From my personal experience, the hollow ground has a characteristic ringing sound/feel to it when it cuts through the hair. The kamisori on the other hand almost glides effortlessly and has a much more satisfying feel to it.
Yessir, this is a very smooth and sturdy edge. Not extremely "sharp" or overly rough either. It cut everything effortlessly for a very good shave. I didn't do the 3rd pass ATG, but that 2nd cleanup pass was very easy and sportscar-like.
@@JendeIndustries I went looking for videos because I questions about stroping. Japanese craftsmen don’t strop anything on leather and you showed me the results.
@@skeeterd5150 Interesting point, sir! I personally am of the school of thought that says leather/roo should only be used clean, and to align the blade only. If you need to abrade, then use the stones or nanocloth.
Brought one today from old Japanese knife shop in London and the sales guy said to me"ive never used one, it's like being back in the olden days"...really 👴😂
I've been saying that I am going to quit buying those garbage razors, 5 uses and they meet the trash can... Name brand razors that cut like a serrated steak knife! This looks pretty efforts and I'm absolutely terrified of traditional straight razors! Too long and that grind on a knife is sketchy, can't imagine trying to blindly cut facial hair with one. The Kamisori has been the only one I've ever considered. I have to ask if the abrupt end or the rounded end makes a difference in nicking yourself with it?
@@Aint1S From what I've read online, it seem not to exist any significant differences. Of course the flatest of the two sides lead to a steeper angle so basically leading to a more acute bevel than a western style razor. In my thought the edge that will be put on the blade itself ( diverse stones->diverse finishes) will majorly be responsible for the forgiveness of the razor. Straight razor shaves in general are pleasing so you should try out kamisori wise or western style wise by ordering a shave ready one from a dedicaded member of the community and a good soap.
Thank you Matt! I think it it always easier to lop off a longer beard than to do an every other day shave, but it is messier with all that hair instead of stubble. :D
