Samsung adopting larger outer screen ratio is the best move to make. Love software on Samsung too much to move to any other foldable. Some of the highlights. - Option to have different outer and inner screen configurations - Edge panel - Secure folder - Gallery is too powerful - Studio is unmatched - Reminders - Samsung notes - Spen - Dex - Multi-tasking capabilities - Home up for customization. These are some of the things I love. For people that don't use these features, they think these are gimmicks or bloat. For folks that use, these features are way more productive.

Why do p6 say the OnePlus is shorter like it's really shorter. It's almost identical height as the z fold. I had both side by side.

I love the form factor of the open, but I love the software of the fold.

traded my s23 Ultra on the One Plus Open. I loved it until I didn't. I was watching a video in the kitchen. I closed the phone and walked to my living room. I opened the phone and it had lines all over it. I called One Plus and shipped it in for repairs. They received it 1-19-2024 as of today 2-29-2024 I haven't heard from them. I emailed and chatted and they keep saying someone will get in touch with me. Like I said the phone is great until it isn't. They're warranty and repair is horrible. They're communication for repairs is beyond horrible.

Don't forget one plus has stylus support for BOTH screens

One thing I like on the fold that OnePlus hasnt done on the open and maybe i haven't found the setting yet, but when you have the fold, you can fold the zfold for viewing modes. I can fold it up like chair and watch a video. OnePlus is either front screen viewing or open viewing.

Totally disagree on the software aspect. Samsung definitely takes it in the customizable arena however multitasking is hands down one plus's baby

The Z Fold charges at 25w and comes with just the cable. The Open charges at 67w and also includes the 67w adapter. The Open also includes a case. The Z Fold has 12gb of Ram and 256gb of storage for $1800. The Open has 16gb Ram and 512gb of storage for $1700. Trade in any phone in any condition to OnePlus and the price drops to $1500. The Open destroys the Fold in every way other than wireless charging. It isn't close. This video didn't paint the Open or yourself in a very flattering light, John.

Love that Z Fold5. The S Pen is so great, wireless charging is king and the feel is so much better. And Dex... icing on the cake

Jon, is your Open’s display set to Vivid mode? I compared mine next to my Z Fold 5 and in vivid mode the displays look almost identical. Also, there’s no way the Open really hits 2800 nits… it looks the same as my Fold 5 and 14 Pro Max outdoors in the Florida sun. Very good for sure, but I don’t believe for a second that it’s hitting +1000 nits higher than either phone.

I've just received my OnePlus Open a few days ago and I definitely understand your frustration with the non-separation of the outer screen layout with the inner screen layout. My Wife has the Fold 4 and the multitasking is definitely usable [just like the OnePlus Open] but with being able to separate the layouts and keeping them natively customizable for epic UI experiences, thus, giving Samsung advantage points. Hopefully, we'll see improvements, as-well-as concerns addressed in future Oxygen updates. Other than that, I absolutely LOVE the OnePlus Open. For me, it's a breath of fresh air not being locked under the restraints of size, weight, user-friendliness and the OS itself. I've been using iPhones ever since the first inception of it in 2007'ish and we even have an Apple eco-system. In addition to that, we've established an Android/ Samsung Ecosystem for the past 4 years and getting into a new OS proves that there are actually really good options out there in the Mobile world. One Plus finally nailed the formula for foldables. The "main" display is the outside one, not the inside. I can't wait for Samsung to catch up with the zf6, you know, with the s24 screen outside, flat so I can get an actual tempered glass protector, none of that UV glue BS.

I want an open so bad but its just the whole getting it fixed thing that bothers me. Ive heard one plus is such a hassle to deal with. I'd only get one from a place that offered an insurance like apple where i can just walk into multiple locations and get my phone fixed or replaced. I dont want to deal with the whole sending it off thing. I know best buy has geek squad but i dont know exactly how it works.

He says the inner display of the Open is better but doesn't show how much bigger the black bars are on the phone when consuming media. It has a squarer aspect ratio which means videos you watch either in YT, Netflix or any other service will have huge black bars on top and bottom compared to the Fold 5. How does having bigger black bars when consuming video make the inner display aspect ratio of the Open better? Also why do these revewers keep mentioning the supposed NITS of the Open when it's been proven it's marketing BS. Every tester that actually measureed the actual brightness with measurement tools (hardware not software) like GSM Arena have shown that the inner screen of the Fold 5 is actually brighter when in direct sunlight than the Open. The outer screen is basically a wash in the tests (he did show and mention that but didn't show the inner screen). He also says the hinges are the same and he never mentions that the Open can't open or hold angles like the Fold 5 does. It actually falls down past 45 degrees and can't hold angles like the Fold because of how huge the camera bump is and the actual tension of the hinge spring. He also talks about the not so sure service or supply of the phone in the US which is true. OnePlus doesn't have service centers or a warehouse in the US and repairs or repalcements will be an issue (I spoke to their reps multiple times about this and they coulldn't answer my concerns). Multi taking is also somehting he glazes over. With the Open and their flow system, you can only open a max of 3 windows, you can't even do pop-ups if I wanted a calculator or additional one or 2 when power using the phone. He also doesn't mention that you can't change aspect ratios of the Open when multi tasking. With the Fold 5, I can move my screens from portrait to landscape when I need a better viewing angle or aspect ratio with just a simple tap tap. You can't do it on the Open. EDIT: I had the Open and returned it because of the inner screen aspect ratio and software glitches of the open, pklus the uncertainty of service. So yeah this is first hand experience.

Love my open, couldn't be happier with my decision. When I get the Samsung itch I break out my S23 Ultra

Everything about the Open is better. Usually foldables have better hardware but worse software vs Samsung when it comes to multitasking but oneplus wins in both. It even has pen support for both screens with the Oppo pen. Only lacking wireless charging and an IP rating. Samsung better stop being so lazy with their Fold series

Im on the fold 5 and i love it but based on the leaks for the Fold 6 seems like not much change (including the camera). Ill wait until the one plus open 2 to see if ill switch or not, not having wireless charging and not being water proof is a big no for me

That Big ass Camera Island is like a big Mole on the phone. Just because of that i Switched to the Fold 5.

We are only 1 month away now from the Galaxy showcase, guessing the Fold 6 is going to be at it, from the sounds of the rumors, much of peoples issues with the Fold 5 are going to be addressed and fixed, was going to upgrade in a week, but decided to hold off till after that event, that way I know for sure which phone is best for how I use my phone, which sidenote, is just watching videos on it, not cameras, pens, etc..

I've never had a phone that uses wireless charging cause the gaming phones I've owned for the past 5 years have all used fast charging. This phone with 120hz refresh still checks off the gaming boxes, plus a large screen to game on, watch RU-vid and read definitely checks off most boxes.

What's your scientific measurements to conclude the better display? Anything to back up your claim other than your subjective observation? You're comparing screens with 2 different wallpapers? Have you even tried different color modes? Just to note that OnePlus Open inner display has higher ppi. Anti reflective layer. Less crease. Both displays support stylus. Along with ProXDR mode. What advantage does zfold display have?

I don't see the big deal with the behind the screen fingerprint sensor. I want the least amount of fingerprints on my screen as possible. I prefer the side fingerprint sensor because my thumb can easily rest on it to open the phone. I find it extremely convenient.

OMG, I love that new feature on the One Plus where the round camera display turned into a video display with your video playing in it. I'm purchasing that phone right now that looked awesome 😂😂😂.

Thanks for your awesome review for both devices. However, you forgot to mention a key point here. Samsung Fold has an IP X 8 which us water resistant. Unlike Oneplus which has IP X4 which is non water resistance just splash of water. Kindly mention this point as this is where I believe Samsung Fold is superior than the Oneplus.

I think the Oneplus Open is better for someone who is more ecosystem agnostic if you catch my drift.

It is worth to said that if you buy the one plus open from a 3dr party like best buy, the warranty wont cover anything. So i would defenetly recomend to buy it straight from one plus. That geek squad insurance completely worthless for foldable phones.

So i guess were not gonna mention the 120 fps on the zfold. Samsung is probably manufacturing there oleds anyway idk but i love my zfold. The biggest turn off for me is the design of the cameras on the one+. Its just to big and round but thats my opinion.

This is so sad, in my opinion the Samsung fold 5 is the best. Other foldable phones are good, very fine. But nothing like the Samsung fold and flips. Both in hardware and software, it's on point.

I'm looking for my first foldable phone... I hate the narrow samsung Z5 cover screen... I would buy the OnePlus if it was not for that gigantic cyclops like ugly AF camera... And the hardware on the Pixel is crap. Can't believe there is no decent choice in this category. I think I will just have to wait for any of the options to fix their own issues.

I think one bonus point for Samsung. Their promos are sometimes great. I got fold 5 for close to $1000 and some others got it for less. One plus doesn't offer similar offers

Saying the Z Fold has fast charging and not giving the charging speeds of both phones is criminal. The OnePlus Open is literally better in almost every way.

If you're going to say something like "the ZFold has objectively better displays" then you need to back that up with something objective... The Open's displays are brighter and have a higher pixel density. The peak refresh rate is the same on both phones, but the screens on the Open scale down to lower minimum refresh rates for battery savings. The color accuracy is practically perfect on both phones, and both are using the exact same OLED tech. The Open even comes with an anti-glare inner screen protector which helps a *ton* with outdoor brightness and usability. Objectively, the OnePlus has the better displays. You might subjectively prefer the screens on the fold (likely because of the color settings you have selected in the OS. Oneplus has accurate colors by default, whereas Samsung chooses saturated, vivid color grading as the default setting), but to act like your opinion is an objective fact is pretty arrogant.

😅i got the OnePlus open, it is my first folding phone, i think still too heavy for me, few days ago i got hand on Motorola edge 2022. That one is very lightweight. I will like to see more lightweight phone. Btw OnePlus open still do better weight than iPhone pro max that is 👍

I tried the OnePlus Open but prefer the Z Fold 5. The only thing I really liked better about the Open was the outer screen but that wasn't enough to make up for the lack of wireless charging, lack of DEX and generally worse software experience. Hopefully Samsung will re-think their aspect ratio for the Fold 6.

Software category cant go to Samsung when the most important aspect of a folding phones software is the multitasking. OnePlus multitasking is far better than Samsungs. It isnt close.

I don't like the aspect ratio on the inner screen on the OnePlus Open because it's to square and makes rotating the phone pointless. On the Z Fold5, you can rotate the inner screen and go a little wider on the screen if you want to use it that way. And the outer screen on the Z Fold5 is fine as the main thing with those foldable phones are the inner screen, so having a 'too good' outer screen, just makes people use the outer screen most of the times instead then. So Samsung obviously knows this. Now, the Z Fold6 will most likely get a 21:9 screen on the outside. That's actually the most optimal aspect ratio on the outer screen for a foldable smartphone without making the foldable aspect of it less useful.

This was a fair comparison of both. I personally chose the Fold5 for the Samsung software, ecosystem, and maturity of both hardware and software design. The long-term perceived reliability also matters. Of course I do wish the front screen was wider but you get used to it. The Open is good as a media consumption device, but if you want productivity, the Fold5 beats the Open easily.

Samsung's outter screen is nearly useless. OnePlus' customer service is trash, especially given their questionable screen issues. Pixel fold can be quirky and sometimes unstable. That statement is from my perspective as an owner. The saddest part is that all of these issues are easily remedied if they wanted to fix them.

How did you miss Face ID on the Open? Also, The IR blaster? The snap open hinge? The almost absent crease? Honestly seems like these features not mentioned on purpose. Samsung is tired. The Open is better in a ton of ways. Look at the other reviews.
