I think that might be the first time I've ever seen a newsreader maintain full composure when a camera stays on them for an uncomfortably long amount of time. Credit to her, she just sat there pretending to do something on the computer without breaking into a panic.

I think i remember this happened, i think that the editors really forgot to play the exact theme whenever the credits really play out but i think it turned out the length ended up being too long, that was a big mistake over at ITN that day, when the credits were still playing over the ITV News endcap, i wondered "Why is this theme still playing?! aren't they supposed to cut it out?" and when the exact theme tune started playing, i was like "Finally, but they should've done that a bit earlier."

I think they must have been running short. Perhaps they had an issue with a story. The timings for regional news have to be precise as they had to fill the time until the end of the slot. All the other regions would have been working to the same endpoint, with the possible exception of STV.

Looks to me as though they had no idea how long was left on the bulletin. Perhaps a story had fallen over - although I'd expect them to have standbys/spares to go to instead. I think somebody "lost a minute" somewhere - and that minute would have felt like 10!

The music did exactly what it was supposed to do - get them out of trouble. ITV News closing themes run for 1 minute, 90 seconds or 2 minutes. They plan for us to hear approx 10-15 seconds of it - when things are going to plan. At a pre-determined time, the music is started and it's your safety net. It's also how the music finishes naturally, at its end, every time. The director mixed to the end board to get their presenter out of vision (there's only so many clicks to log-off a laptop and once the scripts are shuffled there's bugger-all else they can do in there.) I wrote down below that I suspect somebody lost a minute somewhere. I swear, that minute would have felt like 10.
