When IU started her career she didn't have that airy quality to her music, she decided to do that to make her vocie more recognizable and distinguished and it was a huge hit for her. IU's original voice can be quite strong, but I'd say this technique fits her like a glove and it's particularly loved over there, as you noted. Sadly she had a stuffed nose during this performance, you can actually hear especially when she is singing/talking "shi/si" syllables.
oh that could have added to that nasal sound, which I do not mind, but definitely, it was there. I gotta listen to more of her work (I didnt before, since I wanted an honest first time reaction) and see how the timbre is! :)
I don't think either of them are as popular as IU is. Granted, they are both top tier a-list stars, but neither of them have built up nearly as impressive a resume as IU has. Most notably, her consistency to immediately hit #1 on the music charts with just about every single/title track she releases (which is usually more than a couple per year). And she has been keeping that consistency for over a decade now without fail! Not to mention the amount of brand endorsements she does for a lot of top name brands. She even became the Korean ambassador for Gucci by chance when she was attending a Gucci fashion expo, and naturally, yet unwittingly captivated nearly everyone's attention, including Alessandro Michele (the creative director of Gucci), who was quoted referring to IU as his new muse. And all this isn't even half of her achievements! There's still the nearly 100 awards that she's won, all the records she's broken, etc. And most of all that is mainly related to her career as singer IU, but let's not forget that she is also actress Lee Ji-eun. And her incredible acting ability has unbelievably doubled her already unbeatable popularity in the last few years. So yeah, nothing against Ariana and Taylor, but I doubt they they could ever catch up.

IU is THE most successful artist in Korea. She debuted as a solo artist 13 years ago and it would be difficult to find any singer of her batch that is still popular in this day. She is the nations "Little Sister" and most of the artists look up to her. an amazing artist and an amazing human being.

She has a lot of live performance clips on her channel. Those could be a good place to start or you could work backwards through her discography. You can't enjoy IU without knowing the lyrics since she writes most of her songs, they are so personal and so touching. I would say 30% lyrics and the rest are her voice, MV, her presents, incredibly humble and giving personality, on and on. She is one of the most popular and respected artist in SK.

When she is singing "Through the night" and you said that it comforts you...then that means you receive the right feeling when she wrote the song. She does have insomnia and she envy people who can sleep right away. IU wrote the song for people with the same problem she have so they can sleep and its one of her expression of love wishing others to sleep well. What i do when i feel down or when I'm angry or just simply had i bad day. I just listen to IU's song. And I'm not joking when i say that it will improved my mood. She slay all genre and she have variety of songs in her discography. iu in my opinion is one of those artists that writes really deep and poetic lyrics and is also a great singer/actress herself. If u watch some of her interviews or at concerts she often explains the story behind her songs. Her entire discography ever since she started writing her own music has been remarkable. to see her grow as a singer-songwriter. Her 2017-2020 albums were very heartbreaking and consisted of many ballads because she lost 3 of her dear friends to suicide. Love Poem for example was written for her friend, Sulli after her passing. So basically her music is like paying homage to her own life and story. "23" was also a song that talks about her being 23 and adventuring as a young adult. BIBIBI talks about her haters who always crosses boundaries to harrass her hence why "YELLOW CARD, if u cross this line, BEEP" pretty interesting way of addressing online bullying (she is also known to never back down in suing her online hate commenters 😂) I really admire her way of telling her story because it's very personal and vulnerable at the same time the melody / music production is just so pleasing to the ears. She knows how to captivate any listeners and i think that's why her songs are always a hit in korea. You should react to her DEAR NAME and MY SEA because theyreally showcased her vocal range !
I promise you if you go through her whole discography there is a song for every emotion you might be feeling at any moment. IU is such a versatile and open singer when it comes to conveyance of emotion. She is an absolutely great musician and performer. started of 2012, 3 years after her debut, since then she held a countless concerts and the scale keeps growing bigger and bigger, before the pandemic she consistently held concert tour every year and her latest concert was in 2019. I went to one of her concert and it was really.... really amazing.. her attitude towards the audience, how she interacts with the audience and shares the spotlight with the band and dancers and how with her small body on a huge stage carried the whole more than 3 hours of a show herself (with the band and dancers ofc) so lively, comfortable, energetically, and yes watching and listening her live singing is worth my lifetime, it officially became the best day of my life... many of her concert attendees said "there are many who have never gone to IU's concert but there's none went to her concert only once" that's just how much addictive her live performance is... she is a professional artist and performer. IU has recently worked in movies, commercials, promotional albums, TV shows, and radio programs. She can only sleep more than 2 hours a day. Because she got rhinitis when recording this Dingo Music, her voice was a little hoarse, otherwise she could still sing more perfect. The lyrics in her own album are almost all written by her. Many of them are songs that comfort and encourage people. Through the lyrics, you can feel her kindness and friendliness. She is a cute and humorous little angel.

This recording was made during a huge blitz of activity with album promotion we here she admitted to having a stuffy nose. Most fans wouldn’t notice. I’d recommend “Love Poem Live Clip” and work to find reupload with English subtitles. Emotion is obvious, in song which was dedicated to a friend who committed suicide after the writing.

Nah, I think it was very obvious to fans. It caught me off guard when I first watched this peformance because I know how her voice is supposed to be live. This one felt a bit whiny at times, but it's not really her fault.

I am Brazilian and even here inside the kpop community (which is huge) everyone loves her 💗 she is my favorite singer ever her dramas are great, her songs, everything she is amazing. She doesn't even try be famous outside of korea or tries to market herself to the world and many people from other countries already love her so imagine if she did. Once covid is gone i will go to korea just to watch her concert.

She has this "concept" or you could call her songs her diary. She would sing about her experiences and how it affected her. A song that is a good example of this is actually one of her recent songs called "The sea of a child and I" or "My Sea" for short. It's a very emotional song for me. I don't speak korean nor do I understand it fully, but I felt her heart.

A lot of songs that IU makes are written by her. The reason why so many of her sounds are different (sassy, soothing, romantic, melancholy, confident, etc) are because it really shows the journey she has had as a person (Lee Ji-Eun) and as a celebrity (IU) and how these two sides of her merge constantly. In a lot of her lyrics she approaches the struggles of living the life of a young person trying to figure out who they are versus who society expects them to be; IU was and is still known as the 'little sister' of the Korean entertainment industry, even if she's 27 years old, and has had a great deal of social expectation and pressures placed on her. As with many young idols, the natural stages of life that normal people would go through are denied for people in the limelight in exchange for success. They end up becoming that persona to the general public so they have to continue with the expectations of that persona as well. And since IU has been in the industry since she was a VERY young teenager (13), regardless of whether she wants to or not, IU as a persona is a part of her and, she argues, though not necessarily all of her. Some of her music tackles the issues with media, the industry and social expectations and others are just downright beautiful to listen to.

She conveyed her feeling threw music, such as loss ang grief, and it turns out incredibly, really. Don't hesitate to go check the lyrics, the meaning of the songs, the context, because this women went threw some hard times and lost friends threw tragedies, but she is still standing still... She is really strong ! I also really recommend the song "Heart", it is the comforting song I listen when I need a nice hug ! She has so much to be conceited about, but she is so natural, honest, down-to-earth, warm, considerate... oh, and one thing ... I think you've nailed it, her true ability is her versatility/ways to pick/choose how she want to sing, and NOT her technical/ super vocalization/ power .... IMO IU is more like indie/ people diva than festival/ technical diva... What make her shine through is her way of enunciation, her vocal tone, her ability to convey emotional element, her musicality and lyricism. Her visual/beauty and good attitude/nature help her, too. FYI, in fact there are some clips when she failed to hit some notes in big stages, and she'll stop the band, say sorry to the audience, and sing that part again :')
The way you enjoy and like all of IU's song is proving that her whole discography is actually amazing. No wonder whenever IU's song was released it always chart in 1 place for at least a week. She already been loved by Korean citizen for one decades and even until now.
