Appreciate your videos, just wanted to give off my perspective as an international IBDP student: I don't see a need to take English at HL. SL & HL share the same class, HL students are just required to write an additional HL essay and read two more literary works. Exams are almost identical (P1 is longer for HL, not necessarily harder) and marked with the same criteria, so choosing HL is really no indication of whether a student can master the language any better than a SL student. Anyone scoring well in English A at SL or HL has the necessary skills for college in the US. Ultimately, whichever level a student chooses to elect is more an indicator of the level of interest in the subject, as HL just requires more time investment.

Thank you for these thoughtful comments. I would add that I also like HL English because I believe a student should do all he or she can to become a stronger writer in advance of drafting college application essays throughout the college application process. As a result, I always recommend the most challenging English curricula to students who can handle it. Otherwise, yes, students can and should choose all of their IBDP courses wisely to make sure they are aligned with their interests, goals, and strengths. Good luck.

7's are rare! 6s are excellent. If students got all 6sand a 7 they would be ivy league worthy. Your idea that a student should have a 41 predicted score is more accurate if you are looking at the top IB schools in Singapore or Hong Kong. Brilliant, hardworking diploma students can have predicted grades in the mid 30s. 5s in HL should earn universal college credit, so telling kids they need 7s is very stressful and unrealistic. But aside from that, thanks for sharing good info.

While I appreciate this video for the knowledge, it would be nice if you could sit a little back rather than starting right into the camera. Thanks

How would colleges view me if I had a ~5.5/7 gpa in grade 9 but a 45 predicted and GPA of 7/7 for grade 11 and first semester of grade 12?
