Sometimes I feel like trying to compare a 650 VStrom with other mid-sized adv bikes is almost unfair. The VStrom is so refined and has such a reliable and trouble free reputation, it would take quite a bike to exceed it. I realize it doesn’t have the latest technology and it’s not really that powerful, but at the end of the day when you’re thinking of taking a long trip, you know the VStrom will get you where you want to go. I’ve had my VStrom 1000 for 8 years with zero issues and I’d load it up tomorrow and ride across the US and not give it a second thought. I bought a used 650 VStrom several years ago. It was fine for back roads and without a passenger. I would prefer the 1000 for higher speeds or if carrying a passenger. Someone had mentioned that their parallel twin had a 270 crank so it felt and sounded like a v-twin. The response was that no one wanted to make their v-twin feel like a parallel twin. There’s a reason…

you can rely on the V-strong,knowing that you can go to the end of the world without any mechanical issue is a very high value! this bike is doomday proof,why more gadgets?and more problems? enjoy your bikes anyway!

How about those comming from supersport , HD and huge goldwing-like touring bikes? 😀 900 DSX was perfect during test ride.
