I played both the Arcade and DOS versions of Ironman Off Road. The wheels on the arcade had no rotation lock and if you swing the wheel really fast it would go on rotating by itself for some time :)
i remember play a bit of super offroad on pc, but maybe it was emulation. It was not my favorite at the time but I enjoy it. Another good one! Thank you!
Like you, I've also played this one (DOS version) a lot back in the day with friends. The sequel on the SNES seems impressive with those nice mode7 effects, I had no idea it existed. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Off course i play more of this off-road game by Midway,Thunder games like Hydro and Arctic,Baja is tricky,but cool and i looking for buy this game for PS3,BTW,Ivan Stewart was legend off-road driver
The SNES version of Super Off-Road is way too easy. I managed to max out everything by the time the tracks began to rotate and was literally unstoppable, even giving the other cars a lap head start I managed to lap them back before finishing.

E o mais estúpido é que se me perguntassem por jogos de carros da minha infância não me ia lembrar deste não sei porquê sendo que agora adorei relembrar isto e por isso muito obrigado 😁. Esta era uma altura em que a diversão era o mais importante e não todo o resto que agora damos tanto valor . Abraço
I like off road, but most games are quite a bit too arcade for my liking. I played a ton of MS Monster Truck Madness back in the days though. It had semi good feel of mass of the vehicles.
I just love the gameplay simplicity of Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road, specially 2 player vs. Played it a lot back in the day with my friends/neighbours, the ms-dos and also the Amiga versions, both really good arcade fun! Today i still play it on the SNES (I think it is closer to the ms-dos look and feel then the Mega Drive version). And the NES version is also a surprisingly good port for a 8 bit machine, have you tried it?
Impressive graphics on the SNES version, i had no idea mode 7 could do ramps. I've only played the original (on the Specturm), but will look out for the SNES rom.
This isn't Mode 7. Game draws the track in software, probably using horizontal interrupts to do some tricks per scanline for slopes. It's still possible that Mode 7 is used in some way to draw initial flat surface, but since it runs at low framerate software solution probably used, which was easier approach for such graphics with ramps. Hard to say without analyzing code, since such graphics can be achieved using few multiple ways, but it's most likely it's just extensive use of horizontal interrupts to do palette swaps and repeat lines where needed. Such techniques started on 8-bit hardware and on 16 and 32-bit machines they could do texture-like graphics.
What about Gravel? I'm playing it right now, it's from Milestone, the guys who made the Screamer series. It's a little hard at the beginning but once you get the hang of it, it gets quite enjoyable. P.S. In the game you can drive that exact white Toyota with red, yellow and orange stripes present on the Super Off Road game covers.
Most of the c9nversions to the 8bit and 16 machines were very good . Loved the c64 version Not sure if the snes follow up used mode 7 .looks like normal 3d effect to me as not smooth enough for mode 7
Boas amigo, uiii adoro super off road. Joguei a versão se master system, mega drive, nes e claro a versão amiga :) não conhecia essa versão snes.... Off road challenge já joguei mas não me lembro onde :( o 4whell thunder tenho na dreamcast hehhee
