IU 'Coin' MV & 'The Winning' Mood Film | Reaction 

This song uses gambling as a metaphor to depict IU's attitude towards music. She puts her entire life into music. I recommend watching both the Blueming MV and the Blueming Live Clip (2019 IU Tour Concert 'Love, poem') simultaneously. You will appreciate how incredible her live singing ability is.

actually there is an old classic gambling movie in korea called Tazza, which they invited the veteran male lead of that movie to be the guest role featuring in this MV.

IU MV's are used to add more depth and meaning to the story she is telling. She will also use the same elements across videos to represent the same thing and/or connect the stories together. In Coin the animal mask were also used in her MV BBIBBI as a metaphor for anonymity of those using social method to be hateful. Her she is using the same mask to portray the critics of her music choices. Someone has already said that the gambling is a metaphor for her music which I agree but I will add it is also a metaphor for the connection between the artist and the music industry. While an artist can take change (gambles) their are limits to what the industry will tolerate. But they need eachother. If the artist gets to big for their pants the industry will knock them down a peg or two. But is it in the industries self interest not to destroy the artist. So the Big guy comes in because IU thinks she can do no wrong. He gives her a reality check, but then flips her a coin so she can get back to the music. IU has several MV's that are multi parts of the same story. He most famous example is You & I released in 2011 and w/o getting into too much detail it involves a time machine which IU takes to the future date of Dec. 31st 2019. And in 2019 she releases her Love Poem album which contains 2 songs Above the Time and Blueming both of which are continuations of You & I. Then in Sept of 2021 she releases a single Strawberry Moon, which many in ludington myself believe is the final chapter of that story. Then there is Through the Night which is the beginning of a relationship. Part 2 is a song IU covered of a famous Korean folk singer called With a Determined Heart to Forget You which is about the ending of the relationship. These MV's are connect through the use of a hair pin that she receives in Through the Night and reappears in the MV for With A Determined Heart, just so everyone knows IU has contacted these two songs. But IU usually leaves it up to her fans to figure this stuff out although she will drop clues. As you have already experienced with Love Wins All, IU videos can be very complex and deep in their story telling. While Love Wins All is actually pretty straight forward, as IU stated on her website that she is telling a story of those who will struggle for love in a world that gets in the way. She also references hate, in general and while Love is invisible (not a physical thing) it may seen ridiculous to think that Love can be used as a weapon, but she says in her experience hatred is always alone and love is always together so there is always a chance that love can win. This MV is not the most complex of her MV's. That title has to go to BBIBBI where literally every prop, color, scene etc has meaning. And next to it EIGHT is the next most complex video. Eight is about her personal struggle in dealing with the suicide deaths of 3 close friends and how her anger and sadness are resolved to allow her to move forward.
