my 9 year old doxie was like this,,,took him to the vet and got pain and anti-inflamatory meds for a month with solid crate rest except to use the bathroom and eat food, they wanted an xray and mri but i chose the meds first with crate rest,,he screamed a lot when he first woke up and tried to move but in less than 2 weeks with meds and rest he is back to his old self again,,,thank god because hes my buddy and i thought he was done for and an mri and surgery is very expensive.
Just got home from the vet and he was given pain meds and ant inflammatories. I'm hoping he makes a quick recovery like your dog! Had me so worried, this really came out of nowhere and he's been waking up from sleep yelping. He yelped a few times at the vet when she was manipulating his head and neck, so hopefully once we get the pain under control he'll be back to his old self.
@@meganwoehl5277 mine is doing great,no problems since i kept him crate ridden and only let him out to use the bathroom, even fed him his dog food in the crate,at the end of week 2 he was back to himself but i still took it easy on him for another week,,lucked out i guess,,i hope you have the same results.
@@mv894 i fought the names of them because it was some time ago but one was an anti inflammatory med and the the other was a pain med, crate ridden for 2 weeks and he was back to normal at the end of 2 weeks
My dog is doing the same he’s 14 he’ll wake up and his yelping in pain front left leg is the problem but after he gets up walks about a bit then he’s fine it’s just when he goes sleep he’ll wake up in pain 😩I love this dog my boy karlo
My Boxer had IVDD. He was getting old and made the painful decision to put him down. I tried giving him the best and most fulfillment life out of him. I sure do miss him and cherished all the time he and I were together.
Thank you for sharing this. My 3 yr old Beagle had a trauma of some kind we don't how, but he started with pain in leg shoulder neck and had muscles spasms alot. The vet gave him Prednisone but it didn't help and after a week the problem was worse and we couldn't get the pain under control. The vet then said it was probably a bulging disk in his neck. He walked like that in the video.
Sorry to hear. Many dogs with neck pain can get better without surgery. Prednisone is one drug, but sometimes medications in addition to prednisone help. Strict CRATE rest for about 4 weeks is also important if it's caused by a slipped disk. If symptoms don't get better or if they get worse (difficulty walking, dragging the limbs, etc), then an MRI and surgery are warranted. Surgery carries about a 95+% success rate. Are you located near a neurologist?
Thank for your response. The diagnosis has not been made yet, but my husband got long haul covid and the symptoms and treatment are intense sharp muscle pain in back of neck shoulders, and back of legs. One of his knees swells if he is not on prednisone. My husband got this about Dec. and then two months later our Beagle had intense pain that when treated with 5 mg. of prednisone, after an hour went away and it was as if nothing had happened! The paid episode usually comes after a long walk but now is only sometimes after a walk. Is is getting longer between episodes but when the pain begins to come on he either has a twitch in his chest area on one side or he just can't get comfortable laying down. When the pain comes OMG! I have never heard him sound like that! Nothing you can do to help him, pain killer and muscles relaxers don't work, but the prednisone take it away in about an hour. He will go off into a quiet area, walking so so slowly with his head down and sit up, not lay down. But after an hour he comes out and is his normal happy self! My husband is still suffering from Long Haulers and is still on Prednisone. Polymyalgia-rheumatica is what my husband was diagnosed with.
@@chele8893 Sounds like you’ve got a lot going on. Your dog likely has a slipped disk and nothing to do with Covid. Hope he gets better. Were you able to meet with a neurologist?
my 7 year old dog also has all the same things as yours. He is on meloxicam and rest. too soon to tell if it's helping but the yelping and whining is really painful to hear and I feel really bad for him. I hope your dog ended up OK.
My French bulldog is having the same problems he’s unable to get up and when we slowly pick him up he’s so stiff, this is our first dog and out first time experiencing this, any tips on what to do or what to feed him because he hasn’t ate or drank anything since yesterday Update: he ended up having a seizure(I think) and passed away an hour after I wrote this Update #2: thank you guys for the sweet comments and I wish your frenchies are doing much better.
I’m so sorry he passed away. My Frenchie is 4 years old and he just started getting this. These episodes have happened 3 mornings now. I’m so scared. Our vet has been closed so Monday I’m getting him seen asap.
My dog is golden retriever she is 8 months old one week before she had a wound in her back leg it seems like a hotspot but now it seems like it cured but after some days she has difficulty in walking and if she sleeps or lay down she take some time to get up her back legs doesn't support for some time and she is shaking her legs up and down but she is eating well while walking she will fall down mostly when she walk on steps...
My dog is currently walking like that second dog. He cried a bit when I touched the side of his stomach near his front leg. Taking him to the vet to see what's going on tomorrow.
@@dublessings mine supposedly had a pinched nerve somewhere n his neck. It's been 2 weeks they've had him. He's just now showing some improvements. Not walking yet tho. Standing kinda. I don't have the multiple thousands for mri and surgery it would take then not to even be a guaranteed fix 😔
Took my dog to the vet bc he doesn't wanna put anything in his mouth. His teeth are a problem, but she said ivdd bc he didn't want her to move his head/neck, but at the same appointment he was twisting and turning his head/ neck to see everything and didn't yelp or act uncomfortable at all while I was holding him. He wanted to play and hump his bear when he got home. (I didn't let him.) Was it just adrenaline? Bc he's not acting hurt anywhere except his mouth. I hate to confine him if she's wrong, but I don't want him to get worse if I'm wrong.
My dog has neck pain, she was in hospital for 3 days and the doctors said, that she is totally okay x) When my mom took her home, she was again screaming and walking like that, shaking, not able to move her head ... We were already in 4 different vets and nothing worked... she got no treatment no pills. Only that she must rest... now she is creaming everytime we want to take her out, or when we want to pet her... Its just getting worse and worse
Many times the pain can come and go like that. It can be dramatic. Where are you located? There may be a neurologist nearby that can prescribe medications. If that doesn’t work, an MRI to find the cause. If it is a slipped disk, there are 95+% chances of fixing with surgery.
Hii my dog has neck pain, he does not able to look up like normal dogs do.he does not able to scream (he's screaming slowly)and he's eating better than yesterday .so, I'm scared please please tell me what did u do please
@@harshithareddy4187 Hi, we talked to a vet again and we agreed that we will wait for a week or two to see if it gets any better. And here I am, it actually worked. Our dog is feeling much better now. But she had to be laying most of time. We didnt took her out or play with her or anything. It seems that laying still helped her neck to heal somehow. It was difficult tho
My dog yelps in pain whenever moving head slightly and always has her head/neck a little twisted. She’s not eating or drinking water as much and is getting so skinny we don’t know what to do for her. Vet is not an option either she’s not getting any better :(
My dog had a sudden onset of the second dog, head held low, walked around struggling, and eventually would collapse, tried to drink lots of water as well. She also had a fly strike. Decided to put her down today and still contemplating if it was the right choice. Saw that at that point just before I put her down I tried to get her to stand up again and she couldn’t on her two back legs but excited to get up on the front 2. They had her on fentanyl, paracetamol and metronidazole and she was still feeling pain (rapid heart rate and I could hear some obstruction in her breathing). Still wondering if it was the right choice considering dogs never actually give up until you put them down or they die naturally. Vets seemed extremely hardened by the suffering they see everyday, only care about welfare and not about fighting chances. Considering my dog was 12+ years old, going through all this ivdd pain + flystrike, I thought that even if she succeeded through say a surgery (definitely not nsaids standalone), she might have to live life with loss of her two back legs, and definitely would need assistance to urinate. Thus my analysis was to eventually put her down. With that being said I’m somewhat still against euthanasia as a permissible possibility unless the dog has a 100% chance of no survival. Dogs literally do not surrender. I saw how bad my dog was the day before and they literally fight till death or you put them down. But again vets aren’t really thinking that. I could tell the vet I had has seen too much traumatic animal stuff. Hopefully I made the right decision. I don’t know
Just got finished walking my French bulldogs and was talking to a friend in his car . He jump up so high and landed wrong now in pain walking I think he hurt his necks from the way he landed smh
@@SEVNeurologyI'm in indiana, the vet said before he has bad hips, gave him some kind of shot and medication.. but he seems to be getting worse.. thank you for replying!
Hi there. This video is showing symptoms of neck pain. There are many different causes of neck pain that can look exactly the same. The treatment depends on the cause.
Ivdd treatment goes 2 ways. Either medicine and bed rest fixes the problem or they get surgery if it's not to far along. Once brain damage occurs or becomes completely paralyzed then it might be to late
