Please help me with the boxing of the corners. They never come out Even. I have to keep redoing them, so the bag is not lopsided. What is the trick to doing them right and easy. Thank you.
Margaret Bachmeier OH my goodness I just left a comment with the exact same issues I’m having making this bag. I made one tonight and it’s very uneven. The zipper also doesn’t close right. Please help me too.
@@margaretbachmeier5299 It might be easier to think of the corner like.........when you fold it to the point, right down the middle seam measure 1/2" down and draw you line across. it is the same as the other method, but instead of trying to keep a 1" on each side,. you just measure Down 1/2" and mark across. maybe that will help.
I knew there had to be a better way of boxing those corners. I made a small bag earlier, same design but from another channel. I got totally flustered when she cut the corners *before* stitching. I like this way much better. I think the key is to use thin lining fabric so those corners aren't too bulky.
Too kind of you to share this adorable boxy bag! Perfect teachers gifts. Going to make a bunch for my granddaughters preschool teachers to put a small hand sanitizer and chap stick while watching the kids outside. Thank you!
You are a great instructor ! I’ve made dog waste bag holders in the past and lost my dimensions. I’ve been asked to make more so I was so glad to find your tutorial! I quilt my fabric quickly as you described and make a 1inch buttonhole in the back before construction for the bags to thread through. Thank you so much and I had to sub!!
Thank you Jess for sharing this and how we can use our scraps to make these insanely cute itty bitty boxy bags! Maybe you could do a series of what else you make with your scraps...love how you teach and explain things as your passion is contagious ❤️
The ironing part of your tutorial reminds me of the 'Karate Kid' film, the 'wipe on, wipe off, method. Made me chuckle while watching it 😀 Anywhoose, thanks for sharing.
Tripped across your Boxy Bag tutorial late last year and decided to give it a try. Loved it so much turned it into the project of month for my girlfriends get together crafting day. Then the itty bitty boxy bag tutorial came out and I knew I had to make it for when I travel. Unfortunately all travel came to halt but enjoyed the pattern and added some travel phrases on them with my Cricut Joy and Cricut Easy Press. My friend who is a teacher loved this pattern so much she used them as prizes which she mailed to her math students to encourage them while teaching online. Thank You for your wonderful tutorials and looking forward to trying additional ones.
OH! How did I miss this! My first (and only Disney Cruise so far) was 5 years ago, but I would have totally done something! Now I want to plan another just so I can do something like this. :D
Hi Jess! I made my first itty bitty boxy bag tonight and I just love 'em! I am starting to make holiday gifts and these little beauties will be included in all of my gift giving. Thank you so much for making this tutorial and for making it so EASY to understand! I'll be making basic boxy bags too! :)
Having made a few now, I have developed these preferences: One, I prefer iron-on woven interfacing over the batting, but still use batting sometimes. Two, I cut the batting or interfacing 1/2" shorter than the outer fabric, leaving 1/4" at each zipper end without interfacing, so when I sew the zipper, there is not a double layer of the interfacing. Three, before turning (after stitching both ends) I trim the corners of the lining/interfacing (which I generally don't do) so that when I box the corners there isnt so much bulk in there. Four, instead of the bracelets from Claire's (I already had a stash of these for another purpose) I find I prefer keyring coils. I have two good sources for them and can get them in many colors. These IBBBs have become an actual addition for me! Can't quit making them! Will you be starting a support group?
I love your tutorials! I have made 2 and love them! I do find 5” a tiny bit tight for my credit cars to fit. I’m going to make it 6.5”x5.5”. Thank you for teaching!
These are adorable, but dang I don't think I could handle the tediousness of it. You must have the patience of a saint. Makes me appreciate the Barbie clothes my mum used to make us in the 1960's... LOL
Thanks for sharing this! I am just getting into sewing as a new hobby (my sewing machine is arriving tomorrow!!) and this pattern looks simple enough for a beginner like me! My goal by the end of the year is to make the Swoon Denver mini backpack so I'll be making lots of these as practice... I already know what everyone is getting for Christmas from me! ;)
Hi, just found this tutorial on sunday , and I am now addicted to making them and there is something you need to know....I am not a sewer and have never put a zip in anything before Monday I am now on bag number 10 your tutorial was excellent, they are being used as mask holders, so just wanted to say thankyou 😊
I'm starting a small sewing/knitting/needlecraft class for the local community at Hope St, my local social services joint. Needless to say, there isn't much $$$ for fabric, so this tutorial and many others on your channel are a godsend for me as they don't use much fabric and I can source them from scraps from Hope St's op-shop. Indeed, your tutorials are travelling from your place, to my place, and into the hands of the homeless and disenfranchised at Hope St in Woolloomooloo, Sydney Australia - so, thanks a million, Jess! And please keep the scrappy projects coming! ;-)
Wow Helena, that's absolutely incredible! Thank you so much for the work you're doing for your community. I 100% believe that when we find we can create something with our hands, we value ourselves so much more. I hope your students love making these and take pride in their work. Thank you for sharing this with me!
@@georgiannabarrus9757 Yeah, I'm into sewing clothes and bags, but have never touched a quilt - yet! But I was thinking that a t-shirt quilt could be cool, because we have access to loads of second hand clothes. ;)
Thanks for the video Jess, these are fabulous. I am going to make a version with a hidden condom pocket in the inner lining; and maybe one with an outer back condom pocket pouch. (Or you could put your mini Band-Aids in there.)
I love this itty bitty boxy bag I put a grommet in the other side of the bag and it is perfect for doggy poopoo bags and pull them out the grommet one at a time
cute way to use up small bits in my scrapbag(s) thanks for showing the sew lining to outer.. I saw someone do it many years ago and didn't have any way to see it again. I'll hope to see that again in a big tote, I know it's out here somewhere.
Are you the adult version of Kit in “A League of their own”? Lol. I’d love to hear you say, “I like the high ones”. I loved that movie and I love your videos. You inspire my newbie sewing heart. Love your projects!
Great video!! You are my favorite channel at the moment.. I get up everyday and check to see if you have a new video.. Thank you for all the free patterns that are the BEST!!
If I wanted my exterior fabric to be 6.25 by 4.5... what should the measurement be for the interior fabric? This is a wonderful tutorial!! So well explained and easy to follow! I made one with the measurements you gave and it came out so cute!!! I love it!
The really fun thing is when you see something you've made" in the wild" and the person carrying doesn't know you because it was a show purchase. Secret exhilaration.😆😆😍
THIS IS MY FAVORITE bag to make!!! I’ve literally spend the past few days watching tutorials for zippered bags, trying to find the perfect one. THIS IS, BY FAR, my very favorite. Thank you so much!!
Hi, I don't use Facebook or Twitter etc, I only see you on RU-vid, so could you show me (and anyone else like me) the other tote bags you made, also could you do stuff with fat quarters, some of us are on low incomes and can't afford fabric by the metre, I've watched your video's more than once (all of them) they are great Thankyou
Thank you for the suggestions Elizabeth! Most of the stuff I post on other social media is just about my RU-vid videos. I try to stick to patterns that don't require a lot of fabric, and you can always sew together your scraps to make a larger panel, instead of buying more fabric. I'm glad you enjoy the videos!
Your videos have really helped me fall back in love with sewing again! I’ve seen tons of sewing videos and none have actually made me dust off the sewing machine till I found your channel 😂
When I’m doing my walks, I also always carry my inhaler & my nitrotabs, as well as Kleenex & my phone! Not sure if these are big enough to put your phone in, but it wouldn’t be hard to adjust the dimensions to accommodate one!
I know you have a video for a larger bag for dog walking, but I think this is great for that purpose. My daughter clips a small bag to the leash. I think she will love this for that purpose. Thank you.
Thank you!!!!! I was able to use your instructions to make myself an unusually long key holder that hides the rest of the keys I'm not using at any time. Had to be long for a very long key I have to carry around all the time. Made mine out of Japanese fabric and I love it. What a star you are, lovely easy clear instructions. I am absolutely buzzing with joy!
Love ur free pattern videos makes my life easier. Saving $$ is so good while making beautiful cute things...where do u get ur hardware bulk or as on a need basis?❤❤❤
I finally made a couple today.. Soooooo easy. I love them. Great way to use up scraps. I am going to put mine on lanyards .....from Brisbane Australia. xx
These are adorable ❣️ And the tip on fusible interfacing has helped answer a question about my interfacing for years thank you 🙏 When you were hand sewing there closing I had to lol cause I saw a mouth smiling at me 🤣
I’m so glad I found your channel. Your videos are the best. No needless yakking, just great directions. I also appreciate the timestamps. But I just realized that if you click on the time you can go directly to that portion of the video (I have been sliding across at the bottom of the video). Thanks again!
Timestamps are the best, Connie! I'll be honest, sometimes I do get yakky (which is how the timestamps were born). I'm happy to hear you enjoy the videos!
I made something like this but it had no zipper it was left open and I put pocket tissue packs for mother's day. I like your idea with the zipper. I will make some
Great tutorial! Thank you so much ! I would like to make slightly bigger bags ... roughly 5 x 4 finished size...can you provide the correct dimensions for the outer fabric and lining ? Should I just add about 1.5 inches to your existing dimensions? Thanks !
Oh wow, I have no idea but that is a fantastic question. I know some members of my facebook group sell these. Are you in the group? It would be a great place to ask this! We are OklaRoots Creatives
Fantastic tutorial for a cute and useful pouch. I will make this to attache to the handle of my dog's leash so I always have treats for him. Will be especially useful in summertime when I don't always have a pocket.
Hi, Jessica! I love the itty bitty boxy bag! What a blast and so quick! Thank you for sharing all that you do. I have been in touch with Pilot Pen, the maker of FriXion pens and was given the following information: (I try to let everyone know as a precaution): Dear Paulette, Thank you for your email message regarding our FriXion pens. We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry. Our FriXion products have not been tested for use on fabric and are not marketed by us for that purpose. Therefore, Pilot does not advocate the use of this pen on fabric. Pilot recommends that FriXion pens be used for writing and erasing on paper surfaces only. Pilot cannot guarantee or recommend their use on other materials or for purposes other than which they were originally designed and tested. Thank you again for your email. We appreciate your interest in our products. Sincerely, consumer Advisor ** Pilot Pen was very helpful any time I have conversed with them. I still love their products and buy several by the dozen.** It's one of those "Just saying..." kind of things. Thanks again, pjstitches!
Thank you for this tutorial. You made it so easy for me. I am so grateful for your guidance. I learned the “leader” piece of fabric from you and that little trick is amazing! Wish I knew that earlier in my sewing life. Love my itty bitty and planning on making more.
These would be a great idea for a fundraiser for a high school group, like band, cheerleaders, sports teams, etc. Sew them in the school colors, & maybe even monogram a name/initials or the school name, mascot, etc. You might even be able to find an appliqué of the school mascot (or make one, if your machine does that!), not necessarily the same colors, but close enough. Just the colors would be great. You could sell them at games for a reasonable price and keep the profit! Just a thought. I can see the teens making them their selves & selling them at a game stand.
I have made 5 or 6 of these assembly line style while watching along with you and made matching wristlet straps for them. Your tutorial was so easy to follow! Thank you!! ❤️
A suggestion for your leaders that you use before you sew, instead of just a scrap, how about some piecing from another project so you are making your sewing time productive ,for example , a block from a quilt project.
That could make these a little too firm. They are pretty squishy with the fleece or batting. But that could also be a great thing, to have it extra firm. I say give it a shot and let me know!
I messed up my first one by cutting my lining pattern 3”x5” instead of 3 1/2”x 5”. I also used vinyl and it’s to thick. I sewed the sides of the outer to match the lining and trimmed. I guess it can be used but can’t box the corners😧
Great video, makes me want to try. Can I ask if I wanted to make and sell at a craft fayre for example how much could I charge for them, I'm in the UK, just trying to get a general idea. Also want to say thank you for the idea about sewing a piece of material first then carry on with your project, I've been having problems with exactly that, the machine eating my material x will use this for definate x
Hey there Jess! What a great craft! I love it! Can't wait to make some! Here's my question...is it necessary to match your inside and outside layers for the bags? I can do it IF I choose to but I'm a little rebel when it comes to fabric colors...lols. I may have lots of questions once I'm able to start, so better buckle up buttercup!!! Lol!
Just love these Jess! I'm making them as mask holders in oil cloth, so cute. Also thank you for the fab tip of a leader bit of fabric, my machine is behaving now! No more chewing fabric! Thank you and keep up the fab work xxx from Stockport UK xx
Have you made this in a bigger size and what size would you recommend as easiest. Love this patter as I am looking for a simple boxed pouch with no showing seams. Thank you.
I made this and thought omg this is so stinking adorable!! I then tried the credit card and it wouldn't fit. I'm think what the heck did I do wrong that it won't fit.. I realized I had used a piece of fabric and not the second half of the 5 in lining. How it all came together.. I have no idea lol but its really cute. I made it for my granddaughter to money and her house key in. Love the pattern, love the way you teach. Thank you!
