Are you referring to the Moriori? If so this is a myth. A revisionist telling of historical events. Maori killed and took Moriori land after Europeans had settled their land. Sort of like Black’s enslaving “Liberian” locals. Moriori are Maori. Though Maori themselves talk about the land being inhabited when they arrived.

J Gray The Moriori story is an obvious retelling of historical events for political gain. But the same is true of these protestors. It probably does seem unusual to hold different ethnicities to the same standards. Is it beyond question in your mind that Maori could employ the same tactics as Europeans when defending their own interests? Have you considered that both groups are humans and can be expected to think and act very similarly?
