wonders on my post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, on spots and for reducing oiliness. I will try the Ordinary, the G&G and the L'Oréal 10% ones as well, to see if they are better under make up, because niacinamide peels.

I started with the 10% from The Ordinary though. It irritated my skin and my sunscreen would pill whenever I used it, so I quickly gave up on it. It has its uses and is unnecessary where other ingredients will suffice. Plus recommended dosage is for a reason, so best to stick to 2-5%

I find that higher concentrations of niacinimide dries out my skin, but I use the Isntree C-Niacin ampoule that only has 2 per cent. My skin loves it, plus it has other ingredients. Then at night, I use the Beauty of Joseon ginseng and snail mucin that has 2 per cent as well.

❤️ I love Niacinamide been using it for 3yrs it got rid of my sun spots hyperpigmentation, & 2 spider veins on my face also use it on the back of my hands for sun spots which are gradually disappearing they were particularly deep in colour, used Revolution brand 2-5% but last year they upped it to 10% my skin can take it but I prefer 5% because the science says we don’t need more than that, so might try the Naturium Gel @5%. Thank you Rob for replacing my broken bottle of your peptide serum it came yesterday and my skin feels silky and smooth this morning 🩷

@@veranovikovavalli your welcome check out the Budget Dermatologist here on RU-vid that is how I found out about it just go to her page and then search for the video(s) on it. She explains how Avene used a different process or something with the niacinamide so it would not irate. I cannot remember exactly what she said but she did an explanation on the product which really helped me decide to try it. Warning it is a little on the pricey side ($40) a bottle but you only use one drop for whole face and a bottle last me like a month and a half. Plus at first it will be sticky on your face but give it like 2 mins and the stickiness will be gone. I am now on my third bottle. Hope you like it.

❤ ok ill say I'm not going back to using The Ordinarys 10% as a stand alone product anymore nor will I buy any other brands stand alone Niacinamide I feel like you Rob the lower % is probably much more effective for me and when it is included in several other of my products I don't worry about it much.. but I do believe its good to have it somewhere in your routine be that in a serum (I get mine in my Numbuzin Vitamin Concentrated and funnily enough from my Mad About Skin spf 😊 🎉 ) or moisturiser so I'll give it the ❤

I’m tired of brands taking a viral ingredient and formulating it into everything they make. Hyaluronic acid and niacinamide are the two that immediately come to mind. My skin tends to get overwhelmed when an ingredient features prominently in multiple products. Aloe and cica are in that category for me, along with HA and B3. They go from being helpful to being irritating.

I get my Niacinamide via Paula's Choice Skin Balancing toner, which singlehandedly transformed my skin from combo-oily to normal-dry (yet did nothing for my pores, btw).... and I refuse to use Niacinamide serums, which are gimmicky, overhyped, and unnecessary -- especially The Ordinary's, which is basically unusable.

Ordinary niacinamide left my skin dry and had to stop but beauty of Josen moisturizes my skin but killed my skin barrier when I used it with other serums. It’s a love hate relationship. It helped acne but I have to be careful not to over do it and it was hard to tell if it was working if I used once a week. Too much overthinking just don’t have the time. In the other hand I have finally after 10 years of trying retina I finally worked out how to make it work for me. Once a week sandwiching it with my winter moisturizer. I have to wait for the moisturizer to absorb a bit before retina absorb that then moisturizer on top. Hope this helps someone. Super sensitive skin

I avoided niacinamide for the last 3 years b/c I would get red and tons of tiny bumps every time no matter how low the %. Then I accidentally bought it in the House of PLLA skincare line and if you know that line it’s expensive. But I put it in the closet and kinda called it a loss. The. I tried the Dr. Ceurcle Kombucha toner and my barrier really improved. I tried the products again and my skin had no reaction. I’ve realized I can use niacinamide as long as I use nourishing products and don’t let my skin get too dry.
