IUD Insertion & IUD Removal (Copper Paragard, Mirena) (Part 2).
Intrauterine devices, or IUDs, are extremely effective, long-acting, reversible forms of birth control. The Paragard IUD uses copper while the Mirena IUD uses the hormone progesterone. They are both inserted in a similar fashion and can be done in the office. This video shows how to insert and remove the Paragard IUD.
Edit: Your provider might measure or "sound" the length of your cervix and uterus first. They will then adjust the little blue marker on the straw to where the opening of your cervix is so they know the appropriate distance to insert.
If you think you'll need additional pain management, speak to your doctor before your visit.

@@devislittlesister3135 no offence to your mum but thats seems ridiculous to force a medical procedure on your child like that, especially one that is known to hurt and there are other options available … I’ve never had the coil so I can’t comment from experience but I believe it varies from person to person but you may be able to get numbing cream but you’d have to discuss that with your provider… why don’t you discuss oral, injectable or patch contraceptives with her? I started oral contraceptives when I was 16 and was responsible enough to take it properly no reason you couldn’t too ! Patch and injection are other methods which you are highly unlikely to forget

@@devislittlesister3135I literally had my done this morning. You can ask for pain relief which is either spray topical or injection. I had a spray. To be honest it didn’t hurt at all, just a bit of uncomfortable pressure. But with that being said I already gave birth before so not much compares to that pain. Right now I’m feeling just strong period cramps. Also, remember no one can force you or coerce you into a medical procedure. It’s abuse.

Can any physician tell me, why don’t they use any anesthesia for this procedure? Not even a little topical lidocaine? I feel like the fear of pain is a deterrent from some women getting this procedure. Performing this procedure with no pain management seems archaic.

@sarahthune1986
@sarahthune1986 7 месяцев назад
What about the part where they manually dilate your cervix - it’s not just magically open like that omg
@drgrahamdersnah
@drgrahamdersnah 4 месяца назад
The cervix is the shape of a tube so it does actually have a natural central opening (called the cervical canal). Most people do not require dilation as the insertion device is thin enough to pass through. If they need dilation it is a single dilator, not multiple.

Got mine done a day ago. Kept reading how painful it was so I planned to have it inserted on my period which makes things easier (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). I’ve been pregnant and pushed a kid out so it really didn’t even hurt. To be fair I was given a pain blocker.. the worst part was having the speculum open my vagina 😐. I consider myself very sensitive to pain but the insertion really wasn’t bad.

I just had my 2nd IUD placed. I had a skyla, then went back on the pill for a few years, and then had to stop the pill due to breast cancet and got the paragard. It was a goddamn nightmare both times, though it was worth it. These model uteruses are trash, I'm sorry. There has to be something that better demonsteates the structures that you're ramming that thing through.

Worst mistake of my life! Terribly painful and I’ve had two kids. They recommended it for my heavy, painful periods. It did nothing for me. Decided to get it removed. Threads were missing. Ultrasound confirmed it and it’s out of place. Heading for an X-ray next. Terrified. Might need surgery they said. Medical professionals downplay the pain. Don’t do it!

For most people it is, people black out from this procedure. People even have a horrible time driving home afterward too, continue to bleed, etc. There's not enough talk on how painful this is, or what can be done about the pain. There's also lack of truthfulness in how bad it is to the point that 'professionals' are dismissive of patients concerns, experiences etc He's completely skipping over a step too, in which they use a device called a tenaculum. It's like forceps but it ends in sharp hooks, this pierces the cervix to hold it in place.

@drgrahamdersnah
@drgrahamdersnah 11 месяцев назад
Your provider may first do an ultrasound to confirm it is still in the uterus or if it fell out entirely (not just the strings). If it is still in place then they can try to grasp the end with forceps. If they cannot then you will likely need to go to the OR and they will look with a camera and remove it.
