The chorus is really good and saved this song I think the first listen it was a little lackluster but gets addicting the more you listen overall a good song and I can’t wait for their next comeback to see how they’re style develops
Think this really depends on your taste, most that like the chorus don't like the verses. But the ones that like the verses don't like the chorus. It's harder to get used to the song for the ones that don't like the chorus. Totally agree though that I am interested in a different song from them.
Charmander I tweeted about this when they debuted but I feel like ITZY is the female GOT7 in the sense that songs will be hit or miss for a lot of people this song’s response reminded me a lot of Hard Carry But a more feminine version. I agree tho
They mentioned it in the reaction, the chorus has more of a mainstream sound (chord structure, instrumentation, etc) so people who like mainstream, familiar sounds would probably like it more. Vs people who like different, unconventional sounds prefer the verses. And ofc the more you listen to it the more you can appreciate both sides :)
@@riyakhasnis6469 He means controversial as in many people's opinions were divided on it, many people didn't like it but many people did and a ton of people also grew to love it
@@lutfiankoafin7637 no...i know what she means. 'Want it' song was so much like old american rock/pop song 😂. At first i thought Want It is another song from america..
I'm glad someone has the same thing where I really like songs that receive mixed reviews. This song reminds me more of an updated version of early Fx than of Blackpink, so I'm glad you mentioned them. I also think that JYP was intending to make a group that would resemble the format of Wonder Girls and Miss A more, since Twice pretty much went in the opposite direction of them lol.
TWICE debut song and vibe was also more like WG (almost all Sixteen contestants did GC dances and RnB tinged singing style). Thanks to TWICE team, Sensing audience and market reaction, TWICE immediately switched gear to take advantage of grils' natural cutesy positive charm with the song Cheer Up. The rest, is history. Jyp always like western style more. He's not into Gee type GG songs or the cutesy GG. TWICE became what it is was the result of quick team reaction and accurate market observation after debut. With ITZY, this switch wont happen. Market eats up the girls' nature coolness from what i observe.
Yay I've been looking forward to what'd you say about the song! Between this reaction and PD from Form of Therapy's reaction to the cinematography, it's a good holistic analysis of this debut :) Appreciate how y'all pick out instrumental bits we probably wouldn't notice (like that cowbell lol). Interesting comment on the space between transitions, I hope they do try to fuse the different sounds in the future, but I overall liked the different styles within the song and am definitely looking forward to what they'll do for their comeback :D
And yah as seen by the top comments right now, this is the type of song people might not like at first or find "weird" because of how it fuses different genres and its unconventional song structure. So it gets a knee-jerk reaction since it's not what people are used to (besides the chorus which Umu pointed out has more of that mainstream sound). But that complexity is what makes it catchy and compels you to go back and listen to it more, and the more you understand and appreciate it :) So people who are saying "it's messy" "this sounds weird" might change their minds after more listens
@@achroos Well, ain't that contradictory, especially since this person at least said they loved it. So, I'm not really understanding your comment, dude xD
So it's none of your business, I was answering Lemuel not you. I'm not native English person, I can understand Sean's meaning and accept it, if Lemuel isn't stupid......then what does he mean "don't understand"? And DON'T TAG PEOPLE IN RANDOM, PLEASE TAKE MY TAG OFF. Oh don't reply me, I won't reply anymore.
achroos Whoa, calm down, dude. I wasn't picking a fight, and I can ask a question if I don't understand something. Now, potentially, Lemuel might've not understood all the musical theory talk. I know I didn't, but I still appreciated the gist. But hey, sorry you thought I was being an ass, it wasn't intentional. Have a good day.
The whiplashing between styles doesn’t bother me much because *cough* ice cream cake *cough* But I do wish that the chorus was different, especially the last chorus could have been different. I’m really curious on what ITZY’s first comeback is gonna look like...
and the moment the 1st comeback don't live up to expectation, I'm afraid of what to become for Itzy, because I don't see much personality in them, except maybe Ryujin
My problem with the song is alog the line of what Sean articulated: ITZY and JYP need to think how they want to do the concept of duality: A startling change like in Choerry's Love Cherry Motion or a tender, slick, EXID-esque switch. The verse is cool but built up to nothing, then comes the everyday Kpop chorus. I'm not at all a pro in music, just trying to sort how I feel about this out.
Taemin is waiting for you ;) ("Want" is so amazing 🎵❤) Actually Dalla Dalla will grow on you, when you listen to it a lot - it's a great song but you need time to appreciate every part.
I saw and heard the song first because it was an ad........ a full mv so i decided not to skip it bUT THEN the song got stuck in my mind lol and now whew i got addicted
I just wish the chorus was more along the lines of the verses. The chorus is so conventional and so classically JYP girl group, it isn't 'different' at all - which is the whole concept and the verses themselves were kinda living up to.
@@MrSiwhat yea, I guess. It's not that I didn't like it - I did - but given that JYP's more recent (not counting Wonder Girls) ggs were Miss A who did the sexy stuff really well and Twice who do the cutesy stuff really well, it created a nice niche for Itzy to do girl crush really well. And they did, but the chorus wouldn't be out of place at all in a Twice song, ya feel?
you guys talking about the totally different styles made me realize thats EXACTLY the point. Itzy is supposed to be a "teen crush" concept which integrates the "girl crush" concept with the cuter/teen stuff. the harder/trap parts are more girl crush and the chorus is more like something a softer/cuter group would do. They go to both extremes in one MV like "look we can do both" and it makes sense as a debut bc it gives you a taste of what they'll be able to encompass in the future.
i cannot be the only person who loved it after the first listen... and i still love it now. lol i'm glad you guys reacted to this because i thought it was a good song for a debut. its cute and catchy and fun!
I love the way they sorta throw the bad girl and cutesy girl concept together tbh. Idk I usally cant get into girl groups but I was kinda shook by this debut lol
SmashThunder i’m sorry honey i’m just saying that their sound IS like that and i’m not saying like it’s a bad thing. It’s a mash up of two very different concepts and they pulled it off
@@nighte11e I didn't mean it as anything bad but not really as a compliment either. Just that a lot of people wont like it which is fine, everyone has different taste. While others will love it for what it is. Personally I'm not a fan of the song BUT I really do look forward to the next release they do because the girls are clearly talented.
HERE IS THE EXPLANATION AND MEANING OF ITZY NAME: Itzy (everything you want is in us) (있지 - means it is, that is why everything you want is in them) Trend (making new trend, new genre) (FUSION GROOVE mixture of EDM, HOUSE and HIP HOP) Zone (distinctive color, character of group that is new) Young (each member having different charms)
My initial feelings about the group is that they have been very dedicated trainees for a long time, they all feel like BoA where their English is all very clean and they’re all great singers and dancers, but the song could show it more.
And also “있지?” (derived from the verb 있다, there is/ it is) is a proper word added to a lot of sentences as in “there is/are …, right?” “You are doing …, right?”. So their name could be used for all kinds of word plays in the future.
hard pill to swallow: you only think a song is bad when you have high expectations for it, dalla dalla is a fresh and fun song to listen to but the more you nitpick the more you find something to not like about it. y’all should react to the other song on their EP, it is also very good.
everyone have their opinions but at the end of the day the chorus will play nonstop in your head lmao. i watched it once and i cant get it out of my head. it's such an earworm
They combined the last chorus with the break on the bridge and it sounds really cool and you missed it! u.u they did exactly what you wanted them to do and you didn't notice
I found the song really jarring. I'm from the UK and the bass sound really reminded me of like cheap songs chavvy guys made in their house in about 2004-2007 like H 'two' O Ft. Platnum What's It Gonna Be. People won't get that vibe or understand what i'm talking about really unless you were a teen in the UK around then. But yea, that's the vibe i get from the beginning. The chorus was good, Ryujin look fantastic here. I watched mix9 and rooted for her all the way through.
Funnily enough the "messiness" or "lack of cohesiveness" is the reason in which I love this song. Itz Different, and I like that... ...sorry I couldn't help it.
It's has a weird mix of genres, (a bit of hip pop, pop and electronic) themes (cute and girl grush) and transitions but if you looked at the end it says itz different, it was meant to be that way - they want it to be different to show that it's okay to be different from others, just be yourself.
I instantly liked this song. I didn't find the transitions jarring or awkward but I can definitely see how one would. Evey section of the song in between the chorus was different but still related enough to each other to sound cohesive (to my ears). All those changes will also keep me interested in the song for the long run. Even songs I enjoy, when too formulaic and one note, will wear on me quickly. Really enjoyed this reaction.
ITZY (있지) in Korean actually has a meaning and isn't just the sound ITZY. The name is a mash up of 있다 and 지 which has the same feeling as "You know?/ Actually."
I don't see why having different styles is a bad thing in music /shrug I think music is one of the forms of entertainment that can withstand style changes to keep the listener interested. For me, I don't like monotone, one style all the time. Mixing it up, having change ups, and so forth brings interest to a song, I feel like it is going somewhere. For some reason a lot of people and reactors frown upon style changes in music, and abrupt shifts, but I embrace the changes! I say bring it on!
No one relises that this song was MADE to be different. Its not ment to sound normal, its ment to go against what music is now. So give them Credit. This Rookie Group is going up.
This song reminded me of Dumb Dumb, i didn't like it at first but since my friends liked it they kept on playing it. Eventually, I started to like it and suddenly i do the dalla dalla move (ryujin part) 😂😂😂
Their group name is ITZY in english, which sounds cool, and in korean it's 있지, a conjugation of the verb to be/have, and, according to some translations, it means that they have it all
JPY names Itzy also for Japanese term, いち because いちにち[一日]- Itchi-Nichi which means all day long , Japanese girl group にち, Nichi, coming up so that's why they named it Itzy I guess like 2PM, 2AM.
This crazy transitions are way too addictive : O its too much for first listen (exo tempo anyone) but after that... jesus please take this out of my head!
Itzy is actually (and i hope im typing this correctly) from the lhrase ,있다 지 meaning "you know?" Which goes with there concept for this song of trying to be ultimately different from other girl groups
Signal & rookies are bops in intersting but this song is just chatchy and fun , is the firtd time a group debut anf nobofy voice stand up for me i like Ji but her stage presence is amazing
Problem for me with this was the vocals, they just sounds very mediocre to me and not something i ended up liking overall. With that in mind was there even a mention of the vocals in this reaction video? ....
even going by the lyrics, its like listening to a teen throwing a tantrum. but you cant hate this song because they keep telling you insisting they are "dalla dalla" means different different. its like a built-in excuse for if it isnt received well lol
RIGHT? I wanted them to talk about it. I felt the song was ok vocally except the chorus and keep on dreaming part. It sounded so nasal? If not strained. Like where is their vocal coach. If those two things weren't there I would completely love this song.
YYEAHHH i prefer the part before chorus at first listen, because that base (/bass?) i diggg. but along the time i listen to this, the chorus just grew in me i guess? i actually highly anticipated this video from you guys, because there were 2 sides when dalla dalla released :')
Brain is interesting. I read the comments regarding this song; Some love it from first listen, some love it from repeat listen (me), some don't (repeat or not). It seems that those with a brain more into structure, order, tradition don't like songs like this that goes into different directions. Brain that enjoys novelty, challenge, puzzle tend to absorb songs with sonic alteration thru out. Many Day6 songs add and subtract wedgets within a single song structure. Since this song gains traction fast, i'd say ppl instinctively double back for a second or more listen because of the quirky arrangement under a steady tempo and varied but hook like bass line. This song's bass line is what lured me back for second and all subsequent listen. I love a varied pulsating bass line. Girls' vocal delivery fits the tone, playfully confident without coy and cutesy. Very impactful debut indeed.
I feel like JYP being JYP struggled going ahead with this song but the new format in the company with the artist development team for ITZY must have really vouched for the song.. In the end it worked out! I honestly didn't like it at first but with more plays I love it!!
This gives me the same feeling as Q&A in terms of chorus blandness and way too much blank space but the video looks sooo expensive. Btw Sean i agree so much with everything you said
So the "있" in "있지" comes from the verb "있다" which means "to exist or to be" (different from the "이다" verb which means "to be" as in something is, like the car is red "차는 빨간색이다" while the aforementioned is "to be" like it's here or it's happening). So if I said "난 여기에 있어요", that means "I am here". The "지" verb ending has some different meanings, but here it's more of an "of course" kind of way or "we both know this already". So "있지" together is kind of like "of course we're here" or "of course we are" or "of course we exist", however you want to take it. Hope that helps.
